  • This is beautiful! I have no idea how I ended up here, but I'm glad I did.

Also, I totally forgot what I was actually searching for. Is this what you call "baffled"?

  • This is a really original interpretation of this old song. I never thought it would work with such a slow tempo, but it sounds great. Good job!

  • Love this version. Wish you'd do a bit more uptempo one, though. (Though not as fast as the Clancy bros' version.) =)

  • A lovely surprise! Thanks to whomever posted it over on Boards.ie!

  • Beautiful voice..beautiful song.

  • Fantastic original sound.

  • i live in a city called limeira, but is in the giant hot brazil :( it's not Limerick in the wonderful and cold Ireland. :(

  • Great performance of a great song..the lyrics are written about me or so I like to think....I just cannot express how much I love this video..

  • Kevin, you have found the certain measure for this song. Very good.

  • Love this song you do it very well.

  • Great stuff. You have a fantastic voice mate, similar to the great Ronnie Drew (RIP). I really love this song, it has such a wonderful melody. One minor criticism. The guitar sounds a bit off. Did you record it before on a different track? I'd get someone to play along with you or if you play, just play while you sing...still it's no big deal, the whole thing sounds pretty damn decent!!! Thanks for posting!

  • excellent

  • excellent lovely voice any cds out

  • Like Pyro8 I love your interpretation, it gives me cold sense in my belly, like if it was Ewan who sing it... Just dislike the electronic impression of the music in "fond de chanson".

  • This is really good man! You skipped a couple of verses when you posted the lyrics though...

  • Brilliant!

  • Yes, perfect.

  • Awesome arrangement & vocals!

  • WoW in reply. Thanks.

  • fantastic

  • great song

  • love this from askeaton know all the places mentioned brill voice

  • I love this song, i enjoy it sung faster but it suits this slower version very much, i love this version

  • This is precious!!! Thank you very much :)

  • it cant get any better!!!

  • 5/5

  • I think the song suits being sung slightly faster, it matches the tone of it better.

  • Love to hear you if you Play in Dublin..where do ya post ur tour dates??This is a such good song and brilliantly preformed..

  • There's only one good thing ever to come out of Limerick. And that's this rake. Well done, Caoimhín!

  • wat bout the cranberries

  • Comment removed

  • well done matie

  • fair play to you pal, great version.....

  • thats a brilliant version.

ur voice is so distant and haunting!

maith an fear thu fhein a mhac

  • I'm Speechless, thanks for everything you do regarding this genre - My true appreciation could never be expressed.

  • Thanks for that - I really love this song and comments from musicians such as yourself are more than appreciated.

  • an old hidden classic i used to sing a lot...being from limerick myself was often wondering why this song is rare..its brilliant..maybe thats where it is best kept..beautiful version

  • Thanks a million. When I play this song live people always ask me 'why' they haven't heard it before that much - it deserves better versions than mine, but your appreciation pleases me very much.

  • i have no words for this..its just beautiful.

  • Thanks a million.

  • Brill sound I have saved this video to my page if thats ok keep that Fantastic sound going.

  • Very okay! Thanks for the feedback!

  • Damn brilliant. Sometimes drums and vocals are not entirely together, but overall, it´s one of the best renditions I´ve ever heard.

  • Wow - you put a smile on my face!

  • You sure are welcome :-)

Part of it may be effects (sounds like slight reverb on your voice), but certainly not entirely.

I don't like how many songs are sung too slow, yet technically brilliant(very often Celtic woman and that kind). Yet this proves that with voice which has character (or balls :-)), it can sound very well too!

  • fantastic voice have not heard such a voice in years Brill keep that sound comming Kevin.

  • just beautiful!

  • Clever how you keep the attention (Spannung).

  • I really enjoy your confident, smooth vocals. Keep them coming!

  • Very nice Kev.

    Cheers from Tom (the abusers)

  • Excellent version, well sung. I agree, you very rarely hear this song. I am from Limerick originally but now live in San Francisco, I remember a local band used to play it in bars in Limerick. Great voice, and keep up the good work

  • Nice one!

I heard this years ago by the Dubliners - a little faster, but not capturing the minors in the tune as well as you do. I think I'll add this to my own repertoire!

    thanks a lot.

  • love this song and u, do it so well,

  • Sehr schön gemacht :)

  • i love this song do you have the tabs?

