hahahah 6:02 through 6:04 you see George look at Ringo and think " you dent change all these years." that's cute. awwww and the thing with John being close to him that's sad...
@scoundrel555 because his eyes are sensitive to light like many other people. when he took off his glasses in the first half of this show he was squinting because light hurts his eyes. its a fairly common condition especially people born in an era where there wasn't much medical technology and couldn't be caught and corrected early.
To all the thick bastards- it quite clearly states that this interview is from 1988. Why are you mentioning 1970? Thats when the beatles split up. This interview is from 1988. Jesus Christ.
@madintodogs Yea,it was "rumored" that George announced to Ringo and whoever was listening that he was in fact in love with Maureen(Ringo's 1st wife),I wanna say it was in The Beatles Anthology book.
@QueenBeatlesWings In Pattie Boyd's book she said that George and Maureen (Ringo 1st wife) had an affair. So their friendship is pretty strong in order to overlook that.
George was really nice and relaxed here. I always think he acts a lil defensive and humorus for defensive reasons but here he was just laid back and himself.Ringo was a bit nervy I think but slowly relaxed too.Where did thise accents come from though lol? They dont sound Liverpudlian hardly!
Ringo Starr comes across as a bit of a self-satisfied yob in this thing.
By contrast, George Harrison comes across as what I've always thought he was: a kind, decent, sensitive, brilliantly artistic human being who I've admired for a long time and who deserves genuine remembrance.
"Ringo" fans.... I hope U will check out the video for my song " RINGO ". It's a very retro video with Beatleish touches. It was done as a labor of love and with the utmost respect for the Fabs. The song and video is my attempt at putting a little bit of the Beatle spirit out there for Beatle fans. It's also my tribute to George Harrison's slide playing as well as Ringo's unique style.
@QueenBeatlesWings I also am pretty sure they're prescription sunglasses and that his eyes are sensitive to light. Such a shame--best blue eyes in the world.
@scoundrel555 Prolly because he doesn't think his beady eyes don't match his cool laidback image, but his sunglasses make him look the way he wants to look
This is very interesting - it shows two long term, very close friends with humor and respect for each other. George and Ringo are so easy going - they seem like every day people.
So cool... Thanks for posting - b.t.w. the copyright year appears to be 1987.
That comment that George made that he would be a better guitarist now if the Beatles had not happened is very revealing. In a way, he spent those years augmenting John and Paul's songs. A lot of it was within a quite tight framework of what a Beatle pop song was supposed to sound like. Either Paul or George Martin would often tell George exactly what to play. He wasn't asked to innovate or to stretch his abilities necessarily.
what inspires me about this video is the reason that i have always been into the beatles.there is and always was a depth there, but without the heaviness. that is where the challenge is. facing the truths, the heavy truths of life, without going crazy and getting bogged down. there is the challenge. how to remain buyant and positive, when all around you, things seem to be not so positive. and that is the challenge. both of these guys use humor, and spirituality to remain happy and positive
"Someone broke into my house and stole a pair of pink pyjamas"
"That was me"
This is the most relaxed and funny interview with any of the surviving Beatles that I've seen. Just fix the syncing of sound and vision and it'll be a keeper.
Ringo is soooooo funny!!!!!!! and George is funny as well!!!!! when you put them together, hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Ringo really makes me smile!!!!! and George with the APPLE APPLE! thing, so true!!!!hahaha
i was 7 when george died and i remember my dad coming in and sitting me down and telling me. I loved George Harrison then and i do now. it makes me feel sick when all those sick people in the world like child abusers are still alive and a world treasure isn't. life can be a bitch
No, George was closer to Lennon, look at the footage of them writing that anti-Paul song in the 70's with Phil Spector and you'll see. Ringo was kinda neutral.
from george's death i can only remember the concert for george i was 9 ... i cried so much when my dad said it's for george harrison ..i asked why? ..he died ..i was shoked ..i realized 1 year later
I watched a tribute band called rain and they were actually pretty good.i've always wanted to meet a beatle, but i'm a true fan to john when it comes to music, ringo about personality and humor.i bet ringo could have also been an actor or comedian
