Thx! It was one of my favorit games. I still have the computer, but all games a had were on tapes, so im not sure they still working. Long time ago... :D
Just as a side note, my first day's pay back in the day working for Novagen was a copy of this game for the 800XL. Still holds up as playable today me thinks?
It WAS great, wasn't it? Definitely one of the highlights of the XL/XE's catalogue. Making these videos, I still really enjoyed playing it, too. There aren't many games from that period that hold up well now.
If you don't want to plug your XE back in, you could always download and emulator and the game. That would probably take a lot more effort, though!
Yes, I been thinking about emulating the atari now, especially since my poor aged drive is starting to surely die. I know I also found an emulator for the PSP, which sounds pretty neat!
I remember trying to emulate my favorite atari game, Halley Project, but also remember sorely failing :(
I'm quite tempted to get a PSP for emulation purposes. I've got an 800XL emulator for my DS, but the handheld just doesn't have the power to run it fast enough, which is a shame.
I'd not heard of Halley Project before. It looks a bit like Elite, but without the shooting. What emulator did you try to run it on? I've always found Atari800win Plus to be good.
The PSP will definitely have enough power for it, though I didn't try the emulator yet. The DS is pretty much just good for emulating GBA and DS... Heck, the PSP emulates regular gameboy better than the DS's does!
I'm pretty sure it should work fine. I also think it has targus keyboard support. (You might want to look into buying a targus infrared keyboard too. There's a homebrew plugin that will allow you to use it for common applications like the browser as well!)
Oh and... I don't remember which emu I tried to emulate Halley Project on. But it's OK, I ordered a SIO2PC wire. :) So I'll just "emulate" it on the real shebang.
Yeah, I think it's safe to say this was better than Battlezone. It was definitely more atmospheric. Even today, the landscapes evoke the feeling of being somewhere forbidding and alien.
i always thought this was one of the best games on the atari - brings back good memories!

Haha, I stupidly kept trying to reverse, even though there was an obstacle behind me. It was one of those, "Oh craaaaaaaap!" moments.

Excellent game, even nowadays. This game uses some of the first A.I routines in 8 bit gaming if I am not wrong.

Oh, I guess I just imagined writing FlickerTerm 80 then.

As much as it's not my place to tell people to quell their YouTube Rage, can we at least keep it civil, guys? Ta much!

Mr Heli, why did you remove my comments?
BFCboi 2 years ago
I didn't; 'Comment removed by author' means that they were removed by you, not me. If I'd removed comments, it would leave no trace.

Heh, BFCboi obviously isn't the brightest bulb.

Hah, still leaning from side to side watching it. Sad that games became too bloated for these one man band programmers to keep up.
