Pato has extremely good feet for a goal keeper, and of course this is a great goal kick. He does do it a bit differently from the average goal keeper. You should really watch several different goal keepers like this if you would want to judge the normal technique for this kick.

That's not how I was taught to take a goal kick. He leans a lot and his plant foot is very close to the ball, especially as he seems to be sliding across the turf as his right foot swings through. Confusing, as I'm struggling myself to get distance on my kicks and I'm looking on the internet for some consistent guidance.
technincally he did it correctly. The lean is something that he properly devoloped as it allows more power as it shifts most of your weight to the kick. I tried it for fun and it does increase your distance and power, but it will vary from person to person i think, and it can be dangerous to lean that far on one leg as you can severly injure a mucle (ligament or tendon)
How should your ankle be when kicking a goalkick or just in general when trying to kick it far, say from sweeper to striker?? Should it be locked as far as it goes??? (his foot is blur in vid)

@SumFallGrace 90% of the time? are you sure? don´t be an ignorant, the only who use their hands are the goalkeepers and just when they catch the ball wich is shot with the FOOT. haven´t you seen a soccer match at least one time? another thing is RUGBY. if you´re talking about rugby be more specific next time becuase in the real football the ball is used by foot like a 95% in all the match.

@SumFallGrace Well, I wouldn't call them stupid. They're just using the nickname we made up, so we didn't get Association Rules Football confused with Rugby Rules Football. Association Rules Football = Assoc. = Soccer.
While American Football is nonsensical, them calling football soccer is actually logical. There's no need to be so harsh, while living in Chicago/Minneapolis/NYC I have met many very smart Americans, no doubt smarter than someone who doesn't know the origin of the word 'soccer'.

That's not how I was taught to take a goal kick. He leans a lot and his plant foot is very close to the ball, especially as he seems to be sliding across the turf as his right foot swings through. Confusing, as I'm struggling myself to get distance on my kicks and I'm looking on the internet for some consistent guidance.

technincally he did it correctly. The lean is something that he properly devoloped as it allows more power as it shifts most of your weight to the kick. I tried it for fun and it does increase your distance and power, but it will vary from person to person i think, and it can be dangerous to lean that far on one leg as you can severly injure a mucle (ligament or tendon)
