  • What exactly happened, couldn't make out almost anything. Did he win by submission or did they guy just give up because fo the bloody nose?

  • @RedHerod He submitted him with an armbar.

  • @magikman2000 Also, I believe his nose was broken.

  • "Breathtaking Video! Great Skills

How Small Guys Beat GIANTS in BJJ

    MicroBJJ (dot) com"

  • did you record this with a potato?

  • hey isn't this clip edited?

if i remember correctly pedro get pounded for the whole fight untile he catches lance in an armbar his second time. it's been years since i saw this fight, i could be wrong.

props to Pedro but please upload the full clip.

i also heard that Lance is very humble and his not as heavy.

i'm not taking anything away from Pedro at all. I'm happy that he defended his art.

  • @lordaten You're a joker, mate. He got armbarred. He was done.

  • Wow, this was back when pedro was a 2nd degree black belt.

  • never take a gracie to the ground...

  • Please remember that this fight happened before we all had the luxury of watching UFC 1 and learning that BJJ is where it's at. This video happened before the days where people would have NHB fights in America. Pedro Sauer talks of the days where they used to defend Helio's Jiu-Jitsu and guys used to show up to their gym looking to fight, and they would lock the doors and "see if the thing works."

  • This was only 1994, why is the video quality so bad?

  • Pedro Sauer is the man.

  • I train under the guy who actually took this video, and he still has the original copy of it. His name is Anibal Lobo, he teaches at Oregon Martial Arts, and you should totally check it out.

  • @realpsycho4 Helio Gracie always said that a martial art should be judged by it's weakest students, not its finest athletes. Just because you can find instances in which a supreme athletic college wrestler beat a jiu-jitsu guy, doesn't mean that it is the norm or that wrestling is better. The fact of the matter is, a GJJ blue belt will more times than not submit a HS state champion wrestler not trained in the art of submission grappling.

  • @realpsycho4 Pedro barely got hit in the face.... when he did, his head was off the ground (meaning room to absorb the blow) and he was also delivering strikes from his back. There are a lot of arm bars other than the traditional one leg over the face one leg over the body.... This happens to be one of them. It was very clear from the position that he was in a very tight armbar, and had it been called due to the strike, you would have seen some form of protest...

  • @xmanrules I find you lack of intelligence disturbing. You are correct, Matt Hughes is NOT a black belt in BJJ but smart and strong enough to beat black belted BJJ twigs at their own game. Also, the video does NOT show a set arm bar by the bath robed guy. The video does NOT show tapping. It shows the bath robed guy scurrying away, and trying to set an arm bar. Once Pedro started getting punched in the face the match was called.

  • @RealPsycho4 The tap is at 4:31

  • This video doesn't show anything. I'll take some love taps and hugs from the guy in his bath robe over punches from the Hulk any day. Brazilian Gay Jitsu is super lame, all i have to say to all you BJJ worshipers is MATT HUGHES!! BJJ may win occasionally but all American muscle is where it's at.

  • @RealPsycho4 Hey dumb shit Matt Hughes is also a practitioner of BJJ. All mma fighters practice BJJ. The video shows that a man out weighed by a 100 solid pounds can beat a bigger man. If he didn"t tap his arm would've been broken and he wouldv'e gotten beat even worse because he wouldve been a one armed fighter the rest of the way.

  • @xmanrules2001 YOU STUPID FUCK! matt hughes can beat black belt in jiu jitsu because he trains with black belts in jiu jitsu and respects the technique and its advantage. Pedro would tap yur bitch ass just like that good for NOTHING muscle man!!!! BJJ ALL DAY PUNKK

  • @DrDeeAye Hey Dr. Dee that;s exactly what I said. You must not read or write english too well or else you wouldv'e understood that . Rickson Gracie was my instructor once.

  • @xmanrules2001 You trained with Rickson??

  • @xmanrules2001 Ment that at RealPsycho4. sorry xman, ReallyGayPsycho4 i mean lol

  • @DrDeeAye LOL No problem. Your comment really threw me off! Hahah and yes I trained with Rickson out of his West LA studios, but my original instrucotor was Royce so you could say Im an OG=Original Gracie or Orginal Gracie student.

