It doesn't seem a tornado, it looks like a downburst were winds can reach more than 150 mph (a little less than a hurricane), a coloumn of cool air sinks at a very high speed when it touches the ground strong winds spread out in all directions like an air explosion. Not only Tornados can produce powerful winds, sometimes tornados are less strong than downbursts.
This was probably caused by a microburst or a strong thunderstorm downburst. Winds look to be somewhere in the range of 60-75mph, but it is hard to tell for sure. Knowing the damage caused would help greatly in pinpointing a more specific speed. Where any large limbs or trees downed? Did any nearby structures receive roofing or any kind of structural damage? Were power poles bent or snapped?
these winds would be classified as very dangerous. They are very much the same wide spread wind activity as a hurricane. You can not avoid winds like this and follow them in your car like a tornado. These types of winds are what destroy areas on a large scale.
LMFAO OMG i love how ppl are tellin you its not.. OBviously u know its not, it was just crazy to see cuz it never happens here ( i was totally outside like excited n stuff)but i love how everyone is tellin u wats wat..
I LOL'ED WHEN I SEEN THE TORNADOLOVER PERSON POST OMGEED.oh and again when ur umbrella flew away... ours did too!!
As usual the general public exagerates and embelishes the facts. This is nothing more than a gust from a thunderstorm. It is barely enough of a gust to be classified as straight line winds.
Studio2014... if those winds just appeared, you were probably caught in the downdraft of the stormcell. Very dangerious things and why airline pilots wont fly through serious thunderstorms unless they really have to. Its definatly not a tornado what you saw. But it is thought that it is one of the elements needed to help a tornado form.
its a bit if wind hahahahaha why do yu americans always think its a tornado :L Stupid.

@MarkFerry1976 mph, or km/h. both values are not referred to a hurricane. It does not respond to its intensity.

I think is a "monsoon". My monsoon means a lot of winds and rains. It is NOT a hurricane because it can't stay for so long in a very high place.

Downburst.

It looks like it could be a downburst, or merely strong thunderstorm winds. If it was a tornado there would be rotation.

those were probably more in the 45-60 mph range. simply severe thunderstorm winds and nothing more.

Awesome winds. Look to be at or slightly above hurricane force. Where do you live in Ontario?
