The deer herd in area's is too high and needs controlling, so culling the heard should not be considered an issue. In my area, there's a local nature preserve that has way too many deer, so they hold annual hunts now. Meat is donated to a local homeless shelter.

You can hunt on national forests around here that's about all its used for...you shoot a deer behind the shoulder for its heart and lungs and 9 times out of 10 it will run a little ways but sometimes it will drop it.
maybe look into how they got the deer there, and compare to your local law. around here if the deer were trapped or fed into the area artificially, you're in trouble. just because they are removing deer, doesn't remove them from your written law.

Hell this year in certain counties they increased the tag limit to "unlimited" due to deer being hit over 10 times in a week. Hell.. maybe they were diseased? Weather they were shot and left to suffocate is bad yes, but that's even more humiliation for the shooter to not take it down in a clean shot.

im a hunter and when i shoot deer i dont let them suffer if i shoot one and it is still alive i usually finish it off so it wont suffer and i eat the meat from the deer and not just throw it in a ditch like some people do and i dont hunt fenced in deer. most of the deer i saw that was shot was shot in the head so they didnt suffer trust me and would you rather deer to over populate and catch a disease and die a month long slow and painful death by starvation or a fast death by a bullet

Also I live in OH actually very close to Akron, and the deer do get over populated and a lot of them are hit by cars. I'm not a hunter or anything, and I'm not all for it. But a few years ago they released coyotes in the area to control the population, which is dangerous. Is that not any worse? Animal on animal.

I live very closely to this park. The deer population is out of control in this area. The dear culls are meant to protect the environment from the deer over feeding, and also to protect the motorists. While I don't condone the use of a plastic bag to suffocate the animal, I believe that if the first shot wasn't a clean kill, then quickly follow up with another to end the animals suffering.

There is such a thing as humane hunting but this is not it.
All us hunters need to be taught to respect the animals were taking, regardless of our reasoning. After all all we give up is a bullet or an arrow and their giving up their lives, they at very least deserve kindness and a death with as little pain as possible.
I watched the shot placement, they all hit vitals, but being urban shooting they had to use low caliber rifles or risk collateral. Plus, I would have petted the deer too the fact that it survived the first shot and was in pain is a call for some human sympathy. Also, the meat is given the Native Americans on the reservation. If we end up with injured deer (we track and finish) we head shoot it so it stops suffering. This video is crap.

Deer are beautiful animals but they don't know enough to stop reproducing,, and to stop eating themselves out of food. Unfortuantly, they must be killed -- but these guys are scum. Head shots should be clean kills. These shots obviously were not clean, not performed by sharp shooters, and they were not humain. Using suffication as a means to complete the kill is criminal and that puts the person doing the suffication on the level of serial killers. Culling deer is necessary, but this is wrong

@thersplayernoob We did not pick the worst. This is the only clips that showed the killings. It was an undercover operation with planted cameras. Therefore most of the footage doesn't capture the killings. These cameras were in the right place at the right time, and what they show is an operation that was careless and sloppy at best. That would explain why the cameras were seized and deleted by the killers when they were found, but we already had these clips. See following comment...

Since this was not a hunt per se, but rather a government extermination effort, it is hard to understand why any ethical individual, or even halfway competent hunter would attempt to defend it or assume it is the worst. This is simply how this outrageous operation worked.

Deer populations need to be managed. With urban expansion, their natural predators have been eradicated and now they are running all over the place. Look at natural ranges of wolves, bears and mountain lions. Here is Illinois, the mountain lions are just starting to show up. But bears will never come back. Who wants to wake up to a bear eating out of their garbage. Chronic Wasting Disease is spread because of over population. Humans are the only remaining efficient predator.

To be frank, it is a reasonable act to extend deer season by a week or two to combat overpopulation, IF their is a genuine issue with population control. That being said, population control should be done through DISCIPLINED measures (like increasing the open season time for said animal) with standards in place. We had a similar issue in Illinois a few years ago and that was the solution and it worked well. These acts though are indeed cruel and unnecessary.

I come from a town where hunting is a way of life here. Ive almsot had deer crashes, plus hunting is a efficient way to keep deer popuations under control. However I think the point here was that ethical hunting reuires a clean kill or at least ensuring the deer is truly dead as soon as possible. The parks management failed to follow the ethical way of hunting, I dont object to hunting as long as its done legaly and is a clean, quick kill.