  • @xmanrules2001 haha. ya i just replied wrong. no way!!!! i train with Megaton Dias. hes Roylers student. Wish i could meet royce or rickson. lol true that OGGGG lol

  • @RealPsycho4 that made me laugh out loud

  • did he get the armlock it look like he did anyone know

  • Jiu Jitsu!

  • who is this man who went out with pedro around 1:12? he looks so familiar.. but I cant remember the name, anybody?

  • @Arrud maybe Rickson Gracie?

  • @sharp87 I thought it was Kazeka Muniz

  • i wamt to fight like pedro sauer

  • All respect to pedro sauer!!!

  • he was no mr utah. lance batchelor is a fucking loser. anytime anywhere lance I hope you read this. Remeber when you trained with fat mike and I spared with you you fucking suck I beat your ass and Im just a regular guy from ogden. Come and find me lance and we will settle this once and for all. You know who I am come and find me and bring your bitch ass friend Kelly I want to slap his ass too!

  • @buzzv1 you do know this video is over 6 years old right.

  • @Wasteoftime25 yes I know it is so whats your point?

  • @buzzv1 you do know this video is over 5 years old right.

  • LOL AT THIS BODY BUILDER FOOL

  • @ph33ric you should see Pedro now man, he's a fucking BEAST. My coach is absolutely amazing at BJJ, way ahead of his current "belt level" and pedro tosses him around like a child, it's quite a site really.

  • Pedro has visited my MMA gym several times, i'm HOPING to be ready to take my blue belt test when he comes back around this november. He's quite an impossing figure to be around, almost like he has an aura of "don't fuck with me" surrounding him. He's truely an inspiration :)

  • @bloodriotiori agree I met him here is Australia, he is not tall as I though he would be. He is 1.70 mt max but his knowledge impressive in deed

  • Being 130 pounds with limited athletic talent, im going to say this.... Power is a technique too ;)

  • Sauer is good on his feet too. Total domination all the way.

  • it looked like the BBer got alot hits and was winning lost prolly only because doesnt know how to fight u cant beat a jiu jitsu fighter on the ground

  • @maze6909 the bodybuilder was hit twice in the face and took several peppering kicks to the shin before being taken down, he was pretty much controlled until he was fianlly able to posture up and land two hard shots while eating one from the bottom which made his nose start bleeding...and then was tapped out...hardly winning at all.

  • BJJ > Show muscles

  • Glad you put this up Professor Sauer is no joke and I encourage anyone that trains in BJJ to visit him as well as Rickson Gracie.

  • No matter what art you do. What style or what the main focuses of that style are, technique > physical strength.

  • @MultiRealityman LOL - you mean after he tapped and was belly-down and the elbow snapped? If you were there, you missed what the rest of us saw. KBER instigated this thing in the first place, and I certainly don't care what two teenage disc jockeys have to say about it. Lance is just lucky Professor is a nice guy.

  • looked like the bodybuilder won the film was cut looked like they ended the fight when he was fine

  • @striken555 That was a typical submission ending. The bodybuilder taps out and the jiu jitsu guy is applauded.

  • I know that Bodybuilder. His name is Lance Batchelor and he’s a research scientist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. It’s ironic that they call Pedro, “professor” when it’s the Bodybuilder that has the advanced degree.

  • @technoman316 No disrespect to either man, but as far as the art of jiu jitsu goes Pedro Sauer has more than a doctorate.

  • @technoman316 Professor Sauer also has a graduate degree, and nearly 40 years of study day in and day out counts for much more than ANY phd I've known - no one who knows him and his history will question the use of the title Professor - period

  • I was at this fight, caught up in the Gracie hysteria of UFC1 and 2. The video has been cut where Pedro tried to put the arm bar on the big man. What happened was the bodybuilder pulled his arm free and just smirked at Pedro. Pedro’s man stopped the fight to save him further humiliation. The part where Pedro was lifted away was his people in denial that their hero just got whipped. Pedro was declared the LOOSER of this fight. Go get the old play by play from KBER radio if you don’t believe me.

