Bed Bug Mattress Encasement Study (Part 3 of 3)

I just installed a Protect-a Bed encasement. Instructions say to have two people install it and to not drag box spring or mattress across the floor when encasement in installed. Well, there not kidding, I installed it by myself, and sure enough I ended up with a small tear on the corner. I taped it up to fix the hole. The encasement is fragile so install it very carefully. I also installed my old cotton one sided mattress protector over top the bed bug encasement to protect it.

Good information. I just hope that the product does what it is supose to. My apartment block has bed bugs now. I caught one last week in my apartment I don't think there in my bed yet (I HOPE) I will be getting a mattess and box spring cover real soon!

I would also agree with the person above. It would be nice to see other preventitive methods. Also the effectiveness of celite, freezing and steaming the bugs as these are commonly discussed methods for killing them.

Freezing does not work. You can freeze a bedbug for longer than two weeks, thaw them out and they come back to life.

COLD DOES NOT KILL THEM ONLY HEAT AND POISON.

It would be nice to have further study on chemical treatments both commercial and homemade. Both as contact killers and residual.

I've also wondered at the effectiveness of bodystockings, bug tents, and even Deet (bugspray) for protection with the theory that if the bloodmeal is prevented then the colony will essentially just starve even though they have free movement in the environment.
