@nickeldeonrules1011 I feel sorry for young people who don't know the wonder we felt back then. Seeing computer games for the first time, when they simply hadn't existed throughout the whole of history previous to that time. It was special.
@nickeldeonrules1011 Yeah right... I'm not *that* old. Though I was very aware of the Cold War, and I can tell you, it was scary... and nothing even happened in that one.
@nickeldeonrules1011 Like I said, I'm 43, and this game was made in 1982. I started gaming around 1972, on electromechanical arcade games... before even Pong had hit the UK shores, and long before Space Invaders.
@muxmedia7 Before the 80s Crash, which didn't really affect the UK that much anyway, about £30 per game in the UK. That converts to nearly $60, though I don't know if they actually cost that in the US.
Plus, it saved a LOAD of trouble. To play a game back then, you had to go to an Arcade. HAD to. Not only would you need quarters, but permission to go to. And it wouldnt happen immediately unless your parents did everything for you. But when the Atari came out, people were impressed that you could play at home.
I can just hear it now: "Where's all the lens flare?" "Where's the shit brown/ gunmetal gray backgrounds?" "These movements don't look motion captured?" "Where's Spiderman's super armor?" "Where's Spiderman's crew-cut hair and beard stubble?" "Where's the regenerating health?" "How come I can't tea bag people" "Why doesn't this have world-wide death match multiplayer?" "Why is this so linear?"
And the most hilarious, "This doesn't look or feel realistic!" Did I hit the nail on the head?
Thanks for saying that, because this game idea was ripped off from me and my older brother and it makes me sick that someone else is taking the credit for this!
it stood head a shoulders over so many of the other games for the 2600. that was the the great thing about the 2600 - the vast array of level of quality from the terrible to the brilliant like this.
Ah, the 80's. "Spider-pixel, Spider-pixel." Okay, that's all I can come up with. Goblin looks very non-threatening. "Watch out! He'll throw DOTS at you!"
i kinda feel soorrry for old people and there video games they didnt get good graphics back then

@SteveBenway cuz just like 5 minutes of gameplay isnt worht 60 dollars in my opinion O.o unless u replayed that 5 minutes hundreds of times
muxmedia7 1 year ago
@muxmedia7 Well yes, but back in the day, that's exactly what people did.
Games were all about hi-scores, so you'd play the same thing over and over, to see if you could beat your own best score.
It certainly seems insane now, but back then that's all there was, so it seemed entirely normal.
SteveBenway 1 year ago 3
@SteveBenway Not only for the highscore but games like this were fun for hours. And at the next day you wanted to start again. Good old times...

The question is, given how far things have come in 30 years, where will they be 30 years from now?
