If people can't decide within a couple months who they think they should be voting for then there are some serious issues happening and should be looked at. I think the actual voting season is too short. Think about it; the nominee will be decided by early March and voting begins in January. It is the runup to the election that is excessively long. Time was (30 years ago)you didn't know who the nominee would be until the convention in July or August. That made for more compromise and better candidates; wider public involvement.

Thanks for the insight as to when the nominees were picked backed then! The way they did it back then is somewhat similar to the system we have here in Canada to some degree. The runup to the election is definitely too long, I couldn't agree more. Here in Canada we basically already know who will be running for Prime Minister and then it's usually a matter of 8 weeks and then the election is decided. Much the same time as the actual voting takes down there for you folks. Have a good one. :)
