Every Hawk fan got at least 1 grey hair on halloween 2009 but that was a day/night I will never forget in IOWA CITY. If only the drunkness didn't lead to booing ricky stanzi but who knows he may have needed that to wake up but regardless top 5 days I've lived EVER what a day trick or treat Iowa City indeed
@hamzygasse his name is Brandon Weiger i think his last name is spelled and no he was not a senior that year he was a freshman i think and left cause of personal reasons
@TheImmortalGFX He left because he wanted the full time rushing job over Adam Robinson but Ferentz wouldn't give it to him. Wegher left for Oklahoma but dropped out last semester I think.
The biggest factor in that game was the wind. It had to be blowing a consistent 15 miles an hour with gusts approaching 25. Iowa made the mistake of trying to throw the ball deep into the wind in the 3rd quarter. Once they had the wind at their backs, they scored almost at will.
This was my first game at Kinnick. I had just came back from my 3rd tour in Iraq and my (now ex-wife) had bought me 3 tickets to take my 2 daughters with me (8 and 6). I loved everything about this game because it's Iowa in November and the wind can and does have an effect on the game. Whether or not Indiana had the foot down or not I don't care it's over, get over it....nm most hawk fans still bring up the badly officiated bowl with Florida. Well here is to another great season in Iowa........
I was at this game and was going to leave at halftime when they had an awesome halftime performance...shortly after that sash had that returned and i stayed. that was a crazy game.
ohio state might want to switch there QB if they even want a chance to beat iowa. Iowa has hampton returning to play which will deepen the back feild and gives iowa a little more offense to work with.
iowa is one of those teams that plays there best when they are in a situation other teams collapse in or would give up in. they play at there worst when they are playing a team they think they wont have a problem with. very strange.
I was at this game and for the first three quarter it was terrible after his 5th interception stanzi was bood of the field. It was crazy but, when we made our come back Kinnick got so loud all fans were going nuts. It was crazy that was my first trip to kinnick and i will remember it for the rest of my life.
Ohio State returns quite a bit and should be able to replace the losses on defense. They always just reload. We cannot think for one second Ohio State will be easy pickins. They'll come loaded and gunnin.
Milton, why dont you shut ur dumb mouth about attacking the state of IA. Look up Des Moines if you know how to type. Does that place look like cow tippers? I dont think you should attack IA about farming if you like in INDIANA! Nothing to be said there. Is little Milton sad bout losing??
I was at this game and going into the fourth quarter all i was thinking was.... i cant believe we're gonna come back and beat them from a 10 point defecit.
dude how many times have you seen OSU go to a BCS game or bowl game and just absolutely get raped up the ass. its like a dad getting the step child. you have no room to talk. you shouldn't even be talking shit on this video anyways when we won it. obviously you watched the video cause your commenting on it so you must really like the hawkeyes you son of a bitch. fuck off! go suck some cock why your at it
look at at hawkmans page its all decorated with iowa stuff, ur pathetic u wana talk bout iowa lossing to nu what bout ur new team osu losing to purdue, its easy to be a fair weather fan bet u got some long horns some where dont you
HawkmanDude, fortunately the Hawks are not professionals. They don't just exist for your pleasure. Did anyone quit, start missing blocks, stop hustling? The Big Ten is always a dog fight you must get psyched-up for each week. When skill players are not available, then it is even tougher. Apply some of their effort to your loyalty. OSU is the fight. Would you rather beat NU or OSU? Take the lemons and make lemonade.
Milton - God forsaken state? really? Iowa does a lot of good for the United States' economy. Every state has meth users.
HawkmanDude - we most likely lost due to the high number of injured players - people kept stepping in and doing the job but Vandenberg had a lot to take control of being just a Freshman. go be a USC fan, loser
Your comments remind me so much of some Nebraska fans I remember during the 1980s. I've always thought the best thing about being an Iowa fan was not being spoiled by winning.
We have, we did and we are. Get out of the county and see what a great state Iowa is. How is your rehab going? You sound like a real expert the way you counsel people you don't know.
Must say that Indiana can play some football. Perhaps a bit more time in the gym would allow them to hold onto a lead that their talent earned for them early in the many games they have blown
