  • oerformed this piece during the summer of 1971 with the american youth symphony and chorus. took a lot of work to lean and eventually memorize, but grew to love this piece. as an adult, now (i was a teenager back then) i can appreciated the mystical quality of RVW music and whitman's poetry. it was a transforming experience for a 16 yr. odl. i still know it almost by heart.

  • This piece was something that really took time to learn, but when it came together with the orchestra-it hit the very core of my soul to sing and be a part of . I grew to love it, and am so glad it was finally on YouTube to enjoy!

  • I just sang this piece as a member of the Buffalo Choral Arts Society with the Cheektowaga Symphony. The performance was dedicated to the victims of the crash of flight 3407. It was one of the most incredibly moving experiences of my life.

  • me too! i couldn't stand it until we actually performed it with the orchestra. then i loved it.

  • I performed this with the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts Choir back in the 80's. One of the most darkly beautiful pieces ever.

  • I had almost forgotten what it was like..... and uh, nice timpani, S. LOL.

  • I sang in this performance and I am so happy to see it here on youtube! I sang with the LMU Chorale under the direction of Paul Salamunovich from 1986-90 and it was some of my best memories of college. He is such a gifted conductor and I am so proud to have been a part of his choir.

  • Well you guys did a great job! I'm playing in the orchestra in a concert on Saturday, and we're doing this and Beethoven's 9th. Should be pretty special.

  • p.s. 5:33 onwards is amazing!!

    :D

  • WOW!!!

    these guys do it justice!!

i performed at the Royal Albert Hall with a mass choir, and we sang this!

It literally sends shivers down your spine!

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!

    (:

  • Sometime in the 1950s, I tried out for the kids choir under Dr. S. at St Charles Borromeo Church in N. Hollywood, CA. Never in a million years. Went on to a higher calling as an acolyte. I'm gone, he's still there. Call St Charles to get a copy of their Christmas CD. Classic.

  • I tried out for the kids' choir sometime in the 1950s at St. Charles Borromeo Church in N. Hollywood, CA. and the good dr. was presiding at that time. Never in a million years! Went on to a higher calling as an acolyte. I'm gone, he's still there. Contact the church to get a copy of the parish's Christmas CD under his baton. Classic.

  • LMU (of Los Angeles) combined choirs is performing this piece on May 2, 2008 in an 8:00 pm. concert at the LMU Chapel, where this video was taped. Come see the 2008 concert!

  • MY MISTAKE. The LMU concert is SATURDAY May 3, 2008 at the LMU chapel in Westchester CA.

  • Pretty good.

I found the voicists to be too loud compaired to the harpist.

  • lol

  • "Oh Joy" I've been waiting for this piece to show up on YT. Thank you for sharing this tremendous work by RVW. I've sung under maestro Salamunovich and he is truly a gifted choral man. Talked with him in 11/08 and is truly a gracious man. If you have any other videos of Paul S. please upload them. Another great choral work by RVW is the 'Dona Nobis Pacem' cantata which is hardly ever performed, but has become one of my most favorite works in all of classical literature.
