Thank you for showing us this song. I had always wanted to play it. You missed the most important thing though ... you should've displayed how one strums this song. As you can tell, the strum is very unique and different than other songs. I almost have it down, but can't seem to keep up on speed just yet.
Like I have said before....I don't play guitar. Can't read notes, but I have always been able to sing them and played coronet by sound back in the day. I appreciate music. I LOVE your guitar playing immensely. I could listen for days on end. Thank you so much for displaying your talent. It means so much to me and many others. words cannot express how much I dig this. :) you have NO idea. :D
Thanks for another great lessson. The chord at 4:15 of your video is a D 9th. Root is on the the 5th string. Beatles used it a lot, Another Girl comes to mind, but you are right , James Brown used it in every tune.
@privettricker Lots of 9th chords in "Till There Was You" too. C9, F9, D9, and a Db9 thrown in on the solo. That is a really cool song, by the way. I love the jazzy chord progressions they used on it.
Nice job on This Boy! The octave stuff George did at the end of that song as you nicely demonstrated sounds very jazzy for such a simple technique. He also used that same technique when playing John's "harmonica riff" on Please Please Me when the Beatles played that song live.
@tbird2591 yeah that's a fun chord, you can substitute it for the dom 7th , which is why he goes to D7 the second time around . it's a nice thing to add into a 2 5 1 when you mess around with jazz tunes
Hi. I found your channel a few weeks ago and since then I've spent all my evenings watching and trying to play along. Your skill at figuring out guitar parts is amazing. I've been playing for 30 years but I can't do that. You are teaching me a LOT. Thanks! Keep the vids coming. And please keep doing explanations at the end like you’ve been doing lately. Oh, the chord at 4:15 is a movable 9th, root on A string. SRV made a career from that chord!
9th are used a lot in Jazz music, the Allman Bros used 9th in "Stormy Monday" George was a person who liked Jazz Chords, fantastic cover by the way, you would make a great teacher.
@privettricker not before I recorded them onto my hard drive usuing real player they didn't! I was lucky and smart to get all your Hendrix covers----Thanks PT!
@privettricker oh and one last thing, that lennon D chord is still just a regular D, it's just replacing the open D note with another F#, but it's not adding or taking away anything new, it's still R 3 5 .
NIce cover, PT. The end of the middle eight has my favorite "Lennon wail" - classic. Name of chord = D7add9. Wah-wah whenever ya get the chance, please.
.great song and performance.thanks a lot for the tutorials in your videos, the description of chords and the key along with music theory and the way the artist usually play chords is really great.keep up the great work!

Yup, a D9. By the way, when you put your pinky two frets down on the high E string, it's called a D13 chord. That's in most James Brown songs.
TheVasicist 3 months ago
What a great bridge by John. It's funny how often their bridge section would make the whole song. Happens in No Reply too.