  • @MultiRealityman I'm not saying you're lying...but the way professor has that thing locked in, and flips him..it would be damn hard for him to pull his arm out.

  • No way the bodybuilder weighs 250...He's too short to way 250. I think they inflated his weight for hype. The BB didn't do that bad.

  • movies make fighting so much better :)

  • Great video - horrible music

  • @DickBeeter Are we watching the same fight? Professor was tagging this guy at will. Professor is indeed a legend, he also happens to be one of my instructors.

  • @DickBeeter pedro sauer is not a faggot he is a legend

  • @DickBeeter But he still lost...

  • @sad18240 your a retard he hyper extend his arm. if you don't belive me watch the mr.utah fight interview

  • Winner by arm bar?

  • @DickBeeter Sauer and Mr. Utah train for different types of strength. Mr. Utah trains for Sport-Specific strength and probably uses/used steroids (don't kid yourself, most bodybuilders do). Pedro trains for Functional strength in a sport role. There is quite the dif

  • @BePrime im interested to know how you calculated his weight. do you work at the carnival?

  • I missed it, what happened? Did he tap from the arm bar then try to keep fighting?

Little known fact: Body builders are nearly useless outside the gym. No range of motion, no endurance, little functional strength (Mr. Utah probably couldn't do 10 pull-ups) This moron let his size lead him to believe he knew how to fight.

  • Cut the retarded music, asshole!

  • lol since when did body building equate to fighting skills? You didn't need to do anything but kick Mr. Utah to death

  • @jamespohh alot of people think lifting weights teaches them to fight. their biceps get bigger and all of a sudden they thing they are a ufc champion. alot of them would also get gassed in 2 seconds cause they never do conditioning cause its too much work theyd rather just lift and go get drunk

  • @timstramadal I've seen that in a Muay Thai match. Huge dude, ripped as hell stepped into the ring. Looked intimidating too. Within several minutes he could not continue because he was so gassed out. Probably the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen. All muscle and useless.

  • Sensi sauer is a true beast. He is consideredd a part of the Gracie family for a reason...

  • Pedro is one of the only JJ practitioners to have my full respect...

  • @SlugDropsonheads Like it matter who you respect or who you don't, you insignificant dog.

  • @Svittidiu Like it matter what you think, you faggot ass bitch made prick loving two inch dick having faggot

  • mr utah may be strong, but he has some of the worst range of motion i have ever seen.. whats the point of being strong if your muscles are more like a straight jacket?

  • @nirvana2465 Well body builders usually do just that. Try put on jackets of muscle without adapting their limbs, joints or flexibility to the new body. When i roll i MUCH prefer the really big guys that have done their glamor muscles. They may look good but you can fold them like pancakes and choke them way too easily.

  • @nirvana2465 Well an untrained 250 pounder vs Mr Utah, Mr Utah would always win....but Mr UTah vs Jiujitsu, Jiujitsu always win :D

  • @nirvana2465 to look good on stage? he's a bodybuilder

  • @Combat52 try hitting someone in the head WITHOUT hand wraps and a gloves on. Your hand doesnt hold up well to that. Try escaping a jiujitsu guy with clothes on and without being sweaty. MMA is a sport. Bring back vale tudo.

  • I thought at first Pedro was going to kick his bodybuilder knee until it snapped.

  • Dumbass, taking down Pedro was the worst mistake. Good video, gay music.

  • What a stupid song.

  • @Combat52 eddie bravo was the first american to do well at BJJ? Shows how ignorant you are. Does the name BJ Penn ring a bell? I hardly follow grappling but come on man.

Eddie Bravo got one good win about 7 years ago which he's still living off... BJ penn won the mundials at the black belt category in 2000 with about 4 years of training under his belt.

  • @what1ever2guy3 He had 3 years and I agree with u about this guys post.

  • Did the big guy get even one hit on Pedro?

  • wow, nice fight. stupid muscle man beaten by pure technique :)

  • I was there... As a little kid sitting in the very front row on the floor... That was an awesome day... I also remember when Pedro hung his GI in the gym with all of Mr. Utah's blood soaked on it lol.