  • The lyrics are in the box and there are only two chords in the whole thing. I use a Capo pretty high up (in the 5th box) but it sort of depends how much I had to drink the night before. The chords are just alternating Am/G. Nothing more to it. Hope this helps!

  • Love it. Would like to be able to sing like this...

  • Thanks very much - nice comment!

  • great stuff, fair play to ya kevin!

  • Thanks very much.

  • Brilliant rendition....

  • Thanks!

  • this is relly good!

  • Thanks a lot - glad you liked it!

  • Oh my god I love this song and have never heard it in English!!! The only recording I had was in gaelic(?perhaps?)

It's beautiful. Thanks so much for posting!!!

  • Now that's interesting!!!!!! I did not know there's is a Gaelic version! Thanks for the tip and for the nice comment!

  • This rocks! You've got a great voice!

    5*

    --Matt

    Thanks for checking this out!

  • Pretty Damn Good!

  • Thanks a lot for watching!

  • very nice, quite emotional

  • Thanks Tommy. I really love singing this song, I suppose that helps the emotion!

  • you see im english but im distantly irish in one sense, Mcloughlin the surname. Maybe you could do a cover off whiskey in a jar by thin lizzy make it your own and in a style

of your own aswell and o well if you dont but it is just a sugestion thankyou for bringing such music to youtube hope you reply thanks

  • wow this is great man you got a damn good voice I'm so used to the pogues version and hearing this one done with class and such subtlety. it's great can't stop listening to it five stars my friend. This version really soothes me when I listen to it. i can close my eyes and feel real peaceful thanks man great song! you got mp3's of this? if so i would love to have it.

  • Hi there, thanks for the kind words - cheered me up this morning. If you want sound files of any of my songs, just send me an email address and I'll email you!

  • Beautiful! Must favorite this one! Love it!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • What a voice!...What a voice!...My God, What a voice!!!

  • What a comment :o)

Seriously, thanks a lot for the comment!

  • I cannot stop listening to this video, your voice has such a rich tone, not to mention the fact that the song truly holds its own. Are you playing the guitar track also?

  • Thanks for the kind words LaceyDaze!

To answer your question, I do indeed play guitar on the track. The chords for the guitar are extremely simple though (2 chords). I recorded everything first and then tried to do the vocals 'live' for the video.

I'm really happy you like the end product :o)

  • Gorgeous noise, nice hat too...

  • Thanks a lot. The hat is very important in my general success I fear and will become more so, unfortunately.

  • Man you've got one helluva voice! :O Me likes!

  • You have cheered me up an awful lot today!

  • Oh this is just brillinat!! Brilliant to hear this on St Patricks day!! Fantastic!! 5 stars, Tamara xx

  • Thanks Tamara! Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

  • Happy St Patricks Day!! Tamara xx

  • I think this is my favorite song! Incredible voice. *Sandy*

  • Thanks again Sandy! This does seem to be a lot of people's favourite! Thanks again for all the positive feedback!

  • brilliant what a voice

  • Thanks Adam!

  • Very much enjoyed your version of it. I think it has a more haunting quality that I like more than others I've heard. You have a good voice that is well suited to the song.

  • Thanks for that! Glad you liked it!

  • dresden!....and you!.....it says you are somewhere in the ol deutschland töö

  • I'm south of you in Nürnberg - I'm normally in Dresden once a year for one reason or another - I'll send you a message the next time and if you're around, we can maybe organise a pint if you're up for it! Take care.

  • excellent.......you can hear the perfectness of soul in your heart and your tones and accents are excellent....from a bray man in germany to you!thank the gods there are more generations of us irish that have what it takes to be excellent!i thought that skill of heart and soul was lost in the celtic tiger economy.....at least some of us escaped to save the best for last!hope you are rich from your excellence!till next time!go raibh maith agat

  • Thanks for the kind comments - where are you in Germany?

  • That's beautiful mate. Makes me wish I had an Irish accent to sing it properly. Alas, I'm more influenced by the Scot side of my family.

5* and a subscription for you!

  • Thanks Jim - thanks very much for watching and commenting and subscribing!

  • wow never herd this song before you sang it brill my mum is from rathkeal next time she comes to my house i will play her this well done.

  • This is fantastic. Reminds me of home. Cheers bud.

