HORRIBLE REVIEW. This thing is the biggest pile of shit i've ever used. Basically, with Dell and Vista combined you know you're in for shit. The core 2 duo processor in it can't run shit and will over heat with anything running. I can't even run world of warcraft on this piece of shit because of its SHIT wireless receiver. The bandwidth limit always reaches and then i cannot reconnect to my wireless router (when playing world of warcraft). I give this laptop a negative fuckin 10 out of 10.

I have the newer version of this. Its actually better then I had expected. But the one thing that sucks, is that when you charge it, it doesn't have a light to let you know when its charging. You have to turn it on and check the battery at the bottom to make sure it works.

the reason its slanted to the left is cuz most people assume that most people are left handed and you can type better with your right. thats why they plan for you to use your left hand for the track pad and your right for typing.

A lot of the trackpads on laptops are like that for some reason. I don't know why, but many of them are slightly to the left.

I have this laptop for a year and a half and it's never given me any problems. I highly recommend it. :)

A bad thing about that Laptop(My HP does the same), is the keyboard, it gets messy very quick, anyway for me, the buttons, and about my because its black on the top, so if my friends mostly just takes it with they finger tips, then it takes forever to clean of fingerprints XD. But your Laptop have a nice design :P like mine :D

Man, it costs a lot when you buy it from Dell. On Dell, ordering a 1420 exactly like I have now would have cost me $1200. I got it from Staples in town for $780. (Though I can't remember if that's with a wireless USB connector included, because I bought one of those at the same time.)

Listen, when you get Nvidia graphics on the 1420 you don't get the centrino platform. When you get intel x3100 graphics on the 1420 you get the centrino platform. If the 1420 only came with the centrino it would be much thinner like the 1525, hence the 1525 uses the centrino with no options for nvidia graphics.

Unfortunately, you are misguided. The "Centrino", delivered by Intel, is a platform consisting of a particular combination of CPU, mainboard chipset, and wireless network interface. This particular notebook (4th gen Centrino) consists of a socket P processor, Intel Mobile 965 Express chipset: PM965 WITH DISCRETE GRAPHICS and Intel WiFi Link 4965 AG mini-PCIe adapter. The discrete graphics card certainely does come courtesy of nVidia.

However, your most recent statement is also incorrect, as my machine (the one in this review - Dell Inspiron 1420) has an nVidia GeForce 8400 series graphics card as well as a "Centrino" sticker near the "bottom right corner" of the keyboard panel. It may not be clearly visible in the video. Check out Intel's, Dell's and Wikipedia's websites for more info. on the Centrino platform.

That is a difficult question for me to answer. While I don't have any experience with a VAIO laptop, there are many models available under the "VAIO" name (and each offers its own attractive design). The 14" CR model costs around $849 or so, more expensive than the base price of $599 for the 1420, however the base configuration for the CR is better equipped. If you are concerned only with price, I recommend the 1420, otherwise try both laptops out at your local retailer, then decide.

It depends on the type of games you wish to play. I would say no, as there are more "game-oriented" notebooks on the market. However, I do not play any games on my notebook, so I am no authoritarian on gaming. :)

he's fibbing in the description, that notebook does not have the NVIDIA graphics, if it did the sticker would say Core 2 Duo, not Centrino Duo, the Centrinos have the Intel x3100 graphics.
