  • Foarte frumos!!

  • ARE THERE NO WORKHOUSES???

  • This film is very entertaining. You should try the 1938 version, that one is just as good, perhaps even better, but thats probably just my taste. the part of Sgrooge in the 1938 version, is better anyway.I saw this one many years ago as a child at the cinema, here in southampton england.

  • Thank you for the post. I wish I could have recorded it. Good version

  • Same here, not seen this version before, thanks for uploading...

  • My fav movie of all time

  • I've never seen this one. I love the Alistair Sim version, so will have to watch this.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • awesome movie and thanks to share it. i've only see the 3d movie film (the most recent so), but never seen it as a movie film. i love it

  • J'adore !!!!!!!!!!

  • How did you find this???? I have been looking for this for several years. I saw it once on TV several years ago but never could find it on DVD.

  • I wonder how many films of the Christmas Carol exists.

  • Is it just me or does Seymour Hicks as Scrooge remind anyone of Michael Gough a little bit?

  • this is a great version with excellent acting; thanks for uploading! I'd always thought Alistair Sim's version was good, but now I realize this first one has much better acting.

  • I caught this last night (Christmas Eve) on my local TV station - it's so very odd and strange.

I got the cheap over-dramatically played parts, but it was actually a fresh perspective on an old story, and it was actually entertaining to watch...

I preferred watching this over the idiotic-at-times and overplayed to death "A Christmas Story," the beaten to death, cheap-looking "A Wonderful Life" and will watch this again ANY TIME over ANY horrible Charlie Brown cartoon.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Great movie classic with a beautiful message that the world should never forget.

God Bless and glory to the new born king.

  • thank u for the video it is my all time fav im 28 and have lovedthis fim since a kid

  • Thanks for the upload. Best version yet....I watch it every Christmas Eve!

  • Merry Christmas to you all ! My friend !

  • This Is The Longest Video Ive Ever Seen On Youtube!

  • May this timeless Christmas tale move us enough to put to rest the Scrooge in us (if any).

  • @achahei nice comment, merry christmas to you :)

  • @dodgey212 Merry Christmas to you, too. God bless.

  • This movie seems much better than the remake with Jim carrey even if Jim carrey is good and the animated movie in synthetic images was nice. But i didn't know this black and white movie and actually Jim carrey's one is a copy. Thanks for this rare film.

  • Dickens wrote this in 1843 but the modern setting of 'Hark the herald's angels sing' wasn't known until 1855.

  • The original opening titles have been replaced in this copy. Very interesting.

  • whoa black and white

  • This is the story of a mans journey being a Republican, going to Democrat. (I'm neither).

  • @TheEidolon7

Scrooge doesn't become a big government shill.

  • @bertmustin Thank God/s for that!

  • Bummer, Fezziwig isn't in this one. :(

  • Poor Tiny Tim took an arrow to the knee.

  • no esta en sapaol

  • scrooge was my role model growing up. lol

  • 15:58 Gordon Ramsays dad!

  • This is always a classic.

  • Merry CHRISTMAS BACK AT YA! <3

  • Muchas gracias desde mi bello país Perú, Thanks a lot. :)

  • Merry Christmas fellow youtubers

  • to have someone that sticks by you even though you cant really do much moniteraly is a good thing and if they stick by you it's real. I am weaning my son out of that mentality and he is learning that sometimes things are not that important so when he cant get something he understands. im pretty sure these fools have another gathering coming up on this date another ritual revolving around money, religion and military cause the wicked work hard to be wicked and attempt to look like saints.

  • Im no scrooge though i liked christmas it was for the kids, my mom would call us to look out the window and would point at a plane at night and tell us that was santa clause. so as long that children are not learning that love can be purchased, when you get into the habit of buying love what may happen is that when you cant't buy something in the place of love conflict comes in. I love first and if i struggle to get a gift then its more meaningful to me no matter the price.

  • Marley should have gone gansta on the dam jew!

  • Chuck Norris is hunting a new wig.

  • DO A WEB SEARCH ON:

    charles h. miranda OR:

    charlesthepoet2003 OR:

    charlesthepoet2004

    THANKS.