  • Dude this isn't really irish music, its false commericial crap. Lose the accent

  • Lose the accent I was born with? Fair enough.

  • the man done very well, so give over

  • He's an okay singer but this is shite irish music

  • no its not, its an all time great if you listen to it. Its been around for years so its more irish than you

  • Go fuck yourself, dont question my patriotism. Yeah and Daneil O'Donell has been around for years so I suppose he is more irish than you?

  • Well it just shows u dont know much about irish music if you call this song "not really irish music". Its a clinker song

  • I'm afraid I dont understand the term 'clinker song' but I wholeheartedly disagree. I still stand by what I said in the first comment. This is 'eurovision export' Irish music, instead of the true stuff

  • You obviously havn't a clue

  • i have to say....this performance is not!

and i am a critic normally like you deargdoom07!

but the only thing plastic about this performance is the fact that the musician declares in the description that he has not yet been seen by youtube members in any of his music vids--so he was probably not giving the purness of singing a fair go because he was concentrating on giving him what his fans wanted--but i will tell you as a musician and singer-this performance was unique

  • With all due respect...rubbish! I used to sing this song over 30 yrs. ago in the very many pubs I frequented at that time!! The only difference was I sang..her being from the mountains, her stockings were white and I'd love to be tightenin' her garters!!

    Great song and great rendition!

  • That song's been around for as long as I can remember. This arrangement does make it sound more commercial I'll agree, but there's room for all sorts.

  • awesome! i love it and i'm irish

  • Very nice to hear - thanks!

  • LOL

  • I live in Germany but I wasn't born here. Maybe I should update my profile.

  • Wow I absolutely love this song-and your version is fantastic. I have had many good holidays in Ireland and this song takes my thoughts back there. Thankyou for posting.

  • Thanks for watching and for the comment!

  • Didn't know this, Kevin. You really have an awesome voice.

And I love how you pronounce "rrrrrake" :-)

  • :o)

  • Wow. I. seriously I love your voice and *happy sigh* There's such, emotion there... Well done. As always, I adore it.

  • Thanks Kathaleen - really nice to read your kind words! O really appreciate them!

  • For some reason yt search only works by entering "Pentangle" exclusive of titles.

Ausschließlich "Pentangle" eingeben, sonst führt die Suche zu nichts - ein Rätsel.

  • Sehr schoen...tolle Stimme...passt genau !!!

  • Wow - danke schön!

  • Bin hin und weg - habe das Lied schon immer gerne gehört, aber mit deiner Stimme ist es einfach nur toll! Weiter so, bin gespannt auf Weiteres...

  • Danke!

  • gute arbeit ...gefällt mir

  • Danke!

  • Your voice fits this song very nicely! Lovely!

  • Thanks Leesha - I am always happy to receive your comments! I hope you had a nice Christmas & New Year.

  • Very nice Kevin, keep up the good work! More Irish songs please. Oh, and I got the CD and have enjoyed listening to it. Cheers!

  • More Irish songs? An interesting request and one I will have to put some thought into! Glad to hear you got the CD!

  • VERY good!

  • Thank you!

  • Nicely done man. Honestly I find the song is better minus any instruments and if done a little quicker, but you've given it your own style, which is great. Cheers!

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch - one or two people I know have also said something similar (as they know the Dubliners version) but there you go. I am not (alas) The Dubliners (or Shane!). Happy New Year!

  • So beautiful Kevin !

You're very talented and I admire your way of singing...Thank you !

Little heart pressed and ***** for this !

    Thomas

  • Our 'deal' looks more and more sure every day! ;O)

  • A real achievement in memorization, Kevin. I could never remember so many lines or sing it straight in one take without tripping up somewhere. It's both acting and singing (like opera!). Nice job, great sound, deep song.

  • If you can keep a secret, it was not the first take and ... between verses I did sneak a look at some notes that were (by chance) lying idly by. Out secret, okay?

  • Your secret is safe with me ;-)

  • ..and me ;)

  • may I have your autograph?!

    :-))

    cheers, ww

  • If you give me yours :o)

  • very VERY good voice... and a nice hat : ) big orange button pushed!

  • Wow - thanks a lot for that (and for watching).

  • wonderful as always!

there is something about your voice...it's not raspy...but it has a kick to it...something amazingly unique!!
