  • I want to see a recreation oriented diesel sled. this is like a diesel converted datsun that gets 50 mpg but tops out at 55 on flat ground. Now lets go the other direction, a turbo cummins with the injector pump turned up, and 40 pounds of boost. just for fun. Its kinda fun to roll thick black clouds of smoke sometimes.

  • holy crap! my push mower goes faster than that................gay ,...if you burn fuel hot enough it is relatively clean no matter what, also quite a contraversal subject i guess as everyone has an opinion as they should; but keep the namecalling out of it please

  • Nothing compared to this beast watch?v=oiyFf26woLk

  • That thing is slow as shit. I don't care if it is good for the environment.

  • And the first half of the video is my wasted time.

  • Diesel is better for enviroment than gas.

  • you are a tard it injects fuel after the turbo and before the dpf to raise the egt's to allow the dpf to be cleaned but it is a bull shit system and has to repaired all the time I am a diesel mechanic and we are always busy with issues because of this the government should have just stayed out of it

  • Amen!!!

  • gas is more of a solvent. diesel is a petroleum

  • icic thxs for the correction

  • lol my gosh! slow whats the point of putting that effort into it to make it go like 10mph max exell?

  • Its good for the enviroment. If it takes you longer to go a mile, you are having fun for a longer duration. Hence more fun with less miles traveled.

  • wow that thing sucks

  • I was always under the impresion that diesel was a "dirty fuel" compared to gasoline or alcohol...what's the point here?

  • Diesel engines are more efficient than gasoline engines and with current fuel and emissions technology is as clean or cleaner than gasoline.

  • thats not true the only way you will get any diesel engine to be cleaner than a gasoline engine is if you have a diesel particulate filter and thats when this filter collects all the "bad" particles from the exhaust and injects diesel into the filter and burns it up some how i dont know how it would be but the state of california proves it

  • @89Daytona89 diesel fuel has more energy per liter or gallon then gasoline, however it has a slow burn rate which is why diesel engines don't usually rev over 3000 rpm

diesel is a "dirty fuel" because it is less refined then regular gasoline and emits particulates (the Black smoke diesel fans love) out of the engine under load,--- however new emissions systems burn the particulate in the catalytic converters and in the exhaust system and eliminates the harmful effects

  • @JohnnyTaco01 diesel exhaust is just carbon or soot, so it is more dirt than pollution, i think its stupid to put a diesel engine in a snowmobile, diesel gels in cold weather and is harder to start in the cold.

  • snobell! Your a dumbshit! ALL diesels DO NOT have a turbo! Now, they should, diesels require ALOT of air, and naturally aspirated, they cannot get enough to build sufficient power for most applications, BUT, they ALL DO NOT HAVE TURBOS! I agree, it ws the point that the guy made a diesel sled move and function!

  • that was slow!!!!

  • are you kiddin me? that was the worst acceleration ive ever seen! me sitting on a wagon with a 1 hp engine would go faster!

  • Snowbell37:

not all diesels have a turbo you dumb shit.

  • pretty much the point is that he got a diesel snowmobile to go

  • im sure it works great in minus 30 c temp, what do you do about diesel fuel gelling.

  • Man that thing is balls slow, But cool project none the less. Are the gears and clutch stock from a gas sled or what?

  • The gears were stock, the clutching was set up a little differntly but the clutching parts weren't custom made.

  • whats the point of a diesel sled? its gonna be all tork and no speed.

  • Thats like asking whats the point in a diesel truck, they aren't all torque and no speed. The speed is only a factor of the sled being geared and clutched correctly for the desired top speed. The main advantage of diesel is superior fuel economy and exhaust emissions.

  • I agree.

  • that's true

but when the clutch is engage, a Sled always between 5-9000 rpm

so a diesel sled is not usefull

  • a diesel would be useful you just have to have it clutched to engage way lower

  • myself loving diesels and sleds must say its pretty mint but, will never work because a diesel has trque and a gas has hp and diesels are way to heavey and don't favoure the cold... so i dond't think a diesel will ever work very good in a sled also because they don't rev very high

  • Yeah thats a good point, in normal sled setup. If you had a direct drive snowmobile with like an old atv gearbox with gears it would be great, except for the whole fuel gelling thing. But the torque wouldnt really be useful I supose unless on a packed groomed trail...

  • if you geared it higher then it would be like having a high revving motor like a gasoline engine that is geared lower

  • you said mint....sound like a iron ranger

  • yeah and you can just use a high gear ratio which will make it go fast and accelerate fast too.
