  • Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds is one of my favorite songs. All versions confunded. Both The Beatles and Elton are amazing <3

  • trivia!! john lennon actually guest starred on this song going under the alter ego Dr. Winston O'Boogie (winston being johns second name)

  • well, actually i like more the version of the beatles, but elton's version is better, we must admit it: elton have better voice than john or paul, and this version is better arranged and more powerful.

  • this was one of the first songs i ever listened to when i was a child, i use to think the beatles got this from elton when i was little, but then i knew the beatles did it first. I Love both versions

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • The best version is Elton's hands down.

  • sounds better! ha WTF Elton rocks the bitch

  • I prefer the Beatles :D

  • I personally think the best version is by Katie Melua. It is just amazing.

  • @justsmilehomie Thanks will check it out . Long to hear diff versions of a song etc. gives it more life. Like the Green Fields of France has many diff artist doing it , several good .

  • @mollymu1 You're welcome, write me what you think about Melua's version.

  • @justsmilehomie Decent, but lacks the emotional impact Elton's version has.

  • This song will always remind me of the summer of 1975 and all it brought with it. My first motorcycle, 10 dollar bags and losing my virginity. ALL good memories..lol.

  • i totally agree! elton does this song justice!!!

  • this version of lucy in the sky has more of a bellet to it and it brings back those good times in 1975 thanks for posting it

  • we had to listen to this song in health class wale they were teaching us about LSD and the dangers and all it made me want to do is go get a tablet of acid

  • @guitarsrock64 Actually, the song is said to be written after John Lennon looked in a picture made by his son of a girl flying in starry sky. The rest was the assumption of the listners...

  • i like the beatles version better just my opinion though but whats not an opinion that hearts the best band ever not an opinion its been proven just saying lolz!!!

  • Love both Elton and Beatles...Elton's slower tempo works and his keyboards are terrific. Beatles harmonies are hard to beat. Too bad they never got a chance to sing this song together.

  • @PierreLeCanadien john lennon did.type----( elton john& john lennon live lucy in the sky with diamonds).....its good song

  • This is just Horrible...

  • I agree Elton did a much better cover than the Beatles original

  • Wow.. guys, listen to this song when you are turned on (high).. Kills you.

    5 star to this.

  • I do like both versions...and there is a difference....10 years? When Elton John decided to do a remake, he called on John Lennon to help him record this..and yes, John sings the chorus....Also, keep in mind that technology in '67 was not the same until 10 years later, when the 24 track console came in. I do respect and admire both versions indeed ;)

  • Me too!! - as a life long Beatle Maniac - this is the only cover of a Beatles song that to me, is better than the original, Fantastic!!!!

  • i love elton and the beatles, he nailed it!!! I love this version its just different, elton john is a genius!

  • The introduction is fantastic, because of its lenght. Rest of this song is just nice cover of Beatles' masterpiece.

  • Was a fresh and nice version!

  • A fitting tribute to the Beatles. Elton couldn't help but add his own special brand of musical magic. That's why it sounds so damn good.

  • nah sorry guys the Beatles owned this ;)

  • @doorplease dont get me wrong it sounds cool

  • I like Beatles a lot but Elton's version is much better. Genius guy!!!!

  • I don't care which version tops the other. The solo (entrance, melody, exit) on this one is just fucking epic, period.

  • Yes, this version better than the Beatles with John backvocals, but the psychedelia of the song I do not think it is exceeded, origianl song always going to have a hint that the covers do not have

  • I just LOVE the intro!

  • the sweetness in that voice just takes it 2 number 1 O YEA

  • 12 people fell to earth

  • I am naming my daughter Lucie Sky<3

  • @cjknox00 You're naming her after a drug?

  • @gillesding thats like saying naming your son charlie is naming him after cocaine, grow up retard

  • Hey guys, john lennon has been on record saying he liked this version more.

Not saying elton john is better, but some people just do songs better than others.