George passed away when i was 11, i remember him being on the news vaguely, but i have listened to The Beatles my whole life, since i can remember thanks to my gramma and dad :)
i am the same i was 11 when george died i cant even remeber it on the news i can remember when he got stabbed i was about 9 then but i am a massive fan of the beatles now i kniew of them and john who doesnt i wish i could see them perform live who knows maybe someday i will with all the technollogy these days
Ringo is an absolute genius of comedy throughout this whole interview! Give me a pint or an ounce of whatever he was taking in those days. Far funnier than I've ever seen him.
George died when I was... About 8, I belive. And I think I always knew about The Beatles, because who doesn't sing the chorus of Yellow Submarine now and then? I knew about them vaguely, but I didn't really care. I regret that now.
Same here. It is actually a big regret of mine that I will never get to see The Beatles. If I could, I would go back to the sixties, but of course, that is completely impossible.
it made me kind of sad when George was talking about death because it reminded me that he, too, was gone now, but it also made me happy to know that he felt this way about it. I think Ringo has a lot of self confidence. He is so funny!
I get were you're coming from (sorta), but the guy tried to kill himself AFTER the break up for the simple reason he thought he wasn't good enough. (granted he was drunk at the time but still) Not getting down on you and I don't wan't it to seem like I'm picking a fight cause I'm not. All I'm saying is alcoholism =/= self confidence. And yeah, I agree, he's alot better now, but he wasn't until after this interveiw, he's just drunk.
yeah I agree with you-he's improved. He isn't as quiet as he used to be-which may have to do with alcoholism like you said. like he said "I love cameras"...lol
Well, he want into rehab not long after this, and you know, went though the nessacary steps to recover. He wasn't loud and obnoxious here because it was his personality, he was cause he was drunk. Before he became an alcoholic his houmor was alot more deadpan/laid back. Like it is now.
Sure! But, Hmm, I have an interveiw from his first wife, Maureen and it goes into detail, but it is over 500 characters, but If you'd like, I can message it to you!
@ponypride111 I'm sorry. I know I'm late in this but Ringo almost did that to himself after he and the guys seperated? OMG poor guy. That would've been very tragic. :( Thank God he'd gotten help and seems to be doing great. I adore him.
the part where George says "when they stopped doing it, we started putting it in our own coffee" made me laugh SO HARD!! He was such an amazing man, RIP
Is it possible for them to crack you up more??? I love them!!!! Miss John and George<3 the part where the talked about John was sad... But I think that John loved Ringo's fake crying. Love the Beatles!!!!!!! Peace and Love!
I remember this interview when it first aired in 1988, I was 11, and I haven't seen it since then, and a lot of things from this interview I remember, but I don't remember Ringo being so drunk...
Watch "The Kids Are Allright", Ringo and Keith Moon were mates. Ringo went to his ex-wife, when she was dying of cancer, in Virginia Mason Hospital. He is as sweet as George. Maybe that is why they connected so much in the Beatles. Ringo and George are my favorites. They always looked the most youthful.
Huge Beatles fan-Ringo does seem a bit off in this interview, not in a bad way....just a little tipped. His interviews in Beatles Anthology seem more, well, sober. Peace.
In his early Beatle days, George would speak with a very thick Liverpool accent. Now,he appears to be very articulate and speaking with a very careful British accent.
Ringo and George ae great Musicans when they were in the Beatles and thier Solo carrer. I miss George as he was one of the greatest Beatle and same as John he was the best. But Ringo will always be my favorite.
woah... did george call himself john when he said... "john paul and ringo" thats strange

I remember this interview when it first aired in 1988, I was 11, and I haven't seen it since then, and a lot of things from this interview I remember, but I don't remember Ringo being so drunk...

These are the best interviews I have seen on You Tube. Thank you so much, Opulent7. You have made my day!

That's funny, George was the youngest and Ringo was the oldest.

I LOVE Ringo doing the voice for Thomas the Train. I wish he would have done more!

God bless you George for saying all that...for still being that real even in the face of it all. A brave soul.

Ringo and George ae great Musicans when they were in the Beatles and thier Solo carrer. I miss George as he was one of the greatest Beatle and same as John he was the best. But Ringo will always be my favorite.
