Those chips on eBay are useless unless you have the exact mods it was designed for. A Well mapped car will return good economy when cruisng, and give good power on boost - they are 2 different parts of the map, you dont need 2 maps. If you have a proper ECU, your mapper can do you maps for different things, eg a drag racing map can be a lot more aggressive than track map, just because the track map has to do flat out for 30mins, and the drag map only for a handful of seconds.
Or maybe you can afford to use race fuel on the drag strip, but not on a trackday and can run different maps for different fuels to maximise your power.
Nobody has broke a Apex conrod, its revs thats more problematic than torque, and my car revs to 8000. I wouldnt expect a problem whatever your doing, as long as your car is mapped properly, well maintained with good oil suitable for whatever use you need ect ect
can you pls give me some addvise i too have an s13 with a ca18det engine but in the new year i am going to start making so changes now should i keep the ca (and same money for more parts/changes) or put in the sr in plus what can i take them to hp wise befor it gets unsafe (ca & sr) i no i goto have to change pistons and con rods turbo injet so on and so on
If you just want around 350bhp, its easier and more reliable to get that from the SR20DET, with all standard internals. Something like a GT2871R turbo, some 260 cams, and mapping and your sorted with the SR20DET.
If your going past 400bhp, your going to have to do the internals, and gearbox of either engine. The SR being newer is easier to get the parts easily for, the CA is harder work, will always be laggier, but happier revving by design. So it comes down to your choice, probably the SR20DET
i see...thnx for the info.you said u just answered that but its not posted.u mean your car has stock bottom in the videos??quite impressive.i would like to call there but i dont live in England im from Greece :(
No, my engine is far from stock, it has Apex conrods, Wiscoe pistons, Tomei cams, Cometic metal head gasket, and its all lightened, knifedged, balanced etc.
your ca18det is a beast.mate i think you are suitable to answer my question.can you give me a clear answer on how much can the stock internals handle??rods, pistons (head gasket changed)
I'm sure I just answered this, but its not posted ???
Rods and Pistons will take 350-400bhp, if you mapping is good and safe. Mapping is THE most important thing.
Chances of finding a "good" CA18DET ready for that power in standard trim, 15 years into its life are slim though. So you'll probably need to refresh the bearings at least, unless you find a 50,000 miler somewhere!!
You can call Apex Performance for advise too, maybe even speak to me ;) 01274 683633