How shallow your faith! Let's review. OSU's offense is their QB. Our strength is defense, hard work, never say die attitude, coaching, and fans.
We have key players and a QB that needs a few snaps. No one is irreplaceable. OSU is already smelling the roses. They have no film on our new guy. We have them where we want them...overconfident.
Iowa needs to win the turnover battle. We play best when we play for respect.
HAHA....are you kiddin you little bitch....atleast people can say now the refs ARENT favoring Iowa....good God, a phantom holding call on a long touchdown run, atleast 3 interfence penalties on that last drive where they wouldn't throw shit.....it was just too much to lose Stanzi......If he doesn't get hurt Iowa wins......4th string RB, 2nd string quarterback who threw 3 passes before today.....your an idiot...there are no words to describe how fuckin retarded you are!!!
Alas, it was unfortunate that Stanzi went down (I do so hope he's okay next week, he's done so much for the team, it would be tragic to see him injured for the rest of the year). However, Northwestern did what they needed for a victory, and I would like to offer my congratulations to fans of Northwestern that their team managed to beat my Hakwyes in all four quarters in a good game and wish them luck here on out. However, Iowa could win their remaining games and still call it a good season.
NW didn't win all the quarters, they played pretty good, but lets be honest here, Iowa is the better team....Stanzi stays in and they win....and I hate to say it but I think today is the end of Iowa's great season......OSU is gonna beat PSU and Vanden berg aint ready at this point in his career to carry this already injury plagued team...I just hope the rest of the season doesn't hurt our recruiting cuz we have great class so far coming in.....I'm lookin forward the the bowl game and next season
The way I see it, Iowa can still beat Ohio State, but it's going to be a long shot without Stanzi. I'm a fan of both Penn State and Iowa, and Penn State lost their Rose Bowl hopes today (I'm never one to be disappointed with a team or point the finger, because the players always try so hard to win, but today I felt like Penn State just outright quit in the second half, I probably said "alas" 50 times during that game), and teams sometimes play better with one loss than they do when undefeated.
Your a fagget oakley...they go to Michigan state at night, to PSU at night, to wisconsin for an 11:00 game (which by the way, wisconsin under bielema had never lost at home at 11:00).....they lose their starting quarterback who is 17-3 as a starter and replace him with a guy who has 3 passes in college football and is a freshman....add a bullshit holding call on a long run and basically a penalty on every big Iowa play, You gotta be shittin me ya fagget!!! A 13 game winning streak AINT LUCK!!!
haha...you must be a MSU fan??? Michigan, maybe Indiana??? LOL, are you done crying yet about those losses yet??? well it will be worse next year with all our RB healthy and basically our entire defense back.....lol, luck.....haha, what an idiot....
Red , you cut me deep now. Are you actually calling me or thinking i'm a yankee? This is bad. That's the worst thing you could have ever said.I'm outta here. Long live the Hawkeyes........
They had several games this year that could have gone either way, it just so happened that they were on the winning side every time, until today. If they had beaten Northwestern I would have picked them to go all the way, but they didn't.
That isn't very nice, you can't win every game, you know. I accept that. Sometimes your opponent is the better team that day. If Iowa loses to Northwestern, then that means Northwestern played a better game. It means Northwestern is a much better team than people thought, and not that Iowa is a bad team. I know Northwestern is 5-4 right now, but they gave Penn State a scare deep into the game (despite the final score).
To be honest, I don't see it as being quite that straightforward, but that's my opinion, but I respect yours, however. It looked like a very even game to me, Penn State had three late missed scoring chances (one was a missed field goal), actually. I think Penn State dominated the first quarter, Iowa the second, the third quarter was fairly equal (maybe with the edge to PSU), then Iowa dominated the fourth quarter. That's why I saw it as close, but with Iowa being the better team that night.
right even if indiana would a scored those touchdowns they should have scored the hawks still would have beat them in the 4th quarter they are unstopable
