nice sound... i've been researching this recently and have put together everything I can find about cesar's mods for srv's super reverbs. there are a lot more major ones that affect sound a lot more than caps. if anyone's interested you can contact me for further info
@Ericclapton325 Contrary to popular belief, stevie didn't use a tube screamer all the time, and he didn't always use the TS808. He used a TS9, and TS10 on multiple occasions. But a tubescreamer does help
@Ericclapton325 That was very rare for him to do so. His guitar tech said he usually would change the tone knob to make it sound more intense. You can hear that on Love Struck Baby. He never really used both of them at once all the time, he had the pedals set one for a high tone with a lot of treble and one with it leveled out in the center.
But yes, I'd assume he used it for songs like voodoo chile.
I have a metro jtm45 and its loud but my drummer drowns it out not being miced or anything just playing like that. Will a super be drowned do you think?
I know when I haven't played in a while my creativity is at it's highest too. Seems like that's what was happening here. Nice tribute to axis bold as love, I vibe off of that song too.
Haha and thats the reason the right Fender amp is one of the best things you can get. I'd like to see a new amp company "claim an try" to emulate this sound with modeling and tricks. I'll confident to say ever with a big fat period. DR Z's and the right Plexi are also great to because they are.. other than that I'm still listening and dreaming.
My 1967 Super Reverb is sooooo friggin' loud that I have to play it in the next room! At "5" it will rattle the fillings in your teeth. How far away are you from the amp when you are playing it. Is your Super Reverb breaking up at "3" or so? I'd like to know at what number the volume knob is on and if you are using any outboard "tube screamer' type stuff.
The distortion is as SWEET as cherry pie and the playing is top notch!
OMG! That amp sounds beautiful!! I have a 70-71 Silverface SR. I love the hell out of it! These SR's are just great. I know more people like the BF SR's but I love all of them!
Those tweaks your amp tech did sure did the trick!!
What's that song that starts at 0:52? It sounds Hendrixy to me, but I don't know it... Love the sound and playing by the way, you have a great feel to it.
lol thats just a bracelet dude. he has that on all the time and never takes it off.yah hes good on guitar.you should see him play in person.I see him every week
i built for DiazAmplification in 2004/5, that really sounds GREAT!! Got to build Warren (2) WH SPECIALS!! THE FIRST NEW DIAZ CD-100 BUILT AFTER CESAR PASSED AWAY WAS PLAYED BY WARREN ON THE CONAN O`BRIEN SHOW APRIL 05, THE COMMENTS ON THAT AMP CAN BE SEEN AT HARMONY CENTRAL UNDER USER REVIEWS. RANDY SHERTZ, IF YOU READ THIS, I LOVE YOU MAN!!!
... I think thats just a bracelet. I could be mistaken. But if you have wrist pain you should probably reconsider the form by which you hold the neck.
How much did you pay for your super? I am about to pay $1500 for a 68 blackface circuitry super. Also where you lurn dat jimi baybay. I want to be that good.
wich wcr pickup model you are using?i have a vibroverb custom..but i dont have this tone on cesar diaz mod.you only use diaz mod?any tube are repleaced?5751?thanks,.
1. taking out the vibrato effect from the circuit. i did it with a switchable poti, so there are no extra holes to drill into a vintage beauty and - if needed you can use the vibrato with a flick of a switch.
Will lead to a plus of power and tone.
2. In order to increase the low end stability at very very high volumes Stevies Amps had a solid state Rectifier instead of the Tube.
Preamps and power? NOS or production? Sounds like NOS. You got a good (BFSR) going they are not all the same.
Gave up looking. Will not buy without playing it. The ones in stores are 2K/need work. Settled on CVR and my missions tweed deluxe.
I like the Jensens RI p10r's - they have to break in and I just roll back the treble a bit. Also like to hear the others you mentioned. People used to rave about 2x weber C10N on botton and 2x P10Q on top.
I am currently using those Jensen RI's which are a little harsh in the high end when pushed. I am eventually going to experiment with some EV's, JBL's, Rajun Cajuns. I would love to get my hands on some original vintage Jensen's, but you know how that goes.
I'm going to favorite this because I like your tone! I've got a '66 with CTS alnico speakers. Since i hammer it with a humbucker Les Paul, I'm looking into ceramic speakers. Let us know about what speakers you try!
I am a strat player and want the CTS alnicos. I have a set of the Jensen RI C10Qs in my BFSR and they have to be pushed a bit to hit the sweet spot with my low output pickups. You and your humbucker might love em...
If you google "cesar diaz mods", there will be articles and such. Tone Request did an interview with Cesar where he mentions the mods he performed. I simply sent my amp up to Tyler Grund to mod my amp and it came back sounding really good :)

@ironweeds If you can't hear a JTM45 or a Super Reverb over your drummer then you need a new drummer.

Thats a really nice guitar tone! And i think that the harshness & edge added by the Jensen RI is a nice bonus. Makes it raw.

someone asked for the cd mods -
simple - the two main mods are:
1. taking out the vibrato effect from the circuit. i did it with a switchable poti, so there are no extra holes to drill into a vintage beauty and - if needed you can use the vibrato with a flick of a switch.
Will lead to a plus of power and tone.
2. In order to increase the low end stability at very very high volumes Stevies Amps had a solid state Rectifier instead of the Tube.
I tried both and stayed with the tuberecti.

actually, it takes a bit. most fender amps take a bit to break up. and since the SR is 45 watts, it's gonna be LOUD!
