  • Ok you totally sold me on your pickups. Ive made one cigar box guitar, and I have the maetrials for a second one, and Ill be putting one of your pickups on it. Great video, and great playing!

  • Sounds great! Is it possible to make a 6 string version of this?

  • This is awesome man, I love stuff like this. Its great to see someone else whos this passionate about music. Purely awesome. Keep makin and jammin them man SOUNDS GREAT!!!! Rock on ~Bertling~

  • @Bertling88 thanks!

  • Fantastic! really great sound and you play very cool stuff! I want to make a cigar box ukulele myself but I was wondering how you know where to put the frets. Is there a mathematical method or do you use another guitar for it?

  • @DJimB0 thanks

  • @DJimB0 hey iust google CALCULATING FRET POSITIONS and you will be well on your way!

  • super sound what do u tune to for 4 strings ?

  • @sonnywentling open G: G D G B

  • which tunings would you recommend for a 3 string?

  • @leapinlueschen DAD i guess it's pretty good. Anyway, any tuning you choose, just tune the first and last in the same notes, if you're using a slide.

  • @leapinlueschen whatever you want but generally GDG or ADA

  • What did you use to make the pickup I'm going try and make one like that

  • Robert Johnson meets Rock n Roll

  • good work again Blues Boy Jag

    Jarmo

  • incredibly good feel & sound! very inspiring! I ow want to build a cigar box guitar myself!

  • sounds pretty damn good too haha

  • cool ...

  • It ain't but a thang, if it AIN'T A CIGAR BOX! You guys need to realize this it americana. The sound just isn't as 'real' if it ain't a cigar box! This is GREAT man and awesome job! We'll hafta hook up and get 'miserable' together sometime! :-)

  • Smokycaster (r)? Sounds way COOL

  • How much?????

  • maybe you should lower your prices.

  • lol i kno huh

  • i need some help. I just made a guitar from a tin box, its the same basic build as a cigar box guitar.

Is there anything besides guitar tuning pegs i could use. Would ukulele tuners hold up to the steel strings?

    please help me

  • They probably would. You could test it on a board and and put strings on it and see if it holds up. Or you could just drill through a screw and have that as a tuner peg. Just have a screw driver if it's out of tune.

  • i would like to use a screw, but how would i attatch the string to the screw without it coming off?

  • Either try drilling through the screw (which would be hard) or use a hook. A screw at the bottom but with a loop on top. You would need pliers to tune it though.

  • sure they would hold up. check out one of my canjo's at hoo doo canjo, u-tube. I use double headed nails for tuners. I use fishing string..

  • Oh man, that sounds awsome! Great job. I'm building a sort of biscuit tin banjo thing at the moment, but now I'm gonna electrify it!

  • damn it's incredible that a guitar can be made like this. there expensive and that looks real cool and cheap. awesome sound too.

  • Good tone. Sounds great. The silde sustain is impressive. Overall the sound is great. High pitched but good. I think you did a great job on the pickup.

  • Cool Man, that is a fine instrument. I recognized your name from the yahoo group. Check out my CBG post if you get a chance.

  • Wow, you must make an killing off of this! :) I'm gonna buy a CBG w/case and amp for my dad for his 46th birthday. He'll love it!

  • yup, just like wire frets do ;)

  • wont the toothpick frets wear out after a bit?

  • you rock man... cheers from a new guitar builder in the uk

  • tracing a neck and a bolt

  • 1.How did u calculate fret placement

    2. What is the tailpiece made of

  • search for an online fret calculator

  • i feel like an ass now...right after i posted the question. u answered it..lol. thanks!

  • do you use top 4 strings? or bottom 4? and whats the tuning? i'm in the process of building my own. you do nice work!

  • your technique is masterful! thats the way i like it:) 5 stars!

  • i will make a slide show of mine and i will show yhou mine it is called mitchell's cigar box guitar

  • That guitar kicks ass.

  • what strings did you use???

  • electric guitar strings

  • becasue i made a cigar box guitar for an assignment for music and i used four stings and they are fishing line and when i play right u no how u play and your left hand is pressing down on the strigs well my doesnt make any noise and how did you buld and electric becasue mine is and acoustic

  • great great thing ya got there man i collect odd instraments wonderin if it could get some instructions on how ta make one of those? and um why a glass slide aside from it looks cool? and if ya dont mind me askin a whole lotta questions how exactly did ya go about makein that pickup? a place where i can find the answers are just as good as the answers themselves

  • well...Im not sure about the other ones but a glass slide makes a different sound than a metal one. Its smoother and warmer sound.

  • Nice!

  • cigar box guitars are folk art! Wow, yours has frets too, good job. A lot of people just use a slide. You can't get better dirty blues than an electric CBG

  • sounds great!!!

  • i would have to imagine that it doesn't have a good acoustic sound

  • why would you have to imagine that?

  • a small cigar box, then again, it probably has great acoustics

  • In general if it sounds good electrified, it sounds good acoustically. These are not meant to be acoustic instruments as my customers demand a pickup, cutting holes in them and adding a pickup just increases the feedback :) An electric guitar is just a piece of wood with strings on it and so is a cigar box guitar, no rocket science here :)

  • Take a look at my "midnight delta sessions" vid and see if you build a proper one they do sounds great, even ackousticly

  • man I think these guitars are fuckin awesome! Something completely different and traditional. Po Boy Blues! To each his own.. schlooterhead knows his shit!

  • Hahaha sorry i didnt mean to dis Scooterhead, his guitars are great