Yes, it was a close game. You did watch it, right? Penn State led 10-5 until early in the 4th quarter (led 10-0 at one point), Iowa blocked a punt, returned it for a touchdown to go up 11-10. Penn State drove but was intercepted and returned most of the way, Iowa soon made it 18-10. Penn State almost drove for a touchdown, but it was fumbled at something like the 18 yard line. Iowa kicked a field goal close to the end to prevent Penn State from winning. Just curious, but how is that one-sided?
Iowa's secondary is #1 for a reason. To beat nw and osu we have to force the qbs to throw the ball. We def can't let terell pryor or kafka ( if he plays ) beat us with their feet or it could be a long game.
Hawks all the way! Iowa better step it up a notch if they ACTUALLY expect to take down NW and OSU...minnisotta isnt tht bad either, but regardless.. hawks had a nice comeback, GO HAWKS!
What's weird about Iowa is that they seem to play at the same level as every one of their opponents. I believe that this team is capable of beating anybody in the nation (close win vs Penn State), yet at the same time, capable of losing to anybody in the nation (close win vs Northern Iowa). However, I believe that Iowa will find a way to beat Ohio State.
Iowa has a bad habit of playing down to their opponents. A good example is the Northern Iowa game. I will also say that it was early in the season and we were still figuring things out as far as our RB situation.
Yes, that is true, although I would consider the Northern Iowa game an issue of trial and error with the offense (Iowa normally would not trail against a I-AA team such as Northern Iowa, the previous year, Iowa effortlessly defeated Maine 46-3). The Arkansas State game, however, is a perfect example of playing down to the competition. Thankfully, Iowa also has the potential to beat nearly any team in the nation, and they won a nice game against Georgia Tech last night in that Orange Bowl.
Yeah, that's why I mentioned the issue with the RB situation, because Paki O'Meara got the start, even though it should've been A-Rob or Wegher. Get both of them in = run game and that = passing game.
Alas, it seems that Paki O'Meara always is the starter or projected starter, yet never can do as well on the field as he does in practice. I wonder why. Could it be nerves, perhaps? I would like to see O'Meara have the kind of season that I believe he is capable of. He will be a senior this year, am I correct?
I just don't think Wegher and ARob were tested enough in spring practice and other practices, otherwise I think we would've seen them listed above O'Meara in the depth chart. And I believe he will be a senior this year, although I'm not sure how many touches he'll get since Hampton should be back and healthy. Ferentz will find something for him.
Yes, I had forgotten about Jewell Hampton. He showed a lot of potential to be as good as Shonn Greene during the 2008 season. I believe that a system combining the tailbacks, similar to how Penn State had utilized Evan Royster, Brandon Beachum, and Stephon Green throughout the year, would be ideal for Iowa to win at least 11 games next year.
Our offensive line is my biggest concern. We lose 4 of our two deep. I am very concerned about our ability to protect Stanzi. We've done a fairly good job at that the last two years and is one of the big reasons he has been able to make a lot of big plays for us.
agree with everything you said about Iowa and their tendency to play down or up to their competition...hopefully next season we see the offense really excell and the same effort on the defensive side of the ball...could equal another BCS game....Orange Bowl Champions baby!
I don't buy into the conspiracy theory regarding all of the bad calls in the Iowa/Iu game. But if the Big ten does not act on it, apologize to IU, or suspend the refs, then the rest of the country will continue to believe that the fix was in.
Wait a second.....what calls were bad.....there was one touchdown I saw that Indiana should have gotten and it was taken away......The other touchdown was called no touchdown, they reviewed it and it wasn't a touchdown.....They had one touchdown that was taken away and it was tough to tell whether or not it was a touchdown.....what other bad calls were there??? to be honest, i was at the game, and I saw alot of obvious holding calls on IU that weren't called....
what helmet to helmet call are you talking about??? I was at the game i don't remember any helmet to helmet calls being made....there was one unnecessary roughness penalty on the sidelines on Mcnutt....they didn't call helmet to helmet on it...."the first down call".....lol, do you mean the one they reviewed and then sent Iowa back??? Missed holding on Iowa HAHAHA....i saw Indiana holding clayborn and ballard all game! now you're just searchin for shit dude....come on, that ridiculous....
It was the UR call close to the sidelines. there was just no explanation for it unless they called it H2H, but the replay showed otherwise. It certainly was nowhere near out of bounds.
