Sometimes, I can hardly believe that this song is by Mancini. His orchestrations for Pink Panther, Peter Gunn, etc., were lush, to be sure, but they always seemed to AVOID deep emotion. THIS song, on the other hand, unabashedly plunges straight into the heart, grabs and pulls on every heartstring it can, and never lets go. It's as though Mancini finally let down all his inhibitions and just wept onto the sheet music with sheer, raw emotional power.

but that is how much this song means to me and I love it... my wife and I have been married 24 years and this is our song too. my dad was a great dad..My dad made a good living and took us to places I might other wise might not have seen.... we had our Moon river as a family and I trying to carry it own with my family and taking mom with us when we hit the river as we say when we take a trip.....thanks for letting me share this and posting this, I love the bob did this thanks BOB......

Bob, the song means a lot of things to me, first it was my mom and dads song, they married in 1959, and he passed away in 2004 and mom said they had a great journey together....and she had Moon River playing....I remember as a kid them dancing in the living room to this song, I grew up in the late 60s and 70s and it was a wonderful childhood....and parents.. I know this sounds crazy and I will get some nut comments and maybe I need them, I want this song play at my services when I die...

I was very moved by the video and the song. Do you know the meaning of the song. Are the words pretaining to two lovers. Or is it about 1 person's desire to find his/her happiness. In 1962 this song was deicated to me by my first true love. He died before he was able to tell me how it made him think of us.

Thanks for your comments. I think the song can have a number of meanings depending on the circumstances of the listeners. I guess your first lover felt that you and he would become two drifters setting out on a voyage through life. This is a short film called Moon river made by myself and Simon Ford, the singer. We shot it in a day in a village hall and the total budget was £600 sterling. A longer version called Back to the Moon has been posted and this features Simon singing Blue Moon. Simon has plans to add more sequences so that we end up with a complete story.
