  • Thank you for the great video. I was wondering if you knew if you make a brush like this by using someone else's picture (ex. the wasp) then make a brush with it (ex. the black silhouette) Would that new brush be your own image that you would own rights to, so you could use it in something you would sell?

  • You are my hero of the day! I have been going crazy trying to figure out how to save my brushes in a format where I could change the color without using the gradient tool, and your tutorial is the ONLY ONE that accurately, and succinctly described the process! Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to help others like me :0]

  • its coming up as like a greyish clear D:

  • its still not changing colors :(

  • Thank you SO much! I was at the verge of heartstroke already because my brushes wouldn't chance color...can you say epic rage D-: Now finally they work. I am SO glad :D

  • Thanks a lot, this was extremely helpful!

  • Wonderful. I use GIMP green pepper to make camouflage and tree foliage. Now how much trouble can I get into? =:O

  • @Rummelhart Thanks for all the lovely comments :) I really appreciate it.

  • @malgalin You're welcome. If you have a moment (in your Copious Spare Time), head over to Rummelhart in Deviantart, and see what I'm trying to turn into vectors. I'm part of the old '80's black-and-white comics thang, & want to learn how to turn my style of fast line art into vectors -- not for the old art, but for new. Beginning to see how....

  • Great tutorial, pretty clear on the details! Made a Gears of War Crimson Omen brush...looks epic (no pun intended).

  • where is the gimp directory on a mac?

  • Do you absolutely have to merge down all visible layers? I'm doing my first attempt at doing a sakura tree today and I had several layers with different leaf patterns set on random.

  • How do you change a brush to go to another side? Most of my brushes cater to the right side (mostly the swirls and flourishes). I want to know if there's a way to make them go to the left side.

  • HOLY FUCK !! SETTLE DOWN YOUR FUCKIN ARROW !! IDIOT !

  • How do you resize the brush?

  • CTRL Z is your friend!

  • i have camstudio aswell lol

  • how do you get that 'refresh brushes' button at the bottom? I really need it!

Also great video! :D this will come in handy!

  • where do you get your pictures from I need a good place to get pictures

  • @htmlforyou deviantart is my fave

  • So there's no way of changing the color of another brush... Say one I've downloaded? Cause this makes things alittle more complicated >.<

  • @SplitSniper7 If you've downloaded somebody's brushes and they haven't made it possible for them to change colour, you can do it by re-making their brush set.

Select each brush, one at a time, click once on to the canvas to get a print of the brush and then make sure you save them the way I do in this video, then they can change colour.

  • @malgalin Grazie signore... That's ganna take forever >_<

  • @SplitSniper7 True dat, broheim...

  • thank u! =]

  • How can i rotate a brush ?

  • This helps so much! Thank you!

    *Liked and Faved!"

  • Thanks So Much ! :D

  • yes!! thnk u!

  • thank you for making this I have been wondering how they make a brush so that it is color changeable !! This is gonna come in handy !! Subbing and thanks again your directions are very easy to follow !! ...Cyn :O)

  • I was just trying to work out why my brushes wouldn't change colour when I found this. Fantastic - Thank you very much!

  • note: when you use the new brush and open a new file, be sure to set the mode (under image) back to RGB, otherwise it will remain as grayscale and you won't be able to use the brush in color.

  • HI, I just wanted to say that I've watched alot of your GIMP tutorials, some of the most helpful tutorials for any program I've ever used one for, keep up the good work :D This vector art series is particularly good.

  • You really know your stuff man Thank you. Really productive there.

  • thank u for the tutorial

but i've a question.. which version of gimp are you using?

cause, i've got gimp 2.6.6, but i can't find any of those brushes anywhere..

  • Thank you, and thanks for all the other vector tutorials.

  • Whoa. thank you so much!

  • Okay. So two questions. (That is if you still check this.)

One, how on earth, as show in 1:23-ish when you were putting on that skater brush, did you make the brush bigger and smaller. You sort of zoomed it in or something without going back to the brushes dialog.

And two, how to we make brushes that have closed off white spaces (such as the knee part on the skater) when the fuzzy select tool doesn't get it all because it is closed off.

  • hold down [ for smaller and ] for bigger

  • the [ and ] keys will scale a gimp brush.

  • cheers, thanks so much, you;ve made my gimp life much easyer!

  • AWESOME!

  • I really admire this series. In fact, I am trying to persuade my team to use this model for some of our software training at work. Do you find the Camstasia screen capture satisfactory? Is there another you would recommend that might cost a little more?

  • Just finished the entire series. Very good. This helped me loads. I had no idea what the path tool was before starting this.

    Regards,

    Luke

  • wow, you made my life with Gimp so much easier

  • cool series .. your got things down now and simple for simpletons like me.. gracais ! ;o)

  • its just ctrl+i i had the same problem

  • fanks for the video babes

    ily

  • love the vids. very helpful

  • cool new videos?

  • Not working. I only have a piece of the picture I saved. And it only does black still. Followed you step by step. :(

  • NM, I found it. I tried again and saved it as somthing else in that section where you type 100. And it worked that way. thanks.

  • Thanks for this. I've been wondering how to do this for a long time.

  • Just save the brush as .gbr

    Duh.

  • I have a question...

Can you have the face of the brush be a color, and then when you click and drag the brush, can the "shadow" (the stroke that it leaves behind) be a different color, like black?

I think that is clear isnt it? haha

  • Im new to gimp so repetitive is good, thanks for the tut. when is the babyclops tutorial coming?

  • How to do change the angle of your brushes or manipulate them? for instance i have some eye lash brushes but i don't know how to manipulate there shape or angel to fit different angled face shots?

  • you post it on top of the picture, on a new layer that is.

from that your gonna use the box selection tool and select the lashes then copy paste it.

after u past it just postion it where u would like. use the rotate tool to move the layer

once u got it all done click on a new layer on the layer box (ctrl+l)

thats the way i know simple but works, hope that helps

  • Ctrl+Shift+I doesn't work!!!!

Thanks for the tutorial and please keep them coming.

  • really helpful tutorial! thanks a lot!

  • how do you resize the brushes so quickly? is that a shortcut you made or something??

  • lol im a fan of allur tutorials man they have helped me out allot and there the only ones i can stay awake during cuz of ur voice =) i love it man

  • Anyone know where to find the "brushes" folder on a mac?

  • assuming they use the file extension .gbr do a search of you harddrive for *.grb (i assume that will work on a Mac? Or at least there must be an equivalent search function like that, surely?)

  • Turns out you must choose an alternate destination in preferences and put the brushes in that....

  • Or you go

    applications/gimp/contents/resources/share/gimp/2.0/

    brushes

for those who don't know to get into the gimp files you ctrl click the app file and and click on show package contents.

    And I'm loving the vids!!

  • Have you seen my intelligent scissors tutorial? Is that what you mean?

  • I did try this but it does not really work well enough to look really GOOD! Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry to be awkward! :P!

    All the best,

    Jack

  • Use a variety of methods.

For example, the intel scissors and the paths tool, then clean it up with the eraser.

It'll come with practice, you just need to develop the skill.

Good luck with it, and thanks for the positive comments. They're appreciated!

  • That sounds really good! I hope to see more tutorials and I am so glade that you have been uploading so many tutorials lately, and kept me busy during this summer holiday!
