I want to know more! I believe that someday we´ll reach the very bottom of our ocean! What does it hide over there? Giants fish? On thing for sure, we´ll discover new species, thanks to the Virgin Oceanic sub!
Props to Branson for doing such cool things that he can release trailers for them. Richard Branson = Lawnchair Larry + several billion dollars of disposable money.
This is just spectacularly amazing to think that of all the vessels which have been to points at depth of many oceanic landmarks, this vehicle would be able to achieve all of them and beyond! Simply amazing!
@Hypergalactica The point is that it's not explored at all. The manned Trieste reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, but that was it. The two divers had a view of 5 feet away in one direction. That's hardly an exploration. Branson is taking this to a completely different level.
I love this, but the Challenger deep is NOT unexplored - Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh took the bathyscaphe Trieste to the bottom of the planet in 1960. And unlike most things these days, the first ever expedition down there was actually manned.
If you are interested in more information about the idea behind the sub watch watch?v=qZ7wL4gIzCE It is a google tech talk with Graham Hawkes, the lead engineer behind the technology.
Can't wait to see what's down there...specially the intelligent beings. I reckon this will trigger the end of our civilization - as predicted for 2012 - simply because we'll become a new civilization, mixture of humans & aliens...o_0
@samery2k But don't look down too much, you gotta look in all directions in order to be fully aware. Branson does this very well with Virgin Galactic and Virgin Oceanic.
Now we can all find out if Megaladon or other dinosaurs still exist. I personally think it would be exciting to see what wildlife exists at those depths. :)
get it out there...develop it later but just being the first to claim the idea is a massive brand bonus Sir Richard...great stuff! Glad your a good guy....what would you be like if you were a James Bond Bad Guy?
i hope they use night vision and night vision type lighting i would hate for them to attract the attention of something huge and the sub be dragged away into the abyss never to be seen again
@Biocide201 "Color the Sky" by Thomas Bergersen of TSFH. If you want more look him up on iTunes or look up the album Invincible by TSFH. He has an album coming out very soon, Illusions.
@DotsOnALine You don't get it do you? You can't just specifically fund cancer for research and expect a solution in an instant. Most of the time its discoveries and technologies from one branch in science and engineering that leads to solutions in others. Also, this is his choice, which is a far better choice then what many other rich people do.
this is just publicity, or at least the final product will look nothing like that. a bunch of brooklyn hipsters probably produced this clip, not any engineers

@SYGOBEYOND - It's movie soundtrack duo "Two Steps From Hell", consisting of Nick Phoenix and Thomas J. Bergersen. They have spent the last seven years or so developing a sound design company, Quantum Leap, that produces the best sampled instrument libraries. They are very creative, prolific and famous in the industry. The Bathyscaphe Trieste, only manned sub ever to descend to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, was also steel. It could withstand more pressure precisely because it was smaller, perfectly spherical, and had a hull that was 5 inches thick.
This new sub will have a titanium hull, not steel, and will house only 1. Also, a *quartz* bubble cockpit. Provided it's expertly forged with no imperfections (micro fissures mainly) it should be able to withstand more pressure than the Trieste.
