When the Devils moved to New Jersey the came to an area already surrounded by 4 other NHL teams. Of course NJ's attendance is going to be less! Ugh, can we all just drop the attendance shit already? First off, Rangers are an orig. 6 team, they have 5th generation fans. They play in one of the biggest cities in the world. When the Devils moved to New Jersey the came to an area already surrounded by 4 other NHL teams. Of course NJ's attendance is going to be less! The ONLY THING that the Rangers have on the Devils is average attendance. As a matter of fact, the only reason the Rangers have had all those sellout crowds is all the season tickets sold to corporations. Just look at the lower deck at MSG and try to count the guys in ties with their BlackBerries or iPhones. This is unlike the Devils, where you can just look at the crowd and see almost every single person in the stands has something with the "NJ" Monogram and is actually into the game.

i know this is a bold comparison, but i often like to think of the devils-rangers rivalry as the yankees-red sox of hockey. in my case, since i'm a yankee fan, the devils are the yankees and the rangers are the red sox.
and yes, i know the hudson river rivalry is not nearly as big as the yankees and red sox. but still, you have to look back on the history between the two teams, from the 1994 conference finals to the 2006 quarterfinals.