  • An invisible Marley? Kind of takes the horror out of that scene. And they couldn't have sprung an extra couple bucks for an actor to play a young Scrooge? It's interesting to see "stage" acting on film, but since this is such an early film, that was the norm. Interesting version overall.

  • @ohger1 i thought the scene with marley was pretty powerful anyways, marleys voice is pretty intimidating if you ask me.

  • @MegaHarmonica1 I guess... I concede that I wasn't really watching the movie as much as it was playing while I was doing other internet work. I'll give it another look soon when I can give it my full attention.

  • I need a time machine .Anyone ?? thumbs up

  • They should do a new version with Newt Gingrich as Scrooge.

  • @vdarte why?

  • @ohger1 I take back my comment -- Newt is beyond redemption. Instead, I would cast him as Marley, weighted down by the baggage of a misspent life.

  • i always like older films, its neat to see the time period furniture the language & how they made do with what they had back then for special effects. i also like to think back then Christmas meant so much more than it seems to now. they would be happy with an apple in their Christmas stocking, try that now ha ha!

  • @youraverageuser The older films taught us much more values then the newer ones do today. I think this should be a must for every household and everyone to watch more then once a year because of the message it bares

  • @lthomack i would have to agree with you on that. Merry Christmas my friend :)

  • @youraverageuser Now they would be happy with an Apple IPad

  • A VERY WELL DONE version of the story that hasn't been known as well as the others, but is nevertheless dark, ingeniously done & despite the limitations of the time, excellent fx for then. It's 1 of my favs.I didn't think any1 else liked besides me. Seymour Hicks is a VERY convincing Scrooge, a great actor. He really gets it right. Thanx so much for uploading!-& the FULL film @that! "A Me-e-erry Christmas to all the world! And a Happy New Year to every1! God Bless us all! God Bless us EVERY 1!"

  • Thanks

  • This is my first time having seen this version. Not bad at all if I do say

  • I like Perspicacity, and I like Sagacity. I like a person's level of thesaurusnessity also. I don't like posessessesnessicity though. Anyone like that is not worth fifteen shillings a year, let alone a week.

  • what a Excellent version, sims as always been my favourite and still is, but Seymour Hicks what a actor, i carnt think of anything other picture have seen him in. Thanks for uploading.

  • @DXFan1269 excellent sir, you are right its the best :)

  • the oldest is the best !! what ever you say cant change that

  • nothing compares to George C. Scott

  • @TheComrad1975 not even close to seymour hicks :)

  • its wonderful

  • for me this is the best version the oldest and seymour was the best scrooge :)

  • fantastic thanks luckystrike502 :)

  • what an endearingly poignant film. i was moved to tears 4 times throughout it. undoubtedly one of the greatest narratives ever written. i adore dickens. and i adore this film - well acted, beautifully shot, tightly edited, brilliantly written.

  • scrooge is a old version of patels tight asses count every penny !!!!!!

  • Haha I've been watching to many old silent movies... When they started talking I was like... What? How is that possible? Then I realized it was made in 1935 ^^. Not used to these modern technologies..

  • Check out my new original cartoon I created based on the scrooge now on my channel!!

  • Oh my god this film is 76 years old!!!!!!

  • the longest video on youtube!!!!

  • hello! can i ask a question?? how can i upload a video longer than 20 minutes??

  • @airahmuga he has a video tutorial search his channel

  • I do not really watch this and the second spirit of this version don't bother me, but the second spirit of 1970 version is really annoying and his voice bokes my ears!

  • I think Iv'e only seen this version 1 or 2 times. I like the '38 version, but this is good, also.

    thank you!

  • I love this original.

  • a christmas carol is a good book..i love this movie :D though it's black and white. :D

  • @FPSKylesLetsPlays HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :D

  • best version

  • That was a great rendition of The Christmas carol! It was so old and more realistic in that time of life. It mentions God so much more and I just love the crustiness of it!

  • This is the best version ever....watch it every Christmas!

  • @geminielf7 You're the epitome of a Scrooge by making such an ignorant comment. Do everyone a favor and keep your narrow-minded posts to yourself.

  • I think its pathetic that this forum which should be without greed and averace is once again polluted with ads. This is supposed to be an open forum where things are shared and more and more I see people profiting off it. It makes me sick, especially at Christmas.

