@OneManTraveller Yeah. We went to one of the travel agencies. We found the cheapest trek, and my travel companion insisted on talking the price down a wee bit. They ended up upgrading us because they couldn't fill up the cheaper trek.
@OneManTraveller No recommendations. There was one street where lots of the travel agents were. I forgot the name, but I'm sure it's easy to find. We walked in a couple. They all offered the same or similar packages at similar prices. I would have liked to have done a longer trek, but the one we went on was fine. I'm glad we skipped the ones that included going to the "long neck" villages. I wouldn't mind going back someday.
Good enough for me, actually I'm not even looking forward to seeing the long-neck village. Just wanna ride the elephant and hiking the Chiang Dao Mountain. And I could visit such villages on my way passing by Mae Salong. BTW, how's the situation of English in Thai? how do U buy bus ticket and order in restaurants?
@OneManTraveller If you stay on the beaten track (Chiang Mai, Bangkok, etc)...where the tourists are, language isn't a problem at all. Many people speak quite English quite well. Of all the non-English speaking countries I've been to, Thailand is the easiest to get around. At the bus station in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, purchasing in English should be no problem.
@OneManTraveller ...please don't ride the elephants. Find a reserve such as Elephant Nature Park. The abuse those elephants go through is incredible cruel to get an elephant obey. Don't support this. Wouldn't you equally enjoy feeding and bathing the elephants?
@mooney47 hi im going out to thailand, laos, vietnam and cambodia this july and was wondering how much money you needed rougly each day, my friend says around 25 pounds. is that enough?
@lukasWZ I think it was something like 20 USD a person. We found the absolute cheapest tour and then, since they couldn't fill it up, they upgraded us to a better tour with more people. Have fun.
do you pause the camera and continue the video , or do you take separetly and combine before uploading ?? . im new to making the movies with a little digital camera
@Foorehtnossip Everything is edited after I get back home. There's a lot of instructional videos on youtube how to do it. If you enjoy doing it, I think editing home videos is worth it.
@chachris08 Not sure which agent. There's lots of them in Chiang Mai. And they all work with the same guides. We picked the cheapest tour and they ended up upgrading us to a better one. It was two days, one night. This was a standard trip: elephants, bamboo rafts, 'Hmong' village. Have fun if you're going to Chiang Mai. Message me if you have any questions.
im doing Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia for 6 weeks soon. has anyone got any last minute tips or travel advice for me as i have never done anything like this before! many thanks.
One thing I've done wrong before is not planning ahead. In my opinion, if you think through your itinerary in detail ahead of time, you take better advantage of your time. Sounds like you already have a good idea of your itinerary.
I forgot to reply to this comment. No, we didn't get vaccinations. Although, generally when traveling I have not been diligent about getting vaccinated, so it I also thought about taking anti-malarials, but heard the side effects outweigh the benefits.
@mooney47 Im going to Thailand in 2 weeks and im headed to Chiang Mai early in my trip. And im really interested in doing exactly what you did in this video. How do I do something like this? Because ill have no idea where to go but id love to do this with other people. It looks awesome.
There are lots of outfits in Chiang Mai that you can trek with. In the center of Chiang Mai, where all the backpacker stuff is, you can find lots of agents with signs and stuff in English. We just stopped in a couple and saw what they offered. The treks vary in length and what's included (rafting, elephants, villages, etc). My wife and I ended up in a group with about 10 other travelers. You can send me a message directly if you have any other questions. Have fun in Thailand.
i like tuk tuks too but i hate riding elephatnts, we went trekking with noi from chang mai just one guide and me and my friend, we didnt see any tourists for 3 days
Hey! 20USD is proper reasonable cheap price for the 1 day trekking. How did U go? booked by Chiangmai local travel agency? or go urself
