Did you get a diagnosis? My TB mare is doing the same thing... last week she crashed on her fetlock and injured it. I heard from my vet that this is a VERY common TB problem... they stop lying down to sleep for some reason. I got a bunch of shavings and made her a soft bed to sleep on and i bought a calming supplement that I give her at night. It has helped a bit... she is lying down to sleep more often, but still not enough....
well not exactly but I think I figured out her problem :] at our old barn she used to lay down in the fields ALL the time. She stopped doing that when we moved (not ideal turnout situations, she wasn't comfortable laying in the field), so she was laying in her stall. But when it came time to get up, one time she slipped in her pee spot and sliced her leg open (took 2 months to get over) and kept cutting her legs up. So she stopped laying down.
The barn owner finally got some lime, which helps CONSIDERABLY with drying the floor of her stall (it's boarded, and was very slippery, even for me to walk on), and the floor stays dry now if the stall cleaners consistently clean the pee spot and lime the boards. I also make sure she gets loads of shavings. I've seen her rolling recently with no problem, and many times now her tail's been full of shavings, so I think she's laying down again :]

We quarter groom taking about a half hour before we ride concentrating on all tack areas. Aftter riding we do a full groom at least another half hour That doesn't include tacking up. Time should be spent cleaning and caring for your horse before and after a ride. So what is like forever for you!!? lol Lucky mares :D
yeah exactly!! see I do my full groom before I ride so it can take anywhere from 15min to an hour or so. Then they usually get all awful and sweaty when I ride so I just rinse them down reallly good afterwards and brush all the itchies off their face lol
Pretty mare! I found the link to this vid on Yahoo question/answer thing but don't have an account so couldn't answer. My friend's horse does this too and it's narcolepsy. I suspect this is what your horse has. They don't do it when ridden as they are alert but it tends to happen when relaxed, so maybe your tacking her up relaxes her so she does it. No cure, you just need to keep an eye on it. Does she do it anywhere else?

But she used to lay down and sleep ALLL the time out in the field, and I haven't seen her do it in quite some time :s Maybe since she isn't getting that Out time, it starts happening to her by accident?

LOL 10 minutes grooming? that's just enough time for me to get through spraying and rubbing her face and saying how cute (or buuutiful for Tilly) she is! LOL