  • This song while Expo Marker high... EPIC FEELING!

  • L-ucy in the

    S-ky with

    D-iamonds

LSD, the whole point of why the Beatles wrote it...

AND I STILL FIND IT EPIC!

  • @HJtheminer You do know the song is based off a picture John Lennon's son drew. Not a trip The Beatles had with LSD.

  • @LilDrummer77 Oop, alright, thank you for corecting me... XD

  • @HJtheminer why wouldn't you because of that? lsd is one of the most epic things i can think of :S

  • @xentech LSD is a terrible drug!

  • NO ONE IS TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE 'BEATLES'!! THEY WERE AN ''AWESOME'' GROUP THAT CHANGED THE FACE OF MUSIC!!! AN I ALSO THINK IT'S PRETTY COOL THAT ''JOHN LENNON'' WORKED WITH ELTON ON THIS!!

THEY BOTH ARE ARTIEST IN THERE OWN RIGHT, AN TO HAVE THEM TOGETHER IS ''GENUIS'' RESPECT!! THEM BOTH!! :)))

  • Sry ppl I rly like elton john, BUT the beatles u just cant beat.

  • @davidson2004fatboy...YOU BET ELTON'S VERSION IS KICK THE ''FUCK'' ASS''!! :))

  • Elton's version KICK'S ASS!!!

  • This is just too complex, the original is simple and harmonious.

  • the beatles version is much better

  • Most people who cover Beatles songs fail in one way or another - this however is a rarity - an improvement!! I think the only Beatles cover I can say that about!

  • John Lennon played in this version with Elton John

  • Okay, as a Beatles fan I'm pretty damn cynical about covers, but this was really awesome.

  • If only they had Lennon singing the lead over this music (perhaps with Elton as backing). Would have been THE BEST!

Love both versions, one of my favourite songs!

  • @HowitzerBug "In 1974, Elton John released a cover version as a single. Recorded at the Caribou Ranch, it featured background vocals and guitar by John Lennon under the pseudonym Dr. Winston O'Boogie (Winston being Lennon's middle name). The single topped the US Billboard pop charts for two weeks in January 1975 as well as the Canadian RPM national singles chart for four weeks spanning January and February"

  • I love both versions. As far as I'm concerned, both versions are awesome.

  • <3 love this version, I actually like it better than The Beatles and I know they made it famous BUT this sounds a lot better to me, so yeah love them both as artists though, of course

  • @gatitasata and don't forget that John Lennon collaborated on this version after graciously sanctioning Elton John to cover it...

  • @mkervelegan Hehe.. exactly he played the bass

  • @gatitasata no way! U can't get any better than the original of any song!

  • @felixtheboy1 I like this one better, and apparently others do too, so...yeah,

  • Even as a huge Beatle's fan I also have to agree this is the best version as well.

  • EVERY time I hear the Beatles version I do the fill ins to this version! :-) LLLLLLL LUCY ..are you kidding me?! so awesome!

  • @chefsu11715 LOL me too! someone said it was "too complex" but to me, it filled in the gaps of the original version, so to speak, besides I love Elton John's voice.. you can't get bettr than this as far as covers!<3

  • NOO NOO NOO WAY the beetles are my freaking idle and how dare this guy sing it

  • @jeuwood If you were such a huge fan you'd know how to spell Beatles. *eyeroll*

  • @jeuwood LOL the BEATLES are your idle...? learn to spell beatles and...Idols..? would you? thanks

  • Lenon played bass on this under the alias of Dr. E. pluribus funk

  • @doghous4 Really? I was sure it was Dr. Winston O'Boogie, may be wrong.

  • You all are correct in your observations about Lennon ; he was blown away by this rendition. Awesome for sure!

  • This song is actually dedicated to someone named Lucy.

  • @horsewhisperlad No... just no...

