Someone served me tapioca pudding when I was a girl - SO yummy. So mom bought some instant kind, it wasn't yummy like the first one. Of course it's possible that the texture differences influenced me ^_^
Thanks for teaching to put salt in sweets! DH's face when I put salt in a sweet sauce was SO funny, he knew he wouldn't like it, but he did. Next time I made sweet sauce, I spooned out a bit pre-salted, then post-salted and let him compare. He begrudgingly agreed salted sweets are better.
Maria, thank you so much for posting this wonderful recipe... such an awesome explanation about the procedure and everything.... We visited a 5 star hotel in Cancun and ordered this dessert, and it was like being there all over again!!.... CONGRATULATIONS KEEP EM COMING!!!
Do you need a double boiler to make this tapioca pudding? I have only purchased instant tapioca because all the other bags of tapioca (large or small pearl) say that a double boiler is needed, and I am not sure about where I could get one.
I just cooked that recipe 2 minutes ago, and it's really delicious! We could also try it with maple syrup (instead of a part of the sugar), it could be really good too.
Although I thought you put too much rice in your rice pudding, this tapioca pudding recipe looks like it would be excellent (I like tapioca pudding better than rice pudding anyways). However, the only way I have ever made tapioca pudding was with the granular tapioca. When I was in the store and I read the instructions on the bag of large pearl tapioca, it said a double boiler was required. That would be fine, except I do not know where I can purchase a double-boiler!
you should be able to find double-boilers fairly easily at any Wal-Mart store, though they can be a bit pricey.
In all honestly, as long as you use a thick-bottomed pot, low heat, and keep a good eye on your pudding, you don't really need a double boiler for something like this.
I've never found anyone who knows what tapioca pudding is. How about semolina pudding? we always have that but most confuse it with salmonella ;D Or if we're feeling boring then just plain old rice pudding..
thanks for this post. Made the tapioca this afternoon...I used vanilla flavored soy milk and I can say the texture and taste was fine. I'll play with this recipe next time without the eggs since I don't like to consume animal products. Thanks for the video. P S did you get that stove working better =0)
By the way I think loverofsinging44 should shut the f@*% up!
Oh my goodness! This woman is by FAR the most intelligent, engaging and generous "TV cook" I've ever watched. I usually hate them! But this lady is fantastic! I wish I lived next door to her!!!! What a lovely person! I only wish she really was on TV! She should be!!!! Well done Maria!! Keep these great , informative videos coming!!
I do this basically the same way you do, but I don't add eggs.... I simply "boil" the tapioca pearls with milk, sugar and vanilla until the mixture kinda' decreases, and then just eat it with cinnamon. Lovely and healthy thing
This tapioca pudding was the best. This was the first time in my life that my tapioca pudding didnt turn into glue and end up in the garbage. I am so happy and will be making this often. Thanks Maria. I have watched many of your video clips. I like that you seem to be a regular Mom wanting to feed your family a variety of interesting foods, much like me. Your videos are very well done. It appears that you not just cook, but click the on and off button on the video and edit too. Good job!
This recipe looks like "the real deal" .. I have never been real big on pudding. However I would love to try this, "real" versus "instant" anything always makes such a difference.
hey! don't hate on my kozy shack
