Anyway, policy has it that the person who puts you through the scanners will never look at the pictures scanned. Another person in another enclosed room view the pictures from a computer screen, without ever seeing the person. Then, they will relay information if they spot anything that might be suspicious, and will alert the person giving the scan.

The government approves of this method, so there isn't really an issue. Even if they do 'like' these pictures, the pictures must be either kept for legal use, or they are deleted after since they are cleared.

I have done the research and radiation exposure is not cumulative. With sufficient amount of time, the body can recover from exposure to radiation. Again, that's why astronauts were able to get through the Van-Allen belts and why someone who goes to the beach every other week is not going to get skin cancer.

Genetic differences do play a part, but if radiation exposure was cumulative, which it's not, then everyone would eventually get skin cancer.

Backscatter xray imaging is NOT dangerous and you get more radiation from the sun than you do from the imager.

Second, forcing these scans to stop terrorists is crap. You're more likely to die at work from a peanut allergy than you are from a terrorist attack.

In any situation, there is no absolute line to declare dangerous and not-dangerous. It's all about the degree of exposure. We had astronauts passing through the Van-Allen belts for a limited amount of time and they are doing well and have not gotten cancer from it.

Any amount of x-ray can have an effect on DNA but it all depends on how much X-ray exposure you've had and how many DNA structures have been affected by said exposure.

You have more exposure from driving than these.

I've had dental work and I know what you are talking about. The dentists get out of the room because long term exposure to low levels of radiation is more dangerous than short term exposure of high levels of radiation.

They place the apron on you for your piece of mind. In the past the radiation levels were higher and longer but with today's technology the amount is very low and equal to about a half-day's worth of cosmic radiation.

OK because i know a thing or two about this i'll comment. Notice how the bones and organs aren't showing on those pictures? This is because this isn't a really dangerous radiation, it doesn't get deep into the tissue. However, X-rays are harmful and there is no telling what damage those techniques will do to surface tissues, like the skin. It isn't good to be exposed very often! Plus the privacy issue... anyway, i'd rather be strip searched :P
