Big fan of L&H. I was thinking, wouldn't it be great if you were around in those times and working on the Hal Roach lot. You would walk on the set, pick out a quiet corner, pull up an old wood folding chair (Hal Roach Studios labeled on the back) and sit and watch this masterpiece being performed. Nuff said!
Allways been a fan of Stan and Ollie. No one will ever come close to these two gentlemen.70 or so years, and they still make people laugh out loud. That is the messure of their immence talent.Whenever i see them on screen, they make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. For not only are they admired for their work, but i belive, they are also genuinely loved by their millions of fans around the world.LONG LIVE THE KINGS OF COMEDY,LONG LIVE LAUREL AND HARDY.GOD BLESS YOU GENTLEMEN.

i'm 17 and was brought up to watch this with my grandparents. Greatest comedians of all time. It's a shame that the younger generation doesn't seem to appreciate the truly greats of comedy.
@GoldenEagle009 I am delighted to see your comments and it is wonderful to find somebody of your age who is a fan of Laurel and Hardy. Do you know that, when they were more or less finished in the movies, Bernard Delfont, in the 1950's, invited them to come to Great Britain and do a tour of the Moss Empires variety theaters. They actually came twice and, on one visit, although they were ageing and Ollie had developed a taste for the booze, they appeared in the Royal Variety Show.
@GoldenEagle009 You might like to know that there is an excellent book, by AJ Marriot, that chronicles both tours, of the UK, made by Stan and Ollie, when they came to play the Moss Empires circuit in the 1950's (you young people will not know what the old variety theaters were all about) Anyway, there you have it for what it is worth. I am 70 years of age and a total dedicated fan of these two wonderful loving guys,I saw them live, at the Brighton Hippodrome, somewhere around 1954.
No argument, this is comedy perfection. I'm not going to bother writing an essay about whether this is better than modern comedy or not, it is what it is, and what it is are two comedy geniuses in ther finest work. End of.
I am 40 years old and found my love for this awesome comedy team back in the 70's when I'd watch Laurel And Hardy shorts my local TV station would show every so often on Saturday or Sunday mornings. In my opinion, while the other teams like the Stooges and Abbott And Costello are great, Stan and Ollie were and will always be the best. Stan is one of the few people that can get a laugh when people just look at his picture. I bought the complete collection DVD set that just came out, it's great.
Way out west is the first one i ever watched of laurel and hardy.. and my dad says his going to buy me the whol boxset (Thank god) but i always like to come back to this dance. funnies thing ive seen ever, dont you think at 1:45 .. that soulja boy took it from these guys?
funniest duo ever to grace our screens, i just play a dvd when i need a laugh and god do they make me laugh, how anyone can say they are not, well they must be the most miserable eleven people on earth and probably single and never had a kiss!!!!
Been a fan 42 years since i was four. And this film to me was the best comedy ever made second was Oh Mr Porter starring Will Hay.God bless Stan And Ollie. They will NEVER be equalled.
@gordonharkerfan love all the will hay films and laurel and hardy.. classics that will stand the test of time. nearly 50 now and nothing else comes close
Was that supposed to be a comedy dance? But... that's how I dance normally. In fact, I'm prancing around right now which makes it VERY difficult to type
@thewelly1973 you were talking about 'funny' places, not nice places. Sad to see you back out of something that is hardly a discussion, by calling me names, only because you lack arguments.
The true genius of Laurel and Hardy is their timelessness. Much of the comedy of that era has dated badly, but Stan and Ollie are as funny now as ever. The BBC showed them on a Saturday morning in the 70s when I was small and I've loved them ever since. I'm not religious, but if there is a Heaven, I reckon these two must be making the angels weep with laughter. :-)
When I first saw this routine I almost wet myself laughing.I just love these guys I have been watching them for years as I am 75 years old now this will continuee to be my favourite.thanks for letting me see this again.Catherine Wesley
when i was a kid in the 1970's their films and shorts were on all the time in the school holidays- the kids of today just are not exposed to any of this genius- it's very sad, instead of all the rubbish on telly these days why not show some of these masterpeices again?
dude, fuck off with your annotation. when I click on the video which you copyrighted it sends me to a place to subscribe to you. well fuck you!!!!! why should I subscribe?