  • @markarnold1963 Fuck off commie.

  • @FPSKylesLetsPlays nice one, cheers

  • @FPSKylesLetsPlays You're bad at spelling, and even worse at making sense.

  • *To All of You Posters Putting Down Capitalism Here: Yeah, it has it's problems but what do you suggest replacing it with? Socialism? I hate rich jerks and naked greed as much as anybody but come on. As long as there's a very necessary element of freedom in society, there's always going to be some privilege, inequality, unfairness, call it what you will. That is all.

  • Old lovely Christmas times......

  • The Tea/Repuglic Party should be made to watch this. Compassion is too expensive anymore. Twas ever thus.

  • THEE Best - a true original to be cherished...thank U whoever uploaded the whole flick on behalf of my girlfriend overseas.

  • WELL BE GOOD...xx.

  • 8 people don't like christmas

  • Why the fuck am I getting Indian adverts? Piss off and let me watch the video.

  • Fuck these adds off!!!!! Scrooge what a fuckin tightass lol classic....

  • This is a 1935 version of Scrooge which I discovered on DVD about 8 years ago.

The atmosphere of this production captures a feeling of Charles Dickens' 19th century more authentically than any other I've seen. I really believe it captures a feeling of the time of Dickens more than any other version I've seen.

Because of the length, you may have to exit out and try to reload if you have trouble with the connection.

  • The first scene begins with an out of tune trio of street musicians outside of Scrooge's counting house. The wrong notes are well planned, but don't this opening scare you away from watching the movie. There are a few 1935 special photographic effects and the appearance and the manner of the actors are very effective in presenting London in 1835. You can feel the misery and cold.

  • the Alister Sim version was the best !!!

  • @trickykid73 and the George C. Scott was second best ever!

  • @trickykid73

    I agree Trickykid

This is however ( to me ) quite charming as it had the Audible dialogue but also a strong musical score behind it and the same volume as the sound of the actors voices.....

I guess they were dipping their toe in the pool before diving in . I love this version but Yes YOU got it !

Alistair Sim was and Is THE BEST Ebeneezer Scrooge EVER

  • This is not bad, but I perfer the Alister Sim version

  • @AdoublesLdouble alister learnt from the original seymour Hicks the best

  • It sounds like Claude Rains voice as Jacob Marley!

  • Who knew they're movie back in 1935 would end up on a magical screen that you could pause rewind and fast forward, and could be viewed by anyone around the world.

    Insane.

  • Hate that Koodo wrestler guy... I prefered the older Koodo commercials that were clever and artistic; these are just "trendy" at best (Like everyone elses)

  • 8 people would rather die and decrease the surplus population.

  • I love this story...perhaps it is because I believe in its message. I agree with you LuckyStrike...we must remember our conscience in face of a world that often does not. We must remember that our lives are about more than making money and acquiring of temporary things. We live to make a difference in the world, by touching the lives of others we meet along the way. Only the good that we do in this world will last. Merry Christmas everyone...remember the true meaning for the season.

  • Just fantastic. Thank you. A Merry Christmas 2010 to all.

  • Xmas is Christmas, without the Christ. Don't X him out!

I hope you all have a great Christmas, and God bless us, every one! :)

  • @OoOKrazyGirlOoO The abbreviation 'Xmas' for Christmas is of Greek origin. The word for Christ in Greek is Xristos. During the 16th century, Europeans began using the first initial of Christ's name, "X" in place of the word Christ in Christmas as a shorthand form of the word. Although the early Christians understood that X stood for Christ's name, later Christians who did not understand the Greek language mistook "Xmas" as a sign of disrespect.

    from wiki.answers

  • The people who clicked Dislike meant "dis i like" ;)

  • If pple that rules the world would see this story, if they notice what people face, and they needings..How much i want that those "spirits" would appear to lot of "scrooges" who dont care the situation of people who surrounded them....and in a cynical way say "merry christmas"....

  • Bah humbug!

  • this always puts things in perspective, always scary part was the ghostface in the doorknocker!

  • this always puts things in perspective

  • If you see Bob Crotchrott, tell him I bought him a turkey! LOL! ;)

  • Movies made in the 60's and earlier are great - movies made in the 20's and 30's are awesome.

