  • Lyle you and Steve Fromholtz is right, it just don't get no better than a bear- spoken as a bear or as my Chinese significant everything says, Da Shong- my Mandarin name that means big bear.

  • Thats music!

  • Just a total package.....great lyrics, great band, and lyle has just has an amazing voice. I dont care if he has 1 view....i saw it.

  • Hey, who's that guy singing for Sam Bush?

  • Have a break ...

  • Also I think Lyle Lovett should be declared a National Treasure.

  • My names is Bear and I approved this song and endorse Lyle Lovett.

  • take that bear out to lunch...even if your freinds stop and stare.

i live my life by that.

  • dont forget Stevie Fromholz - the writer and singer of this original great

  • I love how the look on the bands face says, "Yeah, we're the shit".

Even an unorthodox topic like this is turned into a winner.

    Cheers Lyle!

  • Penguins, bears, I'm seeing a pattern here. I think he just likes to sing about random animals. lol

  • As per my name, I am a bear. And I appreciate this song.

Let me know if you want to take me to lunch. :-)

  • What inspired this song? I'm married to a Bear... and they just don't come no better.

  • I'm married to a Bear.

  • Great, great, great song. Thank you for writing such diamonds.

  • @BelAirMadeOfWood....actually he did not write this diamond. It was written by Steven Fromholst.

  • I wish there was a copy of the Fromholz version where he tells the story of his Aunt Minnie. Aunt Minnie was a school teacher in arkansas and married a bear. Funny story to hear Steve tell it. It's on the Fromholz Live album I think.

  • I love this song for all its interpretations and meanings. Every last one of them is good and right.

  • @boneration people who kill any animal are insane.. i say give the bears a gun tooo!!!!

  • You know he's singing about fat, hairy, gay guys right?

  • @tabber87 - if only. :) But, on the bear hunter tip, as I always say to people who assert that hunting is a sport: 'In a sport, both sides have the same equipment. When the animals have guns, THEN it's a sport.'

  • @Timmybear what if bear hunters only used knives? i think thatd be pretty fair. And an awesome fight.

  • @joelibm - nope. Teeth and nails only. ;)

  • @Timmybear Amen-a sport involves two willing participants. Love this song by the way!!! Check out Donuts for Boo Boo N.J. here on you tube.

  • @VidRanger973 - I can't imagine willing participation in ANY sport, but to each his own. ;) I will check out Donuts for Boo Boo N.J.

  • Makes me want to go bear hunting......

  • This song makes me happy! Thank you for posting this!

  • Tell me thats a Collings he's playing! He has a Collings sunburst...I can tell by the tone its gotta be! Is it a D2 or something??

  • Being a Bearfoot myself I have a special affinity for this song.

  • Lyle makes me proud to be a Texan

  • It just don't come no better than this!

  • I think this song, and its delivery, is some of the finest understated master musicianship available anywhere.

  • This is a Steve Fromholz song,LL is a hugr Fromholz fan.

  • This is a Steve Fromholz song,LL does several of his songs.

  • This is a Steve Fromholz song,LL does several of his songs.

  • This is a Steve Fromholz song,LL does several of his.

  • Ah Lyle,

Do you have an affinity for bears or is this word code for something else entirely? I know some bears that would love to meet you and play!

  • ... very happy to find this vídeo. I was lucky enough to see LL for the first time live last year in Berlin - and the set included "Bears". LL introduced the song kindly referring to Berlin´s heraldic animal which is ... a bear.

  • The part of the song where the steel guitar and the mandolin debut is pure heaven. Amen.

  • I like this song mainly because bears are sweet.

  • I love Lyle! and I love this song. Makes me smile every time I hear it! :)))

  • awsome...

  • I just love Lyle Lovett. He has so much style. He is a true musical gentleman.

  • Is there anyone with hipper taste in backup musicians? Viktor Krauss is just killing it on the bass-not to mention the rest of those geniuses...Damn.

  • What about Sam Bush. I wish he was with him all the time. I saw him with Lyle once and solo many times. Not much better.

  • @fridaymiles Lyle Lovett knows good music and good musicians. He'd be a joy to work with, because he appreciates them so much. That's why he gets such great muscians to work with him.

  • Oh man. That was good. You're right Mouldytone - a terrific song and well covered.

  • lyle and his contemporaries are what keeps good music alive. i like the writings of james mcmurtry also

  • If you love this song, and who wouldn't, take the time to find it sung by the author, Steven Fromholz. You won't regret it.

  • It just don't come no better than a Bear!

    ...or Lyle!

When people complain there's no good music today they're only partially right. You won't find it on popular radio. MTV has done its best to destroy the soul of original music. But artists from old Lyle to Shelby Lynn, Radiohead, Incognito, Larry Carlton, Jeff Lorber, Craig Chaquico, Eric Johnson, Nora Jones, Stereophonics & many others are out there waiting to be discovered just off the beaten path!

  • and tom waits! whee!

  • @redfishradical Hear, Hear!!!

  • @redfishradical Excuse me, did you say Radiohead? Please.

  • Sam Bush is a beast!

  • Sam Bush in a suit! This CD is arguably the finest collection of songs I have ever heard. The Ballad of the Snow Leopard and the Tanguerey Cowboy is gorgeous!

  • I love the song. It makes it even better that Sam Bush is in the band. Great.

  • hahahahhaha. this song is played at job all the time. its so fucking funny and ridiculous.

    oooh bears!

  • I played harmonica for a guy called Country Don Etheridge, the opening act for Steven Fromholz who wrote this song. Steven said that Lyle Lovett was including it in his next CD . He then said that everyone that has ever met lyle just can't help but love him. When the CD came out I bought it. Great stuff is on it and it goes where ever I go.

  • A straight to the heart song,Lyle does it everytime.....!!!

  • Thanks for posting this and the others from this show. These truly are beautiful performances of beautiful songs.

  • This song is, well, special, not for what you think. I knew a "Bear" his name was Bear. We lived together for 7 years. We walked together everyday. We hung out. He was someone I loved. He was our dog. Bear. A Akika shepard mix. Very Beautiful and loyal Bear. Our Bear. I miss you.

  • I had never heard this song until it was played a friend of mine's funeral. His nick name as "Bear" and the whole front of the funeral home was lined with teddy bears of every conceivable size, shape and color. This year, we will be playing this song again at the golf tournament held in his honor "The Barry Reed Memorial" in Eagle, Idaho! Here's to you my friend!

  • What a gentleman!!!

  • Lyle Lovett is best. I agree with To3by - Step Inside this House is No. 1 and this is No. 2 on a great album. It drives me nuts that some think this is a nonsense song. The bear is a metaphor. The lyrics say you shouldn't jump to conclusions and judge someone by other peoples' impressions; you should use your own judgement. And "even though your friends may stop and stare," it shouldn't matter. "That's a bear there," and if the bear's your friend, you'll stand by him no matter what.

  • I love this too!..Except he probably isn't a son of a bitch. I bet his mom is pretty cool Katerey523

  • Sweet tune! Lyle's one talented son of a bitch! Thanks for posting this.

  • Outstanding !

  • WOW! That's Sam Bush on mandolin!!!!!

  • Great song! My 2nd fav on Step Inside This House....my fav is the title track....thanks for posting!

  • Excellent performance. Hard to believe it's almost 10 years old..

  • God I love this song. Always makes me feel so happy to sing along with Lyle when I see him in concert. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • me too. possibly my favorite from the album.

  • love it.