  • Pedro is friggin' seamless, man. The guy was/is amazing as both a martial artist and probably one of the most down-to-Earth guys you'll meet. I got my belts in BJJ from him and he's a hell of a nice guy.

  • got my blue belt under pedro =)

  • E P I C

  • thats what u get for talking smack about a true legend

  • people just dont understand jujitsu hahah only if they knew that strength and weight werent the only way to fight i dont care who you are go get the best street fighter you know and put him up aginst a person with like 20 classes or more. jujitsu is crazy thing once your on the ground with the guy its over.

  • Pedro is a jiu jitsu God. Go back to pumping yourself Mr. Weightlifter. lol.

  • @ph33ric sucked? wtf are you talking about? this is no gloves...no stupid rounds..this is just no frills or octagon girls.. this is bjj to the core...even bjj today would not look much diffrent in this scenario.. don't let stupidity blind you

  • @oddjobjujitsu seconded. this was true vale tudo. no rounds, no time limit, no weight classes. people think UFC started it all.... helio and kimura fought for 45 minutes and santana for 3 hours and 42 minutes!

most of these people only know what they watch on a screen, nothing else.

sauer is renowned for precise technique. his picture perfect armbar from the guard is the same thing you'd learn today....if your instructor even knows half the details to the technique.

  • @jbgandhi2

I think Helo and Kimura only fought for about 12 minutes, give or take.

  • @B0l0joe no, sorry. you are right, it was about 13 minutes and kimura broke gracies arm but gracie still wouldn't quit.

  • @jbgandhi2 Right because street fights that last nearly 4 hours are realistic.

  • @Combat52 shouldnt you be training in your make believe mma gym with you friends and shut up. Most of you guys can be summed up in that 1.) your school has mma in the name of it 2.) you are against training in Gis 3.) you wear knee braces 4.) you consider grappling "working out" 5.) you consider weightlifting as "training" 6.) you compete in a mma competition so now you "teach" 7.) you have tatoos 8.) your ears are knawled up and have trained less than 2 years 9.) you like Eddio Bravo
  • @keepbjjsimple Wow congrats for going through all the comments to find my post from over a month ago. Never mind that your statement has nothing to do with my comment but I'll answer your bullshit anyways, just for kicks.

    1) I used to train MMA but I'm going to school now and I don't have time for both engineering and MMA. My gym did not have MMA in the title, sorry.

    2) Yes and no. For MMA they're pretty useless since you don't wear them when you fight. If you're a BJJ fag then yea go for it.

  • @Combat52

    2) when do you ever wear protective wrap on your hands and no shirt when you fight? Of course this is where you say that you wear them when you get in a fight in the shower or on the beach. And i reply that it makes alot of sense to simulate conditions that you are in .01% of your life. A gi is a training tool just like flipping a tractor tire or climbing a rope is. its hard to move in a gi. That is one of many reasons why a mma guy or no gi guy cant fight a guy in a gi well.

  • Reppin Pedro Sauer Pensacola,FL!

  • Pedro is a badass.

  • We're fortunate to have had Pedro Sauer in this state.

  • get raped go pedro

  • @1sephiroth8 underestimate bjj and be prepared to lose

  • The same can be said for pretty much any style.

  • yep. i do bjj but would love to learn as much from every style as possible

  • This was great. It was a trip to see the stand up at the beginning. Neither guy has any idea how to strike. Obviously Pedro has phenomel grappling.

I don't understand why Mr. Utah would take this fight knowing nothing about any aspect of the fight game. He's a fool for tackling Pedro, knowing fully that his entire game is on the ground.

  • Pure ignorance, our knowledge wasn't so widely shared back then as it is now. I'm guessing he would have heard there was something called bjj and that they grapple, but knowing he had a 100lbs weight advantage I doubt it fit into his reality anyone smaller than him could submit him.

  • Pedro Sauer, one of the best.

  • Much respect to Pedro Sauer

  • you start throwing punches to a bjj fighter whilst in his guard you gonna get caught in an armbar....