I am talking about the first down thst IU clearly got and then your replay guy somehow ignored.
IU holding? C'mon, now you are just making things up.
Regardless, the rest of the world laughed out loud at your loss Sat. Sometimes Karma is a good thing.
LOL...no holding? r u shitting me? haha, whatever...you obviously don't know shit about football, but you wanna bitch and cry about how IU can't hold a fuckin lead after Iowa gave them the game for 3 quarters go ahead....Maybe its just IU and not the refs? ya think about that dumbshit...I mean IU did the same shit two weeks in a row...and I could care less about the loss, cuz if Stanzi doesn't get injured we win : ) and then we beat OSU and go the Rose Bowl...the thing is I kno we were the best
WOW.....you are so creative!!! lol, making fun of one of the best states for education in the country....very nice ya hick....and the farming comment, with the cow thing, coming from a place like INDIANA??? Ya, i don't really need to say much about that.....but keep bitching like a little girl, i'm sure you'll get far in life doing that.....I got an idea for your team, how bout their coach teaches them to play all four quarters like other teams, ya might not choke so much in the future : )
tell ya what Cletus, you stick to Meth, the Hawks, and cow tipping because that is about it in that God-forsaken state.
Too bad that great elementary education program the State of Iowa brags about falls apart once the middle schoolers get hooked on meth. Wasn't that dump Newton Iowa recently crowned the meth capital of the world?
HAHAHA...oh i'm sorry, i just thought of Indiana's football program....ya know how they try to be good and stuff...lol, its a good joke cuz they'll never be good...and this dude who makes all the farming jokes, coming from a farming state.....oh man, "cletus"...this guy is so original...must be that Indiana education system : ) lol...and apparently we all smoke meth and yet somehow we are still more intelligent than this Hoosier loving little bitch, whose name is Milton...Incestuous name much?
& we have almost everybody coming back next year...2 linebackers on the defensive side leaving and possibly 3 O-linemen, which we reload like its no ones business...not to mention how much playing time our young guys have got this year, which will help us in the long run.....LOL, see you think that Iowa guys are gonna sit and bitch like IU fans...no no, we kno we were the better team and we know what we have ready for next year...see we take defeat like men, not like little girls : )
Anybody can tell that the refs were terribly biased and that I.U. Physically and point wise beat Iowa 3 out of 4 quarters. I gotta hand it to the Iowa O in the 4th quarter, they knocked some ass. Also the pinball interception for the TD was tight.
All in all I am proud of my good ol Hoosiers for actually competing against a very good top 5 ranked team. Look for I.U. to beat Purdue and Wisconsin to get to a bowl.
The way Iowa wins games is like the Superbowl in February with the Steelers was. Every week the games are as exciting as the week before. What a treat this season is!
What a game. I thought we were done for sure just before Ballard blocked that pass and Sash took it to the house. I had front row of the student section baby!!!
Alot of people are saying that crap about loosing out on 2 touchdowns, but Indiana scored on the next play after 1 of them so they only really "lost" one TD, not 2.
Really? They cost Indy? never mind the missed holding on Indy's second TD. Nevermind the very nice pick of an Iowa reciever on one of Stanzi's INTS. Indy still had an opp to win this game when the fourth Q started. They didn't seal the deal. Did Indy blame the refs after Northwestern?
I don't know if I've laughed and cried so much in 4 minutes and 43 seconds! This was the best highlights reel I've ever seen! LOVE the soundtrack! Go Hawks!
I'm counting no less than six Hawkeye players running the field with Sash on the int return. Pretty much sums up the Iowa D. It's like every one of them had a piece of that pinball.
Talk about spooky....the interception return was a crazy play....I still can't understand why the Indiana touchdown pass was called back.....replay CLEARY shows his one foot inbounds....
They probably got realllllly technical, you can kinda notice that his foot goes up right as he gets the ball and his.... I guess only his ankle grazes the turf. Shouldn't have been called but after the fact I guess that's what they looked at... very weird call. Then again, there were a LOT of controversial calls and challenges made.
Every Hawk fan got at least 1 grey hair on halloween 2009 but that was a day/night I will never forget in IOWA CITY. The Iowa DEFENSE once again kept another team at a low point.
Im not sure why they kept Vandenberg in the rest of the game he had some problems making passes.

