@AmandaKayHowell Seems fine to me. In fact, this almost seems like 40's burlesque, making it a little old for this, if anything. I always wondered why the burlesque/cabaret shows in productions of Guys and Dolls were so innocent. She's a couple of steps above a stripper and men go to see her half-naked. They should be this racy, in my opinion.
@howrseroxs15 Like I said, it doesn't seem right for the era! The dresses look 40's & what's under them looks like stuff teens were wearing in the 1990's, lol! But it may be correct for the period... it just makes me think the 90's. I agree, it's suppose to be a little racy but I'm thinking you have to conceder your audience… The rest of the show is mainly G or PG so taming this down makes it fairly appropriate for children making it more of a family show & better for conservative audiences.
@LeBlondebean Ah, don't worry too much. I'm doing an excerpt of this song for Pop Show this year. We're dressing up in flapper dresses, and dancing CUTELY. XD No stripping allowed!
hmmm, so they are strippers then? My daughter's theater company is doing this show next year, and neither her or I have ever seen it. This version is a lot different than most I have watched.
I'm doing guys and dolls in the spring, and this is honestly the reason I'm excited for it. Jane brings a life to Adelaide that I haven;t seen anywhere else, she's so inspiring!
so amazing! I wish there was a video of her singing Adelaide's Lament...
I am auditioning for adelaide in my G&D musical at school
i must learn Bushel and a Peck AND Adelaide's Lament, PLUS 4 pages of lines to audition to go to the call backs. I have to do a NY accent, AND IDK what A flat to high D flat sounds like! WHAT DO I DO?
This is wonderful! The production I am currently in ( I am a HotBox girl) took a few of these moves, but this is a perfect rendition of how Bushel and Peck should be done! Brilliant job.
I worked on this run at the Piccadilly Theatre as a follow spot. That is Ewan McGregor as Sky and Jane Krawkowski was Adelaide...She was Brilliant and was was Ewan. Doug played Nathan...This was a brilliant bunch of people to work with...Summer Strallon was in this too and last time we spoke, she was in Sound of Music. I miss this show.
@luvdogs4life66 Yeah but she's a real bitch. Saw this show and she came out and saw everyone standing around. She said: "Fuck no" and turned and left.
It takes place in the late 40's/early 50's. There's mention of bobby soxers in the script and a lyric in "Take Back Your Mink" goes "that was late '48, I recall". And I don't think she means 1848...
they did this at our high school and the elementary schools got to go watch when i was in fourth grade. And they actually did take off their clothes which was really funny cause all the boys were really excited and shocked!
i love this version! the only thing wrong is that i can't make myself believe that adelaide has been engaged for 14 years, she looks at most 25, and not many people get engaged at 11 years old 0_o
Haha very interesting comment saying that Jane Krakowski is "at most 25 years old". In actual fact she is 40 years old and when she did this show in 2006 she was 37 years old. That would be right on the money as I am concerned as Miss Adelaide is meant to be 35 years old.
I hope you don't check ID at pubs for a living as you'd be in trouble.
lol im really bad with ages. i wasnt saying Jane though, I was saying the way she was portraying Adelaide. She still did very great though, different from any Adelaide i've seen. Did you see her live?
I did actually, she did a fantastic job. I agree with you that in this song she plays a niaive, sexy younger women but that is just the character in the song i.e. sexy, young and niaive farm girl.
I thought the rest of her performance was gave the impression of a more worldly women who has been around the traps a few times.
wow, lucky! I love guys and dolls so much just because it can be played in so many different ways. I was so upset when they didn't make a soundtrack for this version! The orchestrations are incredible!
Attention everybody: Your high school/ community theatre production is not better than this nearly perfect revival. Adelaide is supposed to be a burlesque dancer, a style that is characterized by parody, humor and wit. She's not a stripper.
@byrnegirl141 actually, adelaide is supposed to be a sort of stripper type dancer. in some shows during take back your mink, she is supposed to take her clothes off. so she acutally is a stripper type thing
Don't like this portrayel of Adelaide =( Adelaide is meant to be quite old but fiery and classy- not young, 'sexy' and skinny. Faith Prince is by far the best x
The director for my school's production managed to get an advanced showing. She said that she didn't like it at all. The Hot Box is apparantly now a legitimate strip club.
i dont like this version! it is suppose to be comedic, not sexy!!! AND WHAT IS UP WITH THIS MUSIC?!?!?! They need to get the 1992 broadway cast to show these ppl how to do it right!!!