  • yeah, obviously the bodybuilder didnt know how to posture up or do wrist or arm control. or any of that important shit.

  • Great old fight!!! i am a Pedro Affilaite myself. Thank you Professor for continuing to give the gift of Helio Gracie's Jiu JItsu and Happy Birthday!!!

  • Now days, I think that you have to know everything to compete in MMA, but w/o a doubt BJJ has dominated and is required for anyone that wants to compete. A 150lb skinny guy beats a 250 lb monster. Impressive fighting style!

  • too bad top strikers have gotten used to bjj assaults. You rarely see top-KO artists in the ufc take fight to the ground. Not to mention submission in mma is rare now since sweat makes everything so slippery. But yeah, still a must-learn if u're gonna compete in mma.

  • this is so incorrect I can't even begin to comprehend it. What makes you think the BJJ guy can't also result to dirty tactics any time he wishes? Why are these arguments always under the thinking that non-BJJ guy can result to dirty tactics to win, but that thought would never occur to the BJJ guy?

  • cause you were dreaming

  • Probably because they take Tae Kwon Do

  • Lolll black belts in what? I tell you what, go to a bjj gym and challenge just a blue belt, or better yet, challenge a white belt and see how you go, you'll get hammered.

  • getting blackbelts and shit is one form out of thousands of ways to fight. All the karate, tae kwon do, and anything else just gives your limbs more purpose, your mind a better edge, and you're trained to react better in a fight. This makes you better than the average untrained person, but it doesn't mean there aren't people out there, untrained, who can't beat you. Underestimate your opponent and you're asking to lose.

  • A great part of most martial arts is respect, both for yourself and your opponent. So while I agree with you, I think it's probably unlikely to happen. And the Gracies knew there would be a technique to counter everything. That's why BJJ is still growing today, the Pedro Sauer assocation schools are different than Gracie Humaita and Gracie Barra which are different than Renzo Gracie schools, which are different than Eddie Bravo's Tenth Planet system etc.

  • proffesor looks the same today as he did then

  • damn. pedro got blood all over his shirt after the fight

  • 3:48 amazing block

  • Ive trained under Pedro for 8 yrs. Great person, and friend. Ive since moved form UT to Miami. His teachings have kept me safe many a night. Thank you my friend.

  • man, i wonder how old pedro was in this video.

  • atleast 34.

based on birthday, (October 5, 1958)

  • wow. so he was 34 in the video? and probably around his 50's currently?

  • Yep, Master Pedro is around 50 now. Born October 5, 1958.

  • damn, i mean this man has showed how effective bjj is, and question, do you train at a affliated gym of pedro sauer or something man?

  • I was one of Pedro's students back then.

I talked to Pedro about the fight afterwards.

He wasn't quite sure how strong the guy was at first so he played a more defensive game. There was to be a re-match but Lance backed out. He was contronted about it and apologized for what he said. He did train with Pedro later for a short time. White belts and blue belts beat him easily. Pedro is a top notch Jiu-jitsu instructor. He'll give you the shirt off his back.

  • how come it took so long for him to sweep him

i hand it to the big bodybuilder for lasting that long

  • the 100lb differentual makes it a little tough to sweep at first... Obviously the BJJ guy was half as strong but BJJ techniqeu always wins... in Time he took arm and it was over...

  • Mr. Sauer is my teacher! He is such a nice and genuine person. Killer skills...

  • Mr Utah "Um duh what dus happen me den?"

Pedro toyed with him the whole time. Pedro let Utah take him to the ground after Utah realised he could not even beat Pedro in stand up! Pedro let him tire himself out on the ground (Utah never got any good position to strike from). I think Pedro must have got bored and gone for the arm-bar :-). Amazing stuff.

  • mr utah looked tired as fuck, pedro worked his ass lol

  • fala dro pe! god this video is horrible u should see my uncle in person, hes incredible

  • Weight lifting is not a fighting style. I could tell by his reaction to those leg kicks right away he didn't know wtf he was doing.