Once again NW barely won today.

AdvancedGentleman 2 years ago
if iowa loses to nw, they should just disband the big joke conference and play water polo
lopido 2 years ago

PrincessZelda613 2 years ago
right even if indiana would a scored those touchdowns they should have scored the hawks still would have beat them in the 4th quarter they are unstopable

warcraftkid11 2 years ago
Yes, it was a close game. You did watch it, right? Penn State led 10-5 until early in the 4th quarter (led 10-0 at one point), Iowa blocked a punt, returned it for a touchdown to go up 11-10. Penn State drove but was intercepted and returned most of the way, Iowa soon made it 18-10. Penn State almost drove for a touchdown, but it was fumbled at something like the 18 yard line. Iowa kicked a field goal close to the end to prevent Penn State from winning. Just curious, but how is that one-sided?

really guys stop being baby's. IU should just cancel there football program....they suck....always have.....always will....GO HAWKS!

Iowa's secondary is #1 for a reason. To beat nw and osu we have to force the qbs to throw the ball. We def can't let terell pryor or kafka ( if he plays ) beat us with their feet or it could be a long game.

the int at 1:33 the only reason that was a pick is because the wideout ran into the ref

Hawks all the way! Iowa better step it up a notch if they ACTUALLY expect to take down NW and OSU...minnisotta isnt tht bad either, but regardless.. hawks had a nice comeback, GO HAWKS!
jsbincr 2 years ago
What's weird about Iowa is that they seem to play at the same level as every one of their opponents. I believe that this team is capable of beating anybody in the nation (close win vs Penn State), yet at the same time, capable of losing to anybody in the nation (close win vs Northern Iowa). However, I believe that Iowa will find a way to beat Ohio State.
PrincessZelda613 2 years ago
Iowa has a bad habit of playing down to their opponents. A good example is the Northern Iowa game. I will also say that it was early in the season and we were still figuring things out as far as our RB situation.
BullzOnParade17 2 years ago
Yes, that is true, although I would consider the Northern Iowa game an issue of trial and error with the offense (Iowa normally would not trail against a I-AA team such as Northern Iowa, the previous year, Iowa effortlessly defeated Maine 46-3). The Arkansas State game, however, is a perfect example of playing down to the competition. Thankfully, Iowa also has the potential to beat nearly any team in the nation, and they won a nice game against Georgia Tech last night in that Orange Bowl.
PrincessZelda613 2 years ago
Yeah, that's why I mentioned the issue with the RB situation, because Paki O'Meara got the start, even though it should've been A-Rob or Wegher. Get both of them in = run game and that = passing game.
BullzOnParade17 2 years ago
Alas, it seems that Paki O'Meara always is the starter or projected starter, yet never can do as well on the field as he does in practice. I wonder why. Could it be nerves, perhaps? I would like to see O'Meara have the kind of season that I believe he is capable of. He will be a senior this year, am I correct?
PrincessZelda613 2 years ago
I just don't think Wegher and ARob were tested enough in spring practice and other practices, otherwise I think we would've seen them listed above O'Meara in the depth chart. And I believe he will be a senior this year, although I'm not sure how many touches he'll get since Hampton should be back and healthy. Ferentz will find something for him.
BullzOnParade17 2 years ago
Yes, I had forgotten about Jewell Hampton. He showed a lot of potential to be as good as Shonn Greene during the 2008 season. I believe that a system combining the tailbacks, similar to how Penn State had utilized Evan Royster, Brandon Beachum, and Stephon Green throughout the year, would be ideal for Iowa to win at least 11 games next year.
PrincessZelda613 2 years ago
Our offensive line is my biggest concern. We lose 4 of our two deep. I am very concerned about our ability to protect Stanzi. We've done a fairly good job at that the last two years and is one of the big reasons he has been able to make a lot of big plays for us.
mongoose704 2 years ago
We should be fine, we got some decent recruits this year and Ferentz will get them whipped into shape since he used to be an OL coach.
BullzOnParade17 2 years ago
@mongoose704 we also lost one of the best T.E.s in the big ten he also made some pretty impressive catches
nappyboy60 1 year ago
agree with everything you said about Iowa and their tendency to play down or up to their competition...hopefully next season we see the offense really excell and the same effort on the defensive side of the ball...could equal another BCS game....Orange Bowl Champions baby!

