You didn't mention board shorts though. I live in a tropical country so it's summer wear all year round. Lately, many have been wearing board shorts (both patterned and solid) to places other than the beach and matching them with t-shirts, shirts, etc. What's your opinion on them?

I can't believe you actually went to the jean shorts. Probably the most horrible shorts someone could have and you are suggesting them for fashion advice. Also I can't imagine anyone actually being serious about a compliment for frayed cutoff shorts. As someone else mentioned it is very redneck. Yes hemmed jean shorts are bad, they are dorky, but a rough cut and frayed jean short is not a unique cool direction just because it is technically more casual, it just goes redneck.

@Chipwhitley274 I strongly disagree with you. At my university, I've seen so many guys wear jean shorts. The style, however, has definitely changed. The jean shorts that I've seen a lot of guys wear are the ones similar to the one Jacob wears in the movie New Moon. They don't look bad because they essentially hug the thigh so it looks pretty form fitting in my opinion.

Many guys don't have fashion sense. For the same reason there are hundreds of Youtube channels dedicated to fashion advice for women, and only a few for men. Shorts that hug the thigh (like Jacob from New Moon) does not help your case. If cut above the knee, that just switches from redneck to Village People, Gay Construction worker (and still, some rednecks). In all seriousness the longer form fitting shorts are like a man's attempt at Capris.

@orangeapricotyum To be honest, the "whites after Labor Day" rule only applied to shoes and was most popular in the '50s and '60s, which many do not know. The only logical purpose was to keep summer dress shoes and pumps in the summer months. Wearing white post-Labor Day is widely popular these days and is an up and coming trend in a lot of fashion. Especially with "color blocking" being a huge statement over the past year.

I think shorts length should be just above the knee, on the knee or slightly below the knee; depending on height and leg length. Surprisingly, the booty shorts are in this season; they are everywhere and I think they could be paired up with gorgeous gladiator sandals and maybe a hot polo!...I agree with you Aaron, J Crew has awesome shorts! :-D

To be honest, just my personal opinion. Cargo shorts are very ugly. I just don't find them flattering on anyone. I really dont like all those pockets! So chunky. A smooth, form fitting shorts without any of those chunky pockets is much more flattering.

@35thave A fitted leather flip flop that stops just past the upward curve of your heel(no socks), Sperry TopSiders(no socks), brushed leather oxford in light tan(socks optional), tennis shoes(ankle socks), slide-ons(no socks). The dressier the occasion, the more professional the shoe. Denim and cotton pants in the summer are PERFECTLY fine as long as you can take the heat without complaint. Some companies are switching to lightweight denims and cottons for summer now as well.
