  • Good technique for a street fight, however, it should follow the principle of expediency (as taught in Krav, Sambo, heck, even Wing Chun): when the guy is leaning in opting for a ground + pound, why not just kick him in the nuts? In fact, if he creates space and you're on a butterfly guard, just kick him in the face while he's preoccupied trying to pummel your face. No matter his athleticism, a swift thrust to your trachea will stop you.

  • can't the attacker, after he's exited the guard, go for nut stomps, stomps in general? I'm probably wrong, but that's why I'm asking.

  • @piggypoo there are answers for that too review the entire punch block series from gracie combatitives. You can also upkick them in the face :) dont forget

  • The one who is standing can just take a legbar on him....

  • i would make one correction on this technique.

you should keep hold of the ankle as they fall .

reason being because if its an athletic guy he will get up as soon as his back hits the mat

  • @kingshahine wouldn't you be in danger of upkicks?

  • no.

you would be in the same danger if you didn't pick it up.

just make sure that you are staggered and not square when you finish the technique.

if you pick up the leg they can't get up. thats also how gsp stopped bj penn from standing up when bj was on his back

  • @kingshahine @kingshahine

Yup, against an athletic guy or another BJJ-er, that is totally necessary, not to mention, passing the guard isn't THAT easy lol. However I'm sure they omitted this on purpose

I've trained at some places and I notice that some instructors do omit certain details on purpose not because they're trying to hide something or they forgot it but because many beginners would get discouraged/lost trying to learn all the details just for one move and quit out of frustration

  • @kingshahine Yeah on the hit but defiantly not on concrete...

  • Very useful sweep.

  • Alistair Overeem sure could've used this against Shogun lol

  • If he grabs your leg or Gi pant at the leg this can be modified by using two on one control on the arm/sleeve pulling his grip off and sweeping similarly but keeping the sleeve.

  • only problem is you are giving him your leg.

  • He is assuming the other guy doesn't know BJJ so he probably wont be going for a leg lock.

  • thats cool I guess. Even if he doesn't know a leg lock... he will still grab your leg and control you. I still think the technique is worth learning.

  • Yea thats true, sometimes you have to give up something to get a position, its not advisable, but sometimes its worth taking the risk.

If your opponent is standing over you, you could also do what Mir did.

search Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir

  • i dunno i've done this to guys who know more then alittle jits and it worked quite well.. just have to get your foot outa there

  • Also, if you know the guy standing is looking for leg holds in a street fight, up kicks to face, groin, knee whatever, work very well to deter it.

But these punch block series, sweeps work very well when a person on top just wants to punch your lights out....

3. No mesmo tempo, pega a pe' dele com seu mao e empurrar-lo e completar o sweep. Faz um tempo que falava e escrita portuguese. Espero que ajuda.

  • Great technique! I've seen Tito Ortiz defend himself like this several times, I just didn't see him try the sweep. The Gracies' make things look so easy, thanks.

  • very good sweep. after you establish side control you can finish fight with the kimura...or mount and then americana...etc

  • Can't they just back off a step or two, then you're on the ground and they're standing. Should you have a grip on them before trying this sweep?

  • This is more useful for someone who's being aggressive and coming at you. There are other techniques for when they're backing off.

  • fuckin awesome man

  • Great video on a technique that works very well. i have used this move a couple of times in matches. have to be quick with it though or the opponent will see it coming when he feels ur hand on his ankle.
