@HGM1138 You're right, of course, HGM! I must have been dazzled by the mention of "Pinafore" in the lyrics and lost my mind for a minute. Thanks for bringing me back to reality, sir.
As Les Dawson used to say, " All together now!" Sounding pompous is the easy bit, singing it at tempo is a lot harder, just as as we are shown here - the chorus seem to manage it a lot better though!
Better recordings around to buy, with REAL music too. Hope this "dumbing down" isn't going to happen to everything.
@cuddlyable3 That's the point. G&S patter songs have always been updated to keep them topical. They were written as topical satire and it's only right that they remain so, rather than preserving them in aspic where they are considerably less accessible and funny.
@crippmeister I shall not argue over what you claim is "only right" because that is a matter of taste. But it is fraud to present one's own words as a classic work of W.S.Gilbert. You are also wrong to claim that G&S patter songs are always updated. You need only look around in YouTube to find performers dedicated to singing them as written. Obviously someone, if not yourself, takes the trouble to access and share them PROPERLY.
@cuddlyable3 Perhaps you misunderstood my use of the word 'always'. I am not implying that every time a patter song is performed someone makes up new words for it. You are indeed correct, many choose not to for reasons of taste or practicality. But writing new and topical lyrics to Gilbert and Sullivan is a tradition as old as the songs themselves. Koko's list song from the Mikado in particular is rarely performed in its original form, and updating it has become one of the great G&S traditions.
What crap

The "Llama, llama, duck" song!?

I think they must have been lip-synching - the chorus has a much fuller sound than 3 women and 1 man and where is the orchestra hiding?

@FatalexMaestra Lol, the Major-General is usually a non-singers part.

This is not a very good performance of it at all - far far better renditions of it to be had

Gilbert and Sullivan's work making a comeback? I didn't know it had ever been away!

I'm sorry, but a recording that uses synthesizer instead of orchestra is NOT a major release. Hardly a G&S renaissance, is it?

@RossiniSoprano well where the hell do expect them to put a full G&S orcestra in the stuido?!
