This works for me. Of course this was not going to be the perfect studio version. JPJ was the least celebrated member of Zep, yet at the same time he was a crucial part of their synergy. Glad to see him in the spotlight from time to time.
@pencon61 wouldnt say shite, not great but not shite. at least he is giving it a try along with evrything else he has tried i music for christ sake.....
I just got the friggin chills.............Most live Zep Songs do that to me. Been a fan for 21 years. Thanks to my older bro. I would steal his cassete tapes.
Have you ever heard John Paul and Jimmy's voices on Communication Breakdown? They're God awful. But John Paul Jones is one of the greatest bassists that ever lived. And Jimmy is my greatest guitarist ever. :)
@5stringofFernandoSor He didn't sound too bad here, a bit weak but I've heard worse. Ever heard Keith Richards sing? You'll need to smoke a joint afterwards just to gain some level of inner peace, it's disturbing.
I saw them do this live Oakland 1977, a good third of their concert was acoustic.....rock hard, pick light, they're all good...***big sigh*** I wish they were still together (sniff!)
@khamir49 hey i went to oakland in 1977 it was one of the biggest concerts the city has ever seen. it was sold out so we traveled 45 miles for nothing. i was 17. i wanted to cry, lol
yeah they left oakland devestated for days. there concerts where worth driving 500 miles. not even... there concerts where worth dying for. each concert was very diffrent. i went to 7 of there concerts, i think.
I was only two years old at the time, but I somehow wish I could time warp back to then and go to some concerts. I did get to see Page/Plant in 1994 in Orlando.
@Abe91195 oh gees I know how that feels! I missed a performance 90 miles from here; the radio station said they were sold out, but they failed to mention that you could buy lawn tickets at the venue! I wanted to cry too.
led us .. i meen all of us to a higher sensation for what music could be e do , like joy, or power , or happiness. RP had this amazing carisma and shine like a best of what we got. thanks Led Zepp.. i will never be the same again.
Just read all the comments, ay what a saga! Bonzo actually does BV's on quite a few songs, The Ocean springs to mind and there is a Pro-Shot "Live at Kingdome" DVD bootleg floating around from '77
jones plays mandolin on every zeppelin song which has a mandolin minus this one and boogie with stu, so this is page. jones is so much better at mandolin tho!
you my friend have exquisite taste....jonesy's talents r not in the vocals..plant sounded great in 2007 & sj6288 trashed his voice....got me upset!! his voice sounded beautiful !!
In the studio version it was the same situation theres even a video where Pagey plays mando and JPJ plays his triple necked acoustic. It was like that throughout the 77 tour
You can find the Seattle video from the same tour (not a great show but pro shot) and page is playing the Mandolin. Though Jones's tripple neck does have a mandolin on the top.
I have this whole concert but its choppy, either Page stoped playing or the audio from his guitar keeps going out, I think there are two versions of these shows and I believe I got the lesser, but this sounds excactly like what I have just with the intro plant talking cut out
This has ben re released (as a bootleg) in 5.1 audio, it is now awesome. The original soundboards were a bit flat, but that has now been fixed.
Try and find Ultimate Destroyer. The guy that recorded this show was doing it to send to the guy in Seattle so he would be able to set up the lights. Seattle was filmed but it was not as good of a show.
Rumor has it the Summit show from Houston was also filmed but it has never leaked out, the soundboard recording has so keep your fingers crossed.
The Summit show is very probable, they had an internal video feed that they use to send to monitors around the arena. Just recently many have started to surface. I think the then owner recorded nearly every concert played there.
Im very intrigued. Do you think an official release is possible? All they need to do is pick the best moments, master the soundboard tracks, cook the film for a bit (like they did with the Earls court footage for DVD) and bob's your uncle. Its obviously a hell of a lot of work but If they have the resources an offical release of some 77' stuff would be a dream come true.
I doubt it until after Page is gone. I dont thing Page was ever happy with the later stuff (he did not shine as much due to drugs). He only likes to let out perfection. If the Houston show exists you will find it first and best in the bootleg market (thank you Japan).
So JPJ isn't the best singer...he made up for his lack of singing with his amazing talent for bass, paino/keyboard, mandolin, etc, etc, etc. And btw JPJ sounds better than most of the music today so.......lol
I'm pretty sure its Jones, he usually did the backup vocals on this song when they did it live...then again Frusciante95 might be right also I don't exactly know though. Sounds like Jones to me maybe, but hey, glad you enjoy it!!!
thank you so much for posting this!! my destroyer got ruined and i haven't replaced it yet. this is my favorite song from the whole bootleg, so i'm grateful to have it again!!
