how bigs your tank? i want to put a figure 8 puffer on its own in 30Litre tank (the tanks 24 by 8 by 9 inches) but im not sure if i should. do they do alright living alone?
@ClaudeyBoy a figure 8 would do great in a 30litre.. i had 4 in a 30l tank and they did quite fine.. however they do challange for dominance.. i would suggest getting other fish in there that are fast and can handle there own against a puffer.. like a red tailed shark for instance would help clean ur tank AND be fast enough to not become dinner. i had a colony going for about a year until this lil one got the nerve to take out the other 3 :S so. best advice 1 puffer 3 fast cleany type fish
Someone plz reply!! I have been told by pet experts and I am planning to put a figure 8 puffer(grows to 2.5 inches) by itself in my 10 gallon aquarium. They can be fine by themselves and are not very sociable as it is and will be very happy by itself in my 10 gallon. Is this true and is there any more room for adding any more figure 8 puffers?
You should have at least 30 gallons for a single adult f8. The old 'inch per gallon' rule doesnt work for puffers since that 'rule' is based on bio-load for your filter, and since puffers are messy eaters and have a very high protein diet, they can put strain on smaller systems fast. If you want to keep more than one, I would suggest a bigger tank, and over-filtering it, along with frequent water changes. Make sure he's in brackish water!
I'm not the expert but I have a green spotted puffer in my 6 gallon and he's doin fine. But I have a 55 gallon tank that I can move him to if he gets too big.
i kinda like the way u have the tank but put in a few rocks thats all i ask, lol give the puffer a place to hide (he wont hide alot but he should feel more secure)
There are brackish puffers but now its become more popular to see completely freshwater ones. At the store near me, they sell for about 7-8$ for ones that are about 2 inches long.
YEah that was when i first got him, i wanted to see the amount of waste he put out first before selecting a substrate, its not as bad as i thought. So he now has some black argonite fine sand as well as some crushed coral. hes pretty happy. will make a new video soon :)
bought 3-3.5 inches or about 6cms so not that big, but compared to the fact that he was just a tiny baby when i got him and that video is in a 5.5 gallon aquarium (until i transition him) so it is kinda hard to judge his sie there. but basically he would grow about 2in more to be full grown. I guess you can compare the size of the shrimp to him tho, cus that was a small ghostshrimp.

i have one and same size tank and was told that 2 is ok

nope, the puffers need to be in at least a 30 gallon. Google it and research before buying

rule of thumb is 2 gallons per inch of fish times the number of fish. 3X5inch fish = 30gal
