  • @ 1:00 thats me

  • the swinging pendulum in the backdrop sets a rather appropriate mood

  • SICK! :D

  • The Enlightenment on film.

  • I wonder if one day they'd be hit by the weird dangly thing?

  • bach was an incredible composer

  • this piece is great

  • Comment removed

  • my guitar ensemble is playing this

  • this video is hilarious! this is some of the best music ever written. without a shadow of a doubt.

  • beautiful!

  • This video is an absolute scream ;-)

  • cant really call that conducting....

  • Cleverbot told me it could play this.

  • i love this piece so much i baught it off amozon to ply on my violin

  • Is this some sort of Orchestral Voyeurism? Someone has a weird fetish.

  • Wonderful

  • Great performance, but...what's happening in this video? I don't get it. There's a random giant pendulum swinging from the ceiling, people facing the wall, cardboard walls, harpsichordist standing in a big hallway not doing anything, spectators appearing out of nowhere and then disappearing, and blah. Great music nontheless.

  • Can someone please explain what the hell is going on here?

  • @firestartertwistedfi

    Modern art is happening. xD

  • one of the best i can find on YouTube.

  • Sublime!

  • @ 2:02, it's James May!

  • i want to marry her

  • This music is a GAY music!!! boo!!!

  • @SkarvikaIsABabe really?? i'd like to know what you consider not gay.

  • @SkarvikaIsABabe - Then why are you listening to it? haha.

Now, don't tell me that this is crap and modern music is far better. I listen to both, but here's the truth:

In about 10 years, nobody will be listening to Lady Gaga or Katy Perry.

However, the music here has been here for HUNDREDS of years.

If by 2111 the modern music we listen to now is still popular, then go ahead and call me a retard. but then that's not going to happen, is it? lol.

  • @goodcommentguy being around for long time doesnt not mean is good... old people are around for long time and they are gay ass losers

  • @SkarvikaIsABabe - haha, learn to respect the elderly, my friend. their wisdom and experience of the world is unmatched, and compared to some of them we are nothing but mere children.

  • @goodcommentguy: Unmatched, you say? I guess their experience has to be unmatched if you count it in years. And there's nothing "mere" about children, show some respect.

  • The pendulum is a nice touch.

  • Wonderful playing the best i ever heard.

  • Wonderful playing the best i ever heard.

  • 12 dislikes??? losers

  • why does the cellist hold his bow like that in 2:57?

  • @legoland70 lmfao :D

  • I played this against my belly, and my unborn baby went NUTS. It felt like a gymnastics party was going on in there! I think she liked it, hahaha :)

  • @Anasilen Maybe she was trying to sleep :D

  • @Anasilen That is going to be one cultured child!

  • lost alternative ending

  • LOST alternative ending

  • So good, why isnt she famous now

  • Davvero brava e bonona !!!

  • isn't this dangerous?

    ;-)

  • 0:19=WTF

  • @sitarooman the conductor ?

  • Sounds great! Interesting video, but I liked best the close-ups of the players playing. One of the all-time great pieces of music.

  • mysterious.....

    i like it !:D

  • Excellent performance and gordgius directing ! This is The Bach phenomenon !

The universe of music himself !!!

  • this video is so beautiful

  • very mysterious.....

  • Loved the perfomace! And the video is so pretentious and outdated that I found it funny. The guy reading books on the harpischord seems almost a parody. XD

  • Concerto in E major - Concerto in D minor that is...

  • @Beastmast3r5254 wait what? It'd be e-flat major if you played in baroque key.

  • @Jagtarro i was typing on the iPhone, so it got messed up, i meant to say that concerto in E major > concerto in d minor, meaning that its harder...yea

  • @Jagtarro the pitch of E has changed since Bachs day. So what is now Eb would have been E back then. Middle C moves up in pitch fairly regularly believe it or not

  • Concerto in E major - Concerto in D minor, sadly, this one is a bit too complicated for me...

  • this video is so cool!

  • Her technique is so impeccable! I love watching her play!

  • The video is creepy.

  • Music like this is why I play :)

  • @brigmahf Me too!!!! :D

  • I would like to know who is the director of this video..amazing+ everything else is perfect..

  • FANTASTICO!!è troppo bello questo concerto

  • bizarre video, great music!!

