@cliff250 Hi there, no not really, the LP64 is a compressor of sorts but the multiband includes a multiband eq, hence the name, so it is perfectly ok to use them side by side, you will however get a much more compressed sound.
You're fucking awesome! I've learned much more than I expected to by watching your videos. Thank you so much, I really do appreciate the videos! You sir, have made my week.
I really enjoy your videos. Cakewalk should hire you to do all of their tutorials. I'm in the process of mastering four (4) songs for a mini cd (Japanese market). Do you have any tips for mastering albums? Thanks again. Kayode
@NinjaTrack The one thing I would suggest is to, once you have mastered all your songs individually, bounce each one down, and then import all four of them into one project as whole songs and check the levels of each song against another to make sure then volume and sound is constant through-out your songs. Other than that, its all about self preference and communication with the artists and producers. Cheers :)
I'm really newb but how did you get a guitar riff in your Sonar? I looked at all my soft synth instrumetns and I don't have any guitars. I only have bass. Help?
@ericjamesharlow Im pretty sure all the guitar parts in my tutorials were recorded myself, no guitar samples were used, or midi. there are samples with Sonar though, you need to browse the 'browser' in the 'browse media' tab. Cheers :)
@MCIHomeStudio Where, can you give me a directive. I've literally gone through the MIDI tracks via the browser and the leads etc. and I can't find an electric guitar pattern. In addition, is there anyway to get an electric guitar synth so I can make my own notes with the electric guitar? I just started buy my song requires an E guitar and I don't have one and can't afford to buy another software. thanks!
@ericjamesharlow hi there, sorry i didnt really explain myself clearly last time. What you require i dont think you will find in the browser, if you want to record your own guitar patterns, and specific notes. Ive heard that you can use guitar rig with a keyboard. But you may want to look at dreamvortex.co.uk/instruments/ and look for dvs guitar. there are also lots of others there. Hope this was more helpful :)
@MCIHomeStudio awesome I found dvs guitar, just what I was looking for. So where would I drag that into? soft synth instruments? or should I make a new folder or something. I really appreciate your help!
@ericjamesharlow Hi, there should be a .dll file in the download, if so, go to your -> Program Files -> Cakewalk -> Vst plugins folder and drop the file in there. It should recognise it automatically next time you start Sonar, if notyou will have to head to your Utilities -? Cakewalk Manager in Sonar and 'Scam Vst Plugins' Cheers :)
great indepth tutorials, i really want to get into doing this sort of thing myself, sonar seems to be the way to go. Can I ask you how you actually recording your guitar playing into Sonar. What are you using to connect your guitar to your computer? Also, all those effects you are using, are they part of the X1 producer software? Did you create the drumtrack using the X1 producer exclusively?
@chiphead777 Hi there, for audio recordings, and while I am at home, I use the Multimix 8 USB mixer, for midi recordings such as the drums you mentioned I used the M-Audio KeyRig 49. This is some of what I use when I am at home as it is all very small and mobile. I highly recommend the KeyRig, although there are better mixers now than the Multimix 8. But it depends what your budget is. Sonar Pro also comes with a big browser full of midi and audio samples too, :) cheers
@MCIHomeStudio cheers for the quick answer :) i dont want to sound thick but i am a very computer illiterate, so the Multimix 8 that ur using bypasses the soundcard in ur computer? ive only got a mid range laptop so im not sure if it can cope with the high processing power I expect this software and hardware is gonna require. Also, as ur playing the drums on ur midi keyboard, can u laydown each drum track separately, so i could record the kick, and then record the hi hat separately? thanks
@chiphead777 hi there, absolutely, infact recording the drums like that is exactly the way you should do it. And yes, the multimix 8 has a build in sound card and you configure sonar to work with this rather than the internal sound card in your computer. If you are using a laptop however, i would recommend something more like the Pro Tools Audio 'Interface', it works with sonar and is smaller and does the same thing more or less. :)
Sonar X1 is NOT just a home program because you cab use it at home. It is a high end DAW. Not a toy or a "make me a star NOW" presets. I don't think a beginner should go into X1 at all. You are REALLY going to dive into the deep end that has snakes and sharks.
Just gets me how people complain about the learning curve. Hey, ya have to learn the program. ALso, you never stop learning if you are a pro. I have YET to learn a DAW and as soon as I do, I'm complaining about it's limitations.
@101AOK I agree that having previous experience with past Sonar DAW's will give you a good head start with X1, but I think that X1 so different from many others that beginners will take advantage of this. Every one has to start somewhere, sometimes delving in with the sharks is the best way to over come them. But I see your point, cheers for the comment
hi im new to Sonar x1, and i was wondering if you could help me make something that i cant seem to do. i need to figure out how to create a REVERSE cymbal hit or Snare hit. Cubase is much different than Sonar. Any Help? i REALLY need it : /
@AntMcCNBD Hi there, first things first, take your cymbal sample, and select it, then go to the 'Process' tab at the top and then 'Apply Effect' and select 'reverse' at the bottom. Simple :) Hope this helps.
@ArkAngelHFBGames Im sorry you feel that way. Some programs are just not for some people. If you do need any help understanding it however, I will be more than happy to help, cheers :)
I had a question for you how do I get Knotakt 4 to work in Sonar X1 Producer, because I think I tried everything I can think of to play it and it just won't show up in my Sonar X. Please help me out I need to use it.
Thanks so much for these wonderful tutorials MCIHomeStudio....you've explained things very clearly and quite precisely enough that anyone can understand & appreciate them. Keep it up....you're enhacing my X1 experience!!
@anfranman Thsnk you, im glad they help. Im just about to make some more, after my long absence from it all. I will be coming back to it, cheers for watching :)
This really helped me thanks! I am a self taught audio engineer and I have been using Sonar since Sonar 4 and they have made some great changes. Pro Tools is so over rated, but that's just my opinion. thefoneboofstudios.bandcamp.com
I Have a Question, I use FL Studio as my DAW, but when I render my final Wav file, can I still master in Sonar to get it more clear?

It's crap....
non user freindly and overly controlling...
a nightmare of a program to get into...
if you can break through the BS then maybe you might like it...
I gave up just trying to get it to run in 24 bit depth at 9600 rate... it seemed to want to force me to record and work in 16 bit 44100...
not bad... but shit for a $100 price tag... Mixcraft 4 is better than this... and Mixcraft is pretty meh...
