JUST MISSED!!! "Zorba The Greek" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 12 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1965/66, it had entered the charts on Dec. 25th, 1965!!!!!!
growing up, my parents listened to lots of Herb Albert - so then did I. I love Zorba and am so glad to have this Herb Albert version - thanks for uploading!
Herb is a of Russian Jewish Heritage, much like Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles...he'd saw a Bullfight in Tijuana, and loved the Marachi band that played there,so,he'd asked his friend Jerry Moss, who, with Alpert, formed A&M Records, after their first names,to ask Sol Lake to write in this tradition, and PRESTO! "The Lonely Bull (El Solo Toro)" was born!
My kids & I danced to this until we dropped. I love Herb & Lani Alpert. Herb was my manager with Lou Adler & they produced all of our first recordings. He is one of the greatest humanitarians in America. Google: Don Drowty Project Touch.Com
& check out some of our 35 free programs for special children sponsored by Herb & all at A & M. We have been volunteers for 50 years. Don Drowty/Dante & The Evergreens. Type it in on you tube.
Heard this song alot in the early part of 1975 when in the 7th grade. Was walking thru Wal-Mart yesterday and this song came into my mind.Have not heard this song in over 35 years

@MrPaulwaller70 I also like Alpert's version, though he did not write the song. That was the great Mikis Theodorakis.