  • got something to make me happy, put on my headphones and ahhhhhhhhh

  • Look; every artist has a pallet. The man knew his Beatles. We all did.Lennon was being generous.Always consider the source.

  • for a cover.. its good.. i still prefer the original though... despite john lennon's quote.. this doesnt give me the feeling the original gave me

  • ELTON DID THIS SONG BETTER THAN THE ''BEATLES!!!!!

AN I AM A BEATLES FAN..BUT I JUST CALL IT LIKE I HEAR IT!!!!

  • @reichmuth100 OK THEN !!!!!!!!!

  • @reichmuth100 I agree . Maybe it's that you can improve on the mistakes made by the first . Feel the same way with Pinball Wizard . Both have so much more energy than originals . Goes to show you it's not all in the lyrics but the person who writes the music has just as much to do with the success. And preforms it of course .

  • I just melt at 2:45 . It just sounds so... perfect

  • I am a lucky bunny , I have a signed copy vinyl single got at Watford FC

  • better than the beatles by far

  • John Lennon played on this cover of the song he was credited as Dr. Winston O'Boogie

  • this song wasnt on this album..was it? shit and i'm a major fan! LOL peace great song!

  • When i die. I want this played at my funeral.

  • LOVE HOW ELTON DID SUCH JUSTICE TO THIS BEATLES SONG!! ''ELTON FOREVER!!:))))

  • @reichmuth100 Totaly agree I have a signed copy, no way is it going anywhere

  • Did you guys know this is about LSD, thats why it was band way back...

  • love this so much ♥

  • Elton John is the greatest! This version sounds alot better than the original...then again, I was inspired on piano by elton john on the piano. Greatest piano player ever.

  • i may be crossing the line here but i honestly like Elton Johns version a bit better.... :( maybe because its a bit slower and i can hear the great lyrics better :)

FWI- it kinda has a reggae tone to it at one point lol

  • Nice! I really that pseudo-reggae groove in the chorus.

  • I love the Beatles but I have to say Eltons version of this song blows the original away.....for me personally it is one of those moments in music I feel I could climb within the song and just exist forever floating.......it is just that good.....

  • Sir Elton did do it better!

  • I got a nice "Greatest Hits" Record of this.

  • The intro is the best part of the song...

    It's so magical...

  • @ericclapton36 One word, Harry Nilsson,

  • Elton ruled the 70S

  • My names Lucy, I'm totally random and talk about stuff like this all the time, my personal theme song <3

  • @cutelucylulu sooooooo...your on acid??? lol

  • Comment removed

  • A Masterpiece.

  • One of my faves from Elton, much prefer it to the Beatles version.

  • @3dwurli Amen to that.

  • Pretty ridiculous people are aruguing since John Lennon is playing is singing and playing on this too

  • Sir Elton nailed this sorry Beetles fans way better

  • No offense to Beatles fans....but I think this version is better.

  • wow hes done this well.

  • Comment removed

  • Mrnicco9 I do appreciate others opinions so I will not call you a stupid cocksucking unlearned fagot. Instead, I would jsut like to know how you arrived at your opinion?

  • @jason13204 ...psycho

  • @MrNicco9 No way, he made it better. Even John Lennon said he preferred this version to his own.

  • Sad. Tolls like a funeral bell.

  • Re :"disco cover by a black woman"- you might be thinking of the version of this song by Dianne Steinberg and Stargard on the Sergeant Pepper Soundtrack. Check it out. And this cover is far better than the original version; so is his cover of Pinball Wizard.

  • Does anyone remember a disco cover of this by a black woman from around the same time as this one? I have been looking for it for ages, it was surprisingly good...

  • @clarkbell you might be thinking of the version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on the Sergeant Pepper's Movie Soundtrack by Dianne Steinberg and Stargard.

  • This was one of Elton John's best ever. He did the Beatles justice.

  • LONG LIVE L.S.D.

  • @ZethShuffler

The song was not about LSD. It was about his child's drawing.

