@Tyehao because it is disrespectful to you ( although you will never know why ) and also to the mountain and every other person who hikes and climbs in the Wasatch.I understand your need to do something like climb Olympus but... you failed and it was not the fact you forgot your light. Search and Rescue is a very hazarous job, you should be ashamed of yourself. This video not only glamorizes your idiocy but it also trivializes the accompishments of others. This video is not helping anyone.
@umbuna69 I think you're reading too much into this. I've climbed Mt Olympus at least 7 times before. My point of this video is to prove that anybody can get lost and you should be prepared each and every time. Comments like JrSAR101 back me up. If somebody gets into a car accident should their drivers license be taken away forever?
I'm on a search and rescue team myself... i'd rather go out at 4am and guide someone off a mountain, then pick up the pieces the next day. so you did the right thing.
Hey moron....How much did your stupidity and weakness cost the taxpayers? If you can't get off Mt. Olympus with the city lights of over one million people below, maybe you should be removed from the gene pool. Are you mentally retarded?
I would have laughed at Tyehao had I not just recently made the same climb. I have hiked many other peaks, including Lone Peak, but his was one of the harder climbs I have done. I got lost for about 20 minutes in broad daylight trying to get back down from the summit to the saddle. It all looks the same up there, and it is easy to end up in the wrong shoot or ridge.
Yeah, like I said, hindsight I probably would have survived but my legs were cramping bad and I've never been in that situation before.
I felt stupid to be rescued but like the search and rescue people said, "it's better to know your abilities and not press your luck, especially in Heughs Canyon."

So you decided to hike a steep mountain with no flashlight.
The full moon wasn't enough to get you down?
The three foot wide trail wasn't enough to get you down?
Bivying in 55 degrees was too unbearable?
And you got off trail at the saddle of all places?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Wow. Well, at least you are man enough to admit it and smart enough not to do something drastically stupid.
Glad you are ok.
