I don't think a guy that would fail the Gurkhas selection would go all the way to France on his own to try the Legion selection. I was in regina as a drill corporal (aide-moniteur forêt) from february 1991 to march 1992.
An USMC platoon came for training in 1991 and another in 1992, the first one was not quite good and the second one -a recon unit- was very good, nice guys and they impressed me. I remember they came from Okinawa.
Legion is more like the US Marines than the SEALS, I mean with Infantry, Cavalry or Enginers regiments. There are some small special operation units like GCM (mountain commandos in 2nd REG) or GCP (para commandos in 2nd REP), DINOPS (amphibious recon. in 1st REG).
What i find amazing about the French foreign Legion is, that there are men from countries all over the world with different ethnic backgrounds fighting side by side. I had the luck to visit their jungle combat school in south america a few years ago, it was an awesome experience.

@13bathory1986 afer ww2 lots of the recruit were german from the werchmart, and a lot of the legion songs and in that case the 2nd rep were inspired by german army songs as well as other countries.

@askmehow80 thanks, i just found it a bit political uncorrect and funny to take a ss song. i think there were more former ss soldiers in the legion than wehrmacht, to escape the court decision.

No sir. Not all people from Nepal can join the British Army Gurkhas.
Also, the Gurkha selection takes place in Nepal when the Legion selection takes place in France. I don't think a guy that would fail the Gurkhas selection would go all the way to France on his own to try the Legion selection. That's quite a chalenge., when applying for the Gurkhas is more like applying for a cicil servent job.

@MrMf92 please note how i said "missed out", and not failed. he could have missed out, simple because he was towards the end of the line. travelling by foot for miles, because you in a poor family, and then have to compete against other people who are just as eager to get out of poverty. that's tough.

@MrMf92 there is a channel 4 documentery about gurkha selection its not as easy as some people thinkif you have any questions about it then watch the documentry and that will answer them for you i know that if somebody fails gurkhas selection its a great shame on them and there familys

@DeejaySmitt let me tell you a good story, in French Guyana the assault course is one that you have to do as a team, the record was 45 mins when I was there, they invited a team of SEALS and it took them nine hours because they couldn't work together, so not every one is as elite as you think

I was in regina as a drill corporal (aide-moniteur forêt) from february 1991 to march 1992.
An USMC platoon came for training in 1991 and another in 1992, the first one was not quite good and the second one -a recon unit- was very good, nice guys and they impressed me. I remember they came from Okinawa.

Legion is more like the US Marines than the SEALS, I mean with Infantry, Cavalry or Enginers regiments. There are some small special operation units like GCM (mountain commandos in 2nd REG) or GCP (para commandos in 2nd REP), DINOPS (amphibious recon. in 1st REG).

What i find amazing about the French foreign Legion is, that there are men from countries all over the world with different ethnic backgrounds fighting side by side. I had the luck to visit their jungle combat school in south america a few years ago, it was an awesome experience.