  • Just discovered this by chance - just awesome are you exactly?! Thanks so much for posting!

  • Thank you so very much LuckyStrike. I've never seen this version.

God bless us, everyone. And, LuckyStrike502, too!

  • Thank You for this!

I like Charles Dickens and this is a special one... A Christmas Carol!

Merry Christmas and God bless you!

  • Thanks for the PAPA JOHN's info TRASH...next time I'm in the mood for pizza, I'll pass Papa John's right by.

VIEWERS: DO NOT PATRONIZE THE ESTABLISHMENTS WHO FORCE YOU TO VIEW THEIR COMMERCIALS ON YOUTUBE!

  • Scrooges of all periods are cheap skinflint bastards . But the scrooges of the modern age do it in sneak, no moxy like ole scrooge of old

  • Thanks for sharing this priceless piece of vintage british cinema with us...wow.

  • humbug

  • I have seen SEVERAL versions of A Christmas Carol.

But I think I like this Scrooge the best. He plays a wonderful old, grumpy bastard.

  • many quotable features for such excellant protayel promoting to human nature should always be and never be

  • This version is ok, but the actor playing the Ghost of Christmas Present was very flat and really didn't seem to make much of an effort at the role. I also would have preferred to see Marley and the Lord Mayor's Banquet as far as I know wasn't in the Dickens original. But other than that, its quite good for the time.

Seymour Hicks and the actor playing the nephew as well as Mrs Cratchit were good at their roles.

Anyway thankyou for downloading it. Worth seeing.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 u did not see him thats why

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 The dinner at the Lord Mayor's was referenced in the book. Dickens just didn't make a big issue out of it.

  • "Innkeeper, more bread"

    "That'll be a h'penny extra, sir."

    "No more bread."

Love that line. Good day, sir, i said Good day.

  • I'm glad this was in full so I didn't have to search all of YouTube just for this movie! Thanks to you!

  • Hey, Luckystrike, do you have the original Wolfman?

  • Great,thank you LuckyStrike!

Another old gem.Ill consume anything with the Scrooge stamp on it!

  • As a first 'talkie' version, it is very good and sticks to Dickens' original story and was no doubt a hit in its time, but for me, Alistair Sim's 1951 version is THE definitive Scrooge!. This story is a brilliant piece of English literature, and is part of our great Christmas tradition. Long may it continue, and continue without the tacky Hollywood glitz or the poison of political correctness. Merry Christmas Everyone- God Bless Us - Everyone!.

  • @pyglett Agreed! I have the bastardised coloured version of the Alister Sim classic, so whenever I watch it I adjust the 'colour' mode on my remote untill the picture is black and white, and watch it as it was MEANT to be.

  • @jinxer70 you can thank Ted Turner for the color version when i saw it the first time it didn't look right.

  • @pyglett this version is good too. and i like the 1951 version as well Alistar Sim was a terrific Scrooge. god bless him.

  • @pyglett what makes the 1951 one better?

  • i need my christmas present i need it now... hehe want to be scrooge too...

  • George C. Scott was the best Scrooge

  • Isnt That Dr. Zeus?

  • Why is it that the version I have of this classic is only just under an hour long?? It came as a companion piece to the 1951 version on DVD. I'm glad I get to see the whole thing on here!

  • seymour hick? idk why, but LAMO!!!

  • This is our school play this year! I got the part of scrooge!

  • @pman590 I bet you did.

  • @BahHumbug1843 Actually i did, if you really want to know i can even put up a vid showing my costume if you want!

  • first chrismas film 24 left

  • a masterpiece!

  • Scrooge seems even meaner in this version than the rest. Thansk for posting this gem. I love the story and love Christmas~ thanks !!

  • Thank you LuckyStrike502 and Merry Christmas!

  • i've seen plenty of adaptations of this book , and this was a new one to me and a total delight !!! thankyou for posting !!!

  • I wish conservative talk show hosts like Michale Medved and Rush Limbaugh would remember the lessons of history as portrayed in this movie.

  • @Cyberia3716

That can also go for the British Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Ian Duncan Smith who believes unemployed people should be criminalised.

And George Osborne while we are at it.
