If you like this and think Black Adder is funny, check out the entire series. This is a one-off special but the series had many episodes and covered 4 time periods. 5 if you count the Christmas Special.
Out of the whole Blackadder mythos, The Cavalier Years is my absolute favourite. It's amazing in that it packs more wit, character, plot and sharp dialogue in FIFTEEN MINUTES then Curtis and Elton packed into all the other half-hour classics they wrote. And that's truly remarkable.
i remember being able to watch this video without commercials...i believe thats what internet is for for shit sakes, a verry big F*CK YOU to youtube, .........BTW BLACKADDER KICKS SERIOUS ASS
Oleg McNoleg. Now, that's a name I would use as a joke for years, but didn't realise until seeing this again, all these years later, just exactly where it originated from! Wee Jock McPoo-plop, was another one. Classic.
@The Davelogan but all of these were two separate families or persons not ideologies like the Roundheads and cavaliers, the White and Red Russians and the Unionists and Confedorates.
If we get technical about it, England had more than one Civil War. There was the Anarchy when Matilda went to war with King Stephen and then there was the war of the Roses. Or do those not count for some complicated reason?
This civil was different. It ended Royalty rule and Parliament ruled soon to be Britain. It was the beginning of democracy. Think about it, some countries are currently fighting similar wars at the moment. Some with violence and some without..
I don't think the Stephen/Matilda thing really counted. They represented factions in a scramble for power on the death of Henry 1 - a bit like rival street gangs. The mass of ordinary people did not get involved, in the sense of taking sides. Much the same can be said for the Wars of the Roses.
@TheDavelogan I think it just makes it simpler for Blackadder to ignore them. "Only three Civil Wars in the history of England, and I'm on the wrong side of the one that's happening now..." doesn't sound as good a gag...
I love this show...at first I thought it was just a standup of his, but then i came to see it was a series..and I love it. I don't wanna ruin anything *SPOILER* But I like how each season the time period changes.