  • PEDRO = BADASS. I wonder why I don't see or hear more about him and his association? I don't see to many of his fighters competing (not that that makes oyu a good teacher/fighter) but that's all we have to go on generally. Alliance, Barra, Renzo and the traditional 1 or two others always at the top but no Pedro reps from his schools? Know why?

    Great video though.

  • Jeff Curran, Wec!! Recently fought Uriah Faber and Mike Brown.

  • Im under him. Primal fighting systems, we compete very often.

  • Old-school!

I can see enough of Old-school BJJ/vale tudo fights.

  • I am currently training under him in BJJ at Gordon Mix martial arts. Amazing instructor.

  • Unfortunately, most of you will never know how amazing Pedro is. After he hurt his shoulder he hardly trains anymore, but let me tell you, he is an absolute nightmare on the mat. I'd say only a handful of people move the way he does; the other four would have the last name Gracie.

  • @sendergreen Or the last name Machado.

  • I've been a student of Jiu Jitsu for almost two years now under a very good, well respected Black Belt, but two months ago I started dividing my time training twice a week with my regular instructor and twice a week with Prof. Sauer. Just in two months my technical game has increased by probably 30%!! Now my regular instructor trains under him with me! Point is.. Pedro's tactical Jiu Jitsu knowledge is nothing short of genius!! If you're not close enough to train with him, buy the DVD's.

  • I never get tired of seeing this video. Good job Mr. Sauer! I imagine that the ego of "Lance" didn't allow him to realize what had just happened and that he should possibly try to study ground fighting. Not certain, but just a guess.

  • I'll have to meet this guy, my instructor and a few of my peers have told me some impressive things about this guy. Should get the chance to him in a month or so, I missed the last seminar he held, and they told me too, felt so dumb that it didn't register with me.

  • He's supposed to be one of the most, if not THE, MOST technical instructor on the planet.. with attention to detail that most could not fathom!

  • I recieved my blue belt today from professor Sauer.

Real nice guy....real classy and a pleasure to talk with.

  • I hear the guy is something else on the mat though.

  • Yeah, he is unbelievable. Perfect technician

  • great fight. shitty video. anyone know where i can find this without the shitty picture, shitty music, and slo-mo replays?

  • pedro IS a legend... he has the largest jiujitsu association in the world (80-some schools i think)

  • Ever heard of Gracie Barra?

  • lol gotta back NOCDIB up. I'm pretty sure Gracie-Barra is the biggest. but Pedro is definitely a legend in the BJJ sphere, no doubt!

  • Pedro is the MAN

Much love and respect for him !

  • Mr. Muscleswing got pwnd!

  • Mr. Muscleswing got pwnd!

  • Proof that muscle don't mean shit in a fight

  • obviously man, it's all about technique

  • No...just proof that Pedro is a better fighter. What happens if you put someone in the ring w/ him the same size as Mr Utah but who also possesses the same skills as Pedro? Trouble for Pedro, that's what. Size DOES matter so long as it hasn't been given precedence over skill.

  • say what?? lol

  • On paper you do make sense. Truth is you could never get as good as Pedro as he spent his entire life on the mat and have the time to build your muscles like Utah. Pedro is possibly the purest ground technician on the planet.

  • pedro is a true legend

  • 1985 Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Helio and Rickson Gracie

1986 Tecnico de Jiu-Jitsu. Given in recognition of superior technical mastery of the art of jiujitsu, given by Helio Gracie.

1990 Certified Black Belt Instructor by Robson Gracie and the Federacao de Jiu-Jitsu

    Black Belt Judo

1993 3rd Degree Black Belt from Rorion Gracie

    1996 Level 6 Instructor Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy

2000 5th Degree Black Belt under the Federacao de Jiu-Jitsu

    2003 6th Degree Black Belt

  • ...don't forget 2008 7th Degree Red/Black Belt under Rickson Gracie!!!!

  • dude i just took a class under pedro and he is great

  • ignorance makes you look like an idiot. How many ppl out there has a red/black belt in BJJ?

  • I believe the answer to your question is 10 on the entire planet.

  • just goes to prove the greatest muscle anyone has is their brain!