@ODST9137 wow that's impressive. not many people can say that. saw his daughter on 'last of the summer wine' she clearly has the comedy timing. even in a few short seconds she was hilarious. so do you 'feel' like you're related to him or is that a bit of a creepy question? lol
@jaddajn1 Yes... I can actually feel it in some way. And the members of my family also have the same type of comedy that he has. I also have it i think.
@MAPFWH You've got to remember that everyone differs on what is funny. I didn't think this was funny, amusing yes, funny no. But I prefer Stand Up Comedy. So don't go forcing your ideas onto people, you might think it's funny....other will not. respect that :)
@rosieelfgirl Wait there just a moment.... since when did I force any opinions? I asked a question! Anyway, over the last 80 years, I reckon more people will have laughed at this than just a couple of people from "internet world" with a different sense of humour. This is visual comedy, with one of the first sound tracks ever recorded. It's in the Hall of Fame.. What you have viewed is Historical Gold. No argument. No forced opinion.
@MAPFWH Saying 'This is one of the funniest things ever' that is YOUR opinion, AND other peoples, but not EVERYBODY'S. M'kay, Looky I even made it nice and easy to understand for you. I never said, only a few people found it funny, all I'm saying is not everybody finds it funny and you just have to accept that. I'm sure it is 'Historical Gold', what ever that means. But that does not mean everyone in the world is going to roll around laughing. Accept the fact that peoples tastes differ. Grow Up.
@rosieelfgirl There you go paraphrasing.... Actually I wrote "This is one of the funniest things EVER recorded onto film." Not accentuating the "funny", but accentuating the "onto film". So you see, you misunderstood, probably by not fully comprehending the written word. I do accept that not everybody finds it funny. I just was surprised that somebody would actually SHARE that. Oh, and by the way, I bet I'm 3 times your age... I have 4 Grandchildren. One of them loves Laurel & Hardy. He's 10!!
@MAPFWH Paraphrasing is necessary with a 493 character limit. Technically you accentuated the EVER, hence the capitals....that's what unnecessary caps are for in the middle of a sentence. I'm going to ignore that comment. Well if your surprised someone would share that, then clearly you do mind even if it's just an teeny bit. Am I supposed to be impressed? Afraid? Well maybe you would like to know your being made a fool of by a teenager. Wow a 10 year old impressed by dancing men, that's a shock
@rosieelfgirl Not "impressed" by dancing men, but able to understand that this genre of film comedy is in it's most beautiful state. No special effects, no CGI, just plain actors, very little room for mistakes (remember there was a depression on in the USA at this time) as film was expensive. These two men were responsible for making more smiles than you or I could muster. I don't feel you have made a fool of me, more brought a different view to the table. Thankyou for that. :)
@MAPFWH I really doubt a ten year old can 'know' all that. He's 10. When your ten you just go 'Haha, funny dance! *insert derp face*'. Once again, that is your opinion. Oh my god, i cannot believe you're three times my age and do not understand what I'm trying to say! In your opinion, and others, it may be comedy in it's 'most beautiful state' but, however, in other peoples opinions it is not! And no I don't remember the 'Depression' I'm a teenager, and that's american history I am not american.
@rosieelfgirl You won't let this go, will you. I never forced an opinion. I spoke of facts. I can't argue against facts. I fully understand what you are writing. At no time did I suggest anyone was "wrong" to not enjoy it. I merely asked the question "You have to be kidding right?" to another user. By the way, I am also in the UK. I was educated many years ago, and The Great Depression is a time in the history of the US. Google it. Also try "The Grapes of Wrath" aswell. ;) Enjoy.
Nothing comes close to these two. Their comedy is timeless and is enjoyed by all my relatives - old and young, and by me. They brought laughters to millions so hopefully one day a TV channel in the UK will have the foresight to show their movies again.
How about putting them on at 11am in the mornings now the kids have finished school for their holidays BBC???

Dear Jonkheere, Actually..Oliver N.Hardy was 6Ft.2..I'm not sure how much he weighed..when they did"WOW"at Hal Roach's Studios at this time?
But..He was very light on his feet and gracefull..they also worked very hard to make this comedic dance number seem so effortless and funny.

I wish they would show more Laurel and Hardy on TV, better then most of the crap reality TV they put on these day.

Two things: The rear projection was absolutely perfect. Also, Oliver Norville Hardy was really light on his feet!

If Laurel and Hardy never did any films or shorts, if they just did this one scene, they would STILL the comedy icons they are today.