  • @WizardsMachine that absolutely correct, the drawing still exists to this day. His son and a classmate drew a picture of each other in the shy with the stars in the back ground. Stupid LSD conspiracy morons.

  • @WizardsMachine L.S.D.=Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. And it John lennon wrote the song while on Acid

  • @ZethShuffler no he wrote i am the walrus on acid but this song is partially about lsd and partially about the drawing i mean the letters LSD are in the name and capitalized.

  • Elton John is the Chuck Norris of the world of song covers.

  • Elton has a great way of doing a remake without hurting it...he is respectful

  • why cant it be about drugs and women in the sky

  • Best Beatles cover in my opinion, only I would have to say Elton even made the song better!

  • The criteria one should always follow when attempting to do a cover of any song is this: "Do it just as good, or better, or don't even bother." Elton did better on this one.

  • very better beatles' version!

    this sucks

  • @swayluss this is perhaps the best cover song ever done Sir Elton nails it.You nhave to be tone deaf!

  • so flawless..

  • the best cover ever !! I love this part 0:53 and 5:10

  • Thank`s!

  • totally true....Elton is the only one who can actually cover the them with a perfect style!

  • @Andrew598895 You sir are an idiot.

  • People making negative comments about this cover don't know how stupid they sound. This is one of the greatest covers of all time. Open your ears.

  • @Andrew598895 I sugest you look through his other songs he isn't known as the queen of england for nothing lol!

  • @Andrew598895 Is this your first time listening to Elton John?

  • Elton was at the height of his powers when he cut this.

  • beatles version is better

  • @gringolazlo well yeah, they wrote the original. Originals are always better, but you must admit this version is still pretty legit

  • @Andrew598895 You need knew speakers :P

  • Not just a great cover - one of the best songs of all time.

  • john actually he said he like this version better than his own

  • @wonka8880 I didn't want to say that in case I upset somebody but hey, if John said it now I don't feel so bad. I have to agree with him there.

  • Sir Elton hit #1 in Billboard, 1-4-75. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • considering how goofy lennon's solo work was i wouldn't be surprised if he made an attempt to put reggae in here but it seems more like a pause to a songs build-up. that is not a reggae trait. every 7th grade music teacher tries to say black goons invented everything. did they invent the european church bells in here too? i love those bells so much.

  • the beatles song sounds so old but a few years this polished version came out but sounds at least a decade newer than the bealtles version. i'm suprised to find out this was made in 1972. sound more mid 70s.

  • To all you Teurling Catholic Rebels alumni, Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns fans, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers (me included), and Cleveland Browns fans: This was the #1 song in the USA when Jake Delhomme came into the world.

  • This is the first Elton John song I remember and it is the first one I fell in love with in 1972 (college freshman). I know my roomate hated me for years because I played this song over and over all night. I heard the Beatles original only a few years ago.

  • No it's not the origional, but it's f****g cool. Lighten up dude

  • this is the original dumbass

  • @nameless4284 try again, ever heard of a band called the beatles ??

  • This is a great song (better than the original), but it wasn't on the original Captain Fantastic album; it was released first as a single. And Philadelphia Freedom wasn't on that album, either, nor do I remember One Day At A Time being on it. And Pinball Wizard wasn't on the Caribou album.

  • @henrymoonfortune - a good number of Elton John's cds have been released with "bonus tracks" on them that weren't on the original vinyl releases. One of them even has "Step Into Christmas." I don't remember Philadelphia Freedom or LSD being on albums until way later.

  • @fairfax1960 Point taken. I didn't mean to start a controversy. My bad, though, since I didn't know there were bonus tracks on the CD. Of course, that lack of knowledge doesn't make me a dumbass, as some authentic dumbasses would have you believe.

  • I actually heard this version before I heard the Beatles' version...and prefer this one. I heard it right before Christmas one year and every time I hear it , it still reminds me of Christmas! But this is a really well- produced song if you listen closely!
