I spent 4 years as a Recon Marine, and have seen the work these contractors do. This isn't an easy job for them, they don't have air support or close artillery. Not all contractors do the right and moral thing, but most follow rules and strong laws. These are NOT civilians, most are former military men. Unless you work with contractors, have been their, or have served in Iraq, and I actually mean you have seen combat , you really dont understand. You need to start looking at govn laws.

A level is mandatory for ALL service members, B is primarily air crews, and C is SOF/Recon/Airmen. Airmen used to have a D level as well, but it's been phased out. I spent 4 years as a Recon Marine, and have seen the work these contractors do. This isn't an easy job for them, they don't have air support or close artillery. Not all contractors do the right and moral thing, but most follow rules and strong laws. These are NOT civilians, most are former military men. Unless you work with contractors, have been their, or have served in Iraq, and I actually mean you have seen combat , you really dont understand. You need to start looking at govn laws.

Before blackwater can do what they do they first have to file for a Federal Firearms License and you have to go thru ATF to get that. A back round check by the FBI and the State Department. Do realize that most of the payment that goes to these employees in Iraq are because of hazard pay paid directly from the government.
Blackwater does what the military/national guard shouldn't be doing, babysitting diplomats.

Blackwater assists/works on projects that are extremely dangerous and in many cases life threatening. As such high salaries are in order and rightfully so. Do you equate the type of work they do with minimum wage occupations? If so, you don't have a grip or appreciation of reality and risk/reward principles.

Troops also get medical for their families and pensions, college grants, home loans and much much more. These mercs get paid cash, no retirement, no 401k. That is why they get paid more. Hope this helps you think about the situation more.

to rjanis123, Blackwater Ops are still obligated to pay taxes under their contracts like every other American so if they're earning a lot they will loose alot too. They dont get health benefits or workers compensation if they get hurt either so hopefully their hardearned paychecks will kick in.
