  • That works in Low IMC (IFR) Conditions as well?

  • This is a single band IR sensor. Yes, it IMPROVES situational awareness, however, it does not provide 'Landing Credits'. The OEM has plans on the 3rd gen unit (planned fit/form identical) possessing the capabilities of providing landing credits.

  • Okay. So that means in low visibility it still provider the pilots more sutuational awareness! Can be a good instrument on those low IMC hard ILS days.

    Patrick

  • Absolutely. Not only during the approach/landing phases of the flight, either. During taxi'ing, and take off, it also helps quite a bit.

In addition to aiding in the 'locating' of the airport during approach, it will also aid in runway incursion detection, such as if an aircraft taxi's onto the runway ahead of you, if animals (Deer, Birds, etc.) pose a threat, etc.
