@saiyan536 use the up key to add horizontal lines and the down key to remove horizontal lines. use right to add vertical lines and left to remove vertical lines
Only a complete jerk-off would say that this is unimpressive because it isn't 'game legal'. This is masterful, I was especial impressed with the ears, i hate doing ears. Anyway kudos, I know you don't need it, though. And it's always fun to model with lightwave because of how simple yet powerful the tools are, you have much more control over poly's in this than max, but I like to export my objects to max for texturing and other effects that lightwave may not do as well with.
if it is then u gotta teach me :p...im used to max for 4 years n just started learning lightwave. looking at the vid, it does seem like modeling (atleast poly) is as powerful and fast as max, i should learn more XD
ya i know..the vid was fast so i could figure that it wasnt max...especially bcuz the viewport and colour scheme and shading in viewport is very similar to older version of max...i now know that this is lightwave cuz now im somewhat familiar with some of the tools hes using.
This is not Max! This is Lightwave! Don't you think the author would know what package he's using? Furthermore, look at all the Lightwave tools and weight shading. Max doesn't have weight shading - see
5:22. Aside from that, all the color schemes are Lightwave, the viewport grid is the standard perspective grid, there's no gizmo/manipulator, he's using dragnet which is a Lightwave trademark tool (not move with axis constraints Max-style), etc. I don't mean offense, but I don't think you have used Max or Lightwave to a great extent.
Lightwave is still in evolution, ask the hundreds who have given this product the toss as I have. Since version 4.3 the product has never (NEVER) been complete and could stand on its own with out some support from programme modifications. patches other vendors software, core revisions that made odsolete its prior functions....the list is endless.
Light wave is not a complete product. You can do only parts of an animation. This software is just a gimic to sell more software plugins, filters, hundreds of other products.
Junk... Our studio spent 1000s before we caught on. your dreaming and there spending you dream.
Every product has its pros and cons, and some products might have better tools right out of the box for animation than Lightwave, but saying Lightwave is not a complete product is not true.
so far i have only used maya and lightwave, and to be honest they both have their issues and have a tendancy to fall on their faces. Cant say anything for 3dstudiomax however, but im guessing that it is also made by autodesk so i guess there might be some issues.
Though i have to say, it sucks that lightwave has issues with outputting as quicktime movies and hads to be rendered as png then manually loaded into quicktime as a sequence an so on.
Hmm well i've been using lightwave a bit lately and now i have to say i enjoy it more than maya now. Though it does like to crash a bit on mac's, luckily i have both the windows and mac versions.
that's a pretty detailed head for what looks like an hour or two of work. I'm wondering how you were able to add those segments and adjust them so quickly at the beginning? thanks
Great job! I'm proficient in a handful of programs and was thinking about trying out this software. Anyway, looks like you've got it under control! keep up the good work!
I'm thinking this is from lightwave 7 and possibly as old as 6. Good clip though. The airbrush can do a lot of things. In this video it's painting weight maps for subpatch weight to help define some of the hard edges.
Call me a noob, but what's the red and blue stuff you "spray" on the face near the end? I taught myself Lightwave and have no idea about some features of it.
how do you grab a point and move it? he starts with a box, and he takes a corner and moves it, but it effects the both right and left sides on the head.
WOW...omg...speechless o.O just watching the whole evolution and the way how you formed a basic object into something so...excellent is...WOW lol...that is a brilliant model, normaly i use 3ds max but i was gonna try out lightwave, i think that just seeing this has my mind made up
google lightwave tutorials. There's a site with over 70 tuts. Anyways, nice work. Lightwave is the easiest to use when it comes to modelling. You just need to use the move button a lot.
Hi i was wondering do you know any good tutorials for lightwave modeler, its just that im new to this program and in the future id luv to be able to do something like this. Thanks great work once again.
I'm actually not too familiar with Lightwave. I think the newtek(dot)com/lightwave/tutorials website is a good place to start. But I'm sure there's someone else who can post a good site for tutorials.
how did you extend the edges like that? All i can see is you pulling out extra polygons but i dont know what command your using

He's using the airbrush to add positive and negative (orange and blue respectively) weight to the subpatching

@Wakka12321 even though im a complete noob .i think its a weight map .but u might know that know since that comment was from last yr lol

is it game legal because if its not then it not that impressive does it have any N-gons, polys with 1,2 or more than 4 vertacies etc.
have you tried making any environments if so have you uplloaded any videos of them?
ianh16 3 years ago
even if it was game legal the poly flow would be all wrong if you tried to doo facial expressions
Jlowe258 3 years ago
@ianh16 Well you can't have a polygon with 1 or 2 vertices, and lightwave can't subpatch anything with more than 4.
zanychimp 1 year ago
@zanychimp you can have one point polys in lightwave.
multiverses2009 1 year ago
@multiverses2009 wow... that's just crazy! What could you do with a 1-point poly anyway?

man, this is 3DMax. watch?v=eYAWAK1_6Gw
The interface and the work way is more diferent.
And the SubPatch is only in LightWave and Modo.
In 3DMax I remember it has only MeshSmooth and TurboSmooth System.
