Let me edit what I just said. From this vantage point the display is a little random towards the beginning. It is not a bad display, but it is not what you expect from an olympic display. I am sure it was a different experience down in the stadium.

@ty2 I really don't think the ceremony should be judged by the "fireworks", It was what was inside the stadium (opening ceremony) that made it special. Fireworks were just the icing on the cake.

You guys, cowboy is right. There is nothing too special about this fireworks display. Sure there are a large amount of fireworks, but they did not do anything with them. They shot them aimlessly into the air as if there was no regard to the sky space and negative space and the size of each rocket. This is not what you expect from an olympic display. Beijing was expensive and had fake fireworks, but Athens was much better. Sydney was much better. The Superbowl halftime show was more creative

About on par with what was going on inside. I'm sorry to say it, but from the perspective of NBC, it was one of the worst Opening Ceremonies I've seen. From the over-use of projected images, to the too-slow rendition of your National Anthem, to the over-wrought soprano with the Olympic Anthem, to the hydraulic failure with the torch lighting, to the lighting of two separate cauldrons... The whole thing was a very second-rate production.