A dear just killed my daughters best friend in a car accident in an urban area just south of where this video was taken here. She was 18. Torrie often ate dinner with us. We miss her. They didn't kill enough as far as I'm concerned. The odnr could have saves her life by opening gun season another week and passing out a few more tags.

im a hunter and when i shoot deer i dont let them suffer if i shoot one and it is still alive i usually finish it off so it wont suffer and i eat the meat from the deer and not just throw it in a ditch like some people do and i dont hunt fenced in deer. most of the deer i saw that was shot was shot in the head so they didnt suffer trust me and would you rather deer to over populate and catch a disease and die a month long slow and painful death by starvation or a fast death by a bullet

I agree with your cause, but these people are killing and retrieving the animals, which leaves me to believe they are doing it for food, not sport. Its the food chain, we kill for food. Also I live in OH actually very close to Akron, and the deer do get over populated and a lot of them are hit by cars. I'm not a hunter or anything, and I'm not all for it. But a few years ago they released coyotes in the area to control the population, which is dangerous. Is that not any worse? Animal on animal.

I live very closely to this park. The deer population is out of control in this area. The dear culls are meant to protect the environment from the deer over feeding, and also to protect the motorists. While I don't condone the use of a plastic bag to suffocate the animal, I believe that if the first shot wasn't a clean kill, then quickly follow up with another to end the animals suffering.

A few rules that I go by while hunting.
-I never shoot any big doe when a smaller one is around.
-I always make clean shots, as in I won't shoot until I am POSITIVE that the deer won't suffer long.
-I treat deer with respect. I love to watch them more than I love hunt them.
-After every kill, I say a silent thank you to Mother Nature.
-EVERY molecule of meat is used. And all scraps go in the cane field in back of my house for the crows to eat.

I watched the shot placement, they all hit vitals, but being urban shooting they had to use low caliber rifles or risk collateral. Plus, I would have petted the deer too the fact that it survived the first shot and was in pain is a call for some human sympathy. Head shots should be clean kills. These shots obviously were not clean, not performed by sharp shooters, and they were not humain. @thersplayernoob We did not pick the worst. This is the only clips that showed the killings. It was an undercover operation with planted cameras. Therefore most of the footage doesn't capture the killings. These cameras were in the right place at the right time, and what they show is an operation that was careless and sloppy at best. That would explain why the cameras were seized and deleted by the killers when they were found, but we already had these clips. See following comment...

Since this was not a hunt per se, but rather a government extermination effort, it is hard to understand why any ethical individual, or even halfway competent hunter would attempt to defend it or assume it is the worst. This is simply how this outrageous operation worked.

Deer populations need to be managed. With urban expansion, their natural predators have been eradicated and now they are running all over the place. Look at natural ranges of wolves, bears and mountain lions. Here is Illinois, the mountain lions are just starting to show up. But bears will never come back. Who wants to wake up to a bear eating out of their garbage. Chronic Wasting Disease is spread because of over population. Humans are the only remaining efficient predator.

To be frank, it is a reasonable act to extend deer season by a week or two to combat overpopulation, IF their is a genuine issue with population control. That being said, population control should be done through DISCIPLINED measures (like increasing the open season time for said animal) with standards in place. We had a similar issue in Illinois a few years ago and that was the solution and it worked well. These acts though are indeed cruel and unnecessary.

@ jspur in legal terms the deer didnt kill your daughters best friend it is considered an act of god, i feel for the loss but to blame an animal for someones death is obsured.

im an avid hunter and love to shoot deer but this is unacceptable. i do kill animals but i do it humanley with a clean shot and if not i kill as fast as possible with my knife or a follow up shot. i also eat the animals i kill and use as much of the body as possible and then whats left i return to the forest to decompose and put the nutrients back into the eco system! i hate people llike shown in the video. giving a bad name to hunters.

well what did they do with the deer did they use them for food i hunt and out of the legal limit of 10 deer a season we are aloud to take i take 2-3 and make deer hash and we eat that during the rest of the year i do not hunt them for sport but yes this would be bad if they just did not eat them.

Yes in some areas deer are over populated. In my area they released a few coyotes.

I come from a town where hunting is a way of life here. Ive almsot had deer crashes, plus hunting is a efficient way to keep deer popuations under control. However I think the point here was that ethical hunting reuires a clean kill or at least ensuring the deer is truly dead as soon as possible. The parks management failed to follow the ethical way of hunting, I dont object to hunting as long as its done legaly and is a clean, quick kill.

The deer did NOT kill your daughter's best friend. Poor driivng was more likely the culprit. I am sorry for your daughter's loss, but the accident was NOT the deer's fault. We need to stop acting like the victims and placing balme on someone else for our own mistakes.

A dear just killed my daughters best friend in a car accident in an urban area just south of where this video was taken here. She was 18. Torrie often ate dinner with us. We miss her. They didn't kill enough as far as I'm concerned. The odnr could have saves her life by opening gun season another week and passing out a few more tags.