It would be especially nice to see that BCS bowl be the Rose Bowl next year.

carnalito81 2 years ago
I don't buy into the conspiracy theory regarding all of the bad calls in the Iowa/Iu game. But if the Big ten does not act on it, apologize to IU, or suspend the refs, then the rest of the country will continue to believe that the fix was in.
Milton987 2 years ago
Wait a second.....what calls were bad.....there was one touchdown I saw that Indiana should have gotten and it was taken away......The other touchdown was called no touchdown, they reviewed it and it wasn't a touchdown.....They had one touchdown that was taken away and it was tough to tell whether or not it was a touchdown.....what other bad calls were there??? to be honest, i was at the game, and I saw alot of obvious holding calls on IU that weren't called....
redrox15 2 years ago
The first down call, the phantom PI on IU, the phantom helmet to helmet, the missed holding on Iowa, on and on and on.
Milton987 2 years ago
what helmet to helmet call are you talking about??? I was at the game i don't remember any helmet to helmet calls being made....there was one unnecessary roughness penalty on the sidelines on Mcnutt....they didn't call helmet to helmet on it...."the first down call".....lol, do you mean the one they reviewed and then sent Iowa back??? Missed holding on Iowa HAHAHA....i saw Indiana holding clayborn and ballard all game! now you're just searchin for shit dude....come on, that ridiculous....
redrox15 2 years ago
It was the UR call close to the sidelines. there was just no explanation for it unless they called it H2H, but the replay showed otherwise. It certainly was nowhere near out of bounds.
I am talking about the first down thst IU clearly got and then your replay guy somehow ignored.
IU holding? C'mon, now you are just making things up.
Regardless, the rest of the world laughed out loud at your loss Sat. Sometimes Karma is a good thing.
Milton987 2 years ago
LOL...no holding? r u shitting me? haha, whatever...you obviously don't know shit about football, but you wanna bitch and cry about how IU can't hold a fuckin lead after Iowa gave them the game for 3 quarters go ahead....Maybe its just IU and not the refs? ya think about that dumbshit...I mean IU did the same shit two weeks in a row...and I could care less about the loss, cuz if Stanzi doesn't get injured we win : ) and then we beat OSU and go the Rose Bowl...the thing is I kno we were the best

I have a Christmas gift idea for all you Cow-tippers.
Perhaps instead of asking for parts for your meth labs there in Iowa, why not ask for a Football rulebook.
Then ask someone from Nebraska to read it to you.

Yes, yes, yes, and well...yes.
tell ya what Cletus, you stick to Meth, the Hawks, and cow tipping because that is about it in that God-forsaken state.
Too bad that great elementary education program the State of Iowa brags about falls apart once the middle schoolers get hooked on meth. Wasn't that dump Newton Iowa recently crowned the meth capital of the world?
Good luck there Overalls

Anybody can tell that the refs were terribly biased and that I.U. Physically and point wise beat Iowa 3 out of 4 quarters. I gotta hand it to the Iowa O in the 4th quarter, they knocked some ass. Also the pinball interception for the TD was tight.
All in all I am proud of my good ol Hoosiers for actually competing against a very good top 5 ranked team. Look for I.U. to beat Purdue and Wisconsin to get to a bowl.

Wisconsin seems to be stepping it up a notch, but I think you're definitely in for sure.

They probably got realllllly technical, you can kinda notice that his foot goes up right as he gets the ball and his.... I guess only his ankle grazes the turf. Shouldn't have been called but after the fact I guess that's what they looked at... very weird call. Then again, there were a LOT of controversial calls and challenges made.
