@Leygoes Decca label records were not made of the best material (the blue labels and brown 18000 series) They were fine when new but deteriorated rather quickly. Still very listenable, doesnt bother me a bit.
@BlueberryBurrito The reasoning behind that is because the song that made them famous had that intro, so they didn't want to change it in fear of losing their popularity, which is pretty sound reasoning considering the fact that they were an all black band working during the Great Depression.
Liked the sound track, and the attempt at creating an "aged" black & white film. Only problem is - film was expensive, so it's unlikely that anyone would waste 3 minutes of it filming a radio "doing nothing" close up. Love their "Whispering Grass", as well.
i dont know why people thumbs this down. its so naive to think the record noise gives it authenticity. A good recording captures what it was like to listen to it back in the day... as in when it was fresh and the records werent as worn.
Both ways are neat and nostalgic but alot of middleaged ppl only recognize the one way.
This is like my theme song

@1KIELS You have to remember that this was the time of the jukebox - it was so that you would know which group it was, like a musical signature.
djsuperbadd 8 months ago
@1KIELS there's a few different ones, and they happen to be my favs. "Swing high?" I think that's one, as well as "Christopher Columbus"

orriginally by duke ellington - lyrics by the inkspots i think
busessuck1 1 year ago
@busessuck1 I don't think the Inkspots wrote the lyrics, but it was a popular tune during the 30s and this is a nice, relaxed version.

My Dad was at dental school in the early 1950s and one of the students' drinking songs (to this tune) went :
"Missed the lavatory pan
P----ed all over the floor
cleaned it up with my toothbrush
Don't clean my teeth much any more"
