Wow this version sounds a lot different than the Guan PingHu version. Is this becaue of the notation style for guqin music, or more of a personal interpretation thing?

It is the same song yes, the song is just a different variation of it played by Liu Li in Hero. The reason why it may be hard to hear that it's the same is that in Hero a symphony orchestra is playing with him.

a good guqin is in thousands of U.S. dollars. a qin that makes noise can be bought for about 300 U.S. in china, but if you are in the U.S. you probably have to order one offline.

You can attempt to replicate one with a guitar and the right strings. Ive seen a video of someone who did that and it sounds pretty close.

Gong Yi is truly a great player,right in the Traditional Chinese style.The GuQin is a sensational instrument in the hands of a great master.This instrument was made around the year 1200 and everyone of the great masters who have played it has signed it on the back!!