  • should have had a mini-cam on the pendulum thing to make it even more weird

  • es un pendulo de Foucault.

  • el pendulo es una mamelucada

  • Esecuzione splendida e bravi esecutori -

Bravi

  • Wow, this is very different. I like it.

  • In general it is a rather flat performance.

No comments about the ridiculous video that could´ve been a sketch of the fantastic Monty Python. :)

  • @Eloitxo1 I don't agree about the performance, I mean it wasn't great but it didn't seem too flat to me. I definitely agree about the video though! It's like they were making a music video for Bach or something...haha

  • Maybe you're right and I was too harsh..anyhow I can't help it, I still feel it is too flat. I mean that of course they create different atmospheres through dynamic changes and contrasts, but in my opinion those changes are always sooo gradual, and in a veeery large scope (longe phrases) (...)

  • .I think much more can be done in terms of expressivity (articulation, dynamics...) in a short/small scale. There are many things that could be done within a bar, looking for the small gestures...I don't know if anyone agrees and I definitely didn't mean to sort of "give a lecture". It's just an opinion. And yes, the "genius" that "created" the video should definitely be fired.

  • yeah man MP would make it so perfect lol

  • oooh! Elisa Lee Koljonen,an excellent musician, for a delightfull piece!

  • Sugoi!!! *-*

  • Amazing!

  • 0:57 gorgeous!

  • @haranghy

Why? Can you explain yourself? I ask because musically the performance simply doesn´t change of add any variation. Maybe you speak about the "poetic" image of the silent girl holding a violin...

  • muy pero muy bueno!!!!!!!

  • realmente bello, musica y video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i loved it.

    Lima Peru

  • What i dont get is how everybody seems to be focusing on the video... its the music that counts!

  • Mertens? that's my name

  • gonna go with ... love first, understand later XD

  • something so wonderful..it's no so often to find!..thank you!

  • Wow, beautiful, but what the fuck?

  • l like that menacing GIGANTIC PENDULUM just swinging back and forth between those bystanders...Why does it miss them though? I was so expecting it to hit someone at the end...LOL

    But the performance was good.

  • i like how all the benchwarmers are looking on hoping to play

  • WHAT THE HECK?

  • Rather nonsensical visuals. Inversion at around 4:00.

  • umm.... great performance, but the video is CREEEEEEPY......

  • I DON'T GET THIS VIDEO! Freakin' Europeans!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • @Dogaradodia : Intergalactic you bet! One of Bach's best I think. I always loved playing the first movement of this piece. It left me feeling peaceful and happy. This is an interesting way to present it and very imaginative; timeless.

  • scary video

  • ROFL HOW?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • like in all seriousness, if i was in that room just standing there perfectly still .....well lets face it, i wouldn't be able to do that, but being the only one not standing there perfectly still or playing, i'd think the government planing something!

  • too much vibrato for Baroque music IMO.

it was an ornament in those days and used sparingly

  • Actually we don't know what they did. We are shooting in the dark.

  • Is this supposed to be some sort of period thing?! I see astronomy books, a pendulum, a prism...they are inside a cathedral............ 0_o Whatever......excellent music!!!! Great concerto! Applause to Bach!!! applause to the interpreters!

  • guess it's in Wien, since I feel the Germanic style and the Mahler Jugendorchester

  • mahler youth orchestras? wow they are really good! I heard about them while looking up auditions info for schools XD

  • Absolutely enjoyable !

  • sehr gute!!

  • what a weird video...

    good music nevertheless.

  • @cl427x Hahahaha What a funny comment!

  • She's an amazing violinist, the first time i heard of her

  • Bach made at least 21 violinconcerts.

    there is only 3 left.

  • Pretty good job by the soloist, although she is no Hilary Hahn..but man, what the hell is up with this vid? LOLOL.I am sorry, but this was just hilarious, like a British comedy or something.

  • Dude youre right she is no Hilary Hahn. He 10x better.

  • The music is timeless and wonderful, but the contrived and distracting visual aspects seem more than a little ridiculous. Bach would be rolling his eyes.

  • The pendulum to me is not any enchancing my interest for the music. I was so touched the last 2 minutes. How can thank enough you Mr Bach? never get tired of this piece.

  • The Focuaults's pendulum ist very impressive in this scene.

  • Certified Intergalactic! I used to play this piece as a kid. With difficulty. :-)

  • Does anyone else think that the violins are too loud at around 2:30? The violas should be the ones on top of everyone else in that section.

  • it is still is a violin solo there

  • nadays when people do these concertos they tend to do it the way the want are think it need to go

  • i bet your a violist huh? or a conductor maybe....then again conductors usually dont like the violas to be too loud so maybe not

  • anyone knows where this video was filmed in ???

  • What a bizarre setting. Were they trying to bring back the 80's? Wonderful recording though.

  • the old lady looks like queen elizabeth

  • maybe it is Helen Mirren

  • @reflastori I was thinking the same thing, and I was going to comment it. She looks exactly like the queen.

  • Love the music & video...¡Gracias! Merci! Thank You!

  • merveilleux

Musik & Kirche & Pendel sowie Hintergrund nicht vergessen!

  • Listening to baroque music is always a sublime pleasure. On the visual genre, I dedicate this video, if I may, in memory of Stanley Kubrick (film maker, screen writer, movie producer), which reminds me of him. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Kind of strange...

  • Mira. Si me vas a hablar en Frances cuando se completamente sabe que you estaba hablando en Ingles, pues yo to hablo en espanol. Ja!

  • i dont get all the random architecture and the random people standing around the players O.o

  • That really is weird, almost like they are amazed that the actively playing musicians have not yet realized that they are all really dead

  • i don't think bach would be rolling his eyes,he would be drooling! duh! who cares about the setting, we are living now. the soloist is tasteful..consider shakespeare modern settings. i guess it's subjective.. but we areabout the music!!! honey you are precious!

  • the music is fantastic in any case. just when i think mozart is the best ever, i hear a piece by bach like this one,and wonder who is better.

  • Then you never heard any of Beethovens symphonies, they are bigger than any ather music ever written.

  • beethoven is too moody, emotional, angry, and unpredictable

  • Well then you never heard his 6th and 7th. There note angry in any way, yeast extremely beautefull and brilliant.

  • Yeah his music makes me want to cry.

  • That's really only in his later music. In his earlier music(his early piano sonatas, for example) tend to be more classical in nature than romantic. It's only after he started to realize that he was going deaf that he wrote "moody, emotional, angry, and unpredictable" music, so yeah.

  • When do you think the cutoff point was? I have heard that for both Haydn and Mozart, that virtually all of their greatest music was written in the 1780's and after

  • I'm not sure, to be honest. I don't really there was any sort of cut off point for the musical eras, it was probably more of just a weird transition

  • That the whole point of composing

  • what is?

  • To express how you feel if you listen the msuci music it trying to to express thing to you

  • Yeah. Big symphonies are nice sometimes, but small chamber music is awesome too!

But meh, I love it all, lol

  • Sure thing Beethoven is the grandfather of all composers

  • i dont think it depends on how big something is. the simplist tunes can be great. if you comparing to size, listen to Mahlar. he would win everything then.

  • good i am working on tese peices i am 14 but the 3rd mov. is so much better

  • She is exceptional. I love the video and this brings back so many memories since I played this piece as a teenager over 20 years ago for a recital. I am going to start working on this piece again now.

  • The Kyung Wha Chung interpretation of this work is beautiful too. :)

  • I'm currently learning (and obsessed with!) this piece. She just plays it so brilliantly! Beautiful.

  • Did this piece of music go on the Voyager as an ambasador to any one out there that might find it? I believe it did.

  • This is a very original video. The setting is very perplexing, but it really gives the music an eery feel. I'm not sure I understand the whole thing, hypnotic even.

    Excellent playing.

  • I have this song on my ipod, love it!

  • Where are they!?

  • I'm not sure, but it might be some building in Paris, where there is a Foucault's pendulum.

(though, of course, there might be such pendulums - or pendula for purists :-) - in other places as well).

  • Ok, the building in Paris, with such a pendulum, is called "Pantheon", the place were we bury very famous persons (famous doesn't always mean you like them ;-) )

  • Damn I just love their poses.

  • the girl with the violin is sooo pretty!!

  • That is really great! I like the setting a lot (even though I'm not exactly sure what it is). The playing is first rate.

  • Intergalactic! Precious video for generations to come. The best rendition of Bach Violin Concerto in E major on YT.

  • nice setting of the video

  • awesome!!!
