  • WOW! I was a little kid back then and I had a blast! Thank you for the awesome memorys do you still live in FL. Any body remember the little girl who was bit by the rattle snake.

  • A most awesome video and GREAT music to go along with the fantastic memories. The great thing about Pirates World was there was not even the pretense of safety! Plastic horses so slick no one could stay on for long. Nuts, rust and bolts sprinkling the ground when the roller coaster passed overhead.

    Good times. Good times.

Broken, usually missing, safety belts. Sharp rusty pointy bits to snag & skewer the unwary. Good times. Good times.

  • I remember Pirates World growing up as a kid in FLA me and my brother went there a lot good memories

  • AVGN ;/

  • yes, the roller coaster was called The Mouse Trap

  • Thanks for the video! This really brings back memories, it was such a magical place for me and my friends back in the late 60's. We didn't have Disney World back then.

  • @chart427 youre welcome...yes this was before disneyworld. We loved going there in the summer...

  • @chart427 Nice 【ツ】

  • thumbs up if a comment on cinemassacre dint brought you here!

  • @sadiel1 i thumbd youd bcuse cinemasscre dint brot me hear!

  • Thumbs up if a comment on Cinemassacre brought you here!

  • @Svartben98 Of course

  • it was just like the wonder years!

  • I feel like I just watched an episode of "The Wonder Years."

  • @jasonjlaw haha you got it!

  • I recall a larger wooden coaster near the mouse one called the wild cat~

  • Also at Pirate's World was the "Grand National Steeplechase", which was originally from Coney Island,[3] along with a Wild Mouse roller coaster, a log flume (also bought second-hand from the New York World Fair), "various carnival flat rides including a paratrooper, a sky ride, some carny games, a skee-ball arcade, (and) spiral slides".[2]

  • @andysott I remember the spiral slides there was a portion of them that was dark and there would always be a kid jamming the slide in the middle of it. Those were great times. Thanks for posting !

  • OK, heres wikipedias info~Pirate's World was an 100-acre (0.40 km2) pirate-themed amusement park in Dania, Florida that opened in 1967.[1] Developed by Recreation Corporation of America, it was located on the north side of Sheridan Street, east of US 1.

The park featured "The Crows Nest" observation tower, which had originally "been the Belgian Aerial Tower at the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair".[2]

  • I still have a ticket for that place=)50

  • @inupyours1 how cool that is, you should scan it and post it~

  • @inupyours1 cool!!

  • I saw Alice Cooper and Flo and Eddie at Pirates World...

  • the place scared me too... i grew up in miami beach and my grandfather took me there twice sometime between 70 and 73. it was a lot of fun as well

  • looks pretty fun,the smallest amusement parks are often the most fun.

  • Did you run into the ice cream bunny while you were there?

  • Pirates World was the ultimate amusement park....As I recall, you paid one admission price and you were in for the day...A great assortment of memorable rides...Particularly the Mouse Trap roller coaster....That rickety ride always made my heart race!...and the Steeplechase was not for the faint hearted either....Boy , do I miss that place!

  • @backdraft4750 the coaster you are referring to was one of the first rides you could go on immediately after paying your admission. it was rather scary cuz when you reached the top it would make it's turns abruptly and you felt like you were close to being overturned and about to plummet to your death. it wasn't the mouse trap (you are thinking of a milton bradley board game i think!), it was the "wild mouse" if i remember correctly.

  • @grizzliegator ...Great memory...You're right...The "mouse" roller coaster was one of the first rides you saw upon entering....and yeah, those first few turns on top were unreal.....You truly felt like you were going over!....and no seat belts either....My all time favorite ride.

  • @grizzliegator

I wonder if other amusement parks had a "wild mouse" rollercoaster. When I was a kid, I went to a huge fair in Washington State (I think it was the Puyallap Fair), and it had the Wild Mouse. I went on it and yeah, I thought I was gonna go over the edge multiple times. It wasn't fast, but it was scary as hell, because of the insecure feeling. This was back in the mid 80's. Could the Wild Mouse have found a new home from PW to Puyallap across the US? Makes me wonder.

  • @SpryPersonalVids a lot of the rides at pirates world came from a worlds fair, ( maybe chicago?) so it may have had sister versions of those rides. I know the crows nest was part of a worlds fair and the steeplechase was originally in New York, maybe coney island~

  • @grizzliegator Not to split hairs but after further checking I found out that roller coaster was indeed called The Mouse Trap.....And yes, it was also a Milton-Bradley game which I had as a kid.

  • @backdraft4750 are we on jeopardy, backdraft4750? i would like to know what resources you used for your fact checking.

after calling a few of my school chums we agreed it was the MB game that was called "mouse trap" (similar to the game "operation"), but the actual rollercoaster ride was the wild mouse. not to be confused with the marlon brando movie "the wild one" which is one of my favorite movies of all time. ; )

  • @grizzliegator I guess it all depends where you look....Many sites on Facebook and Google refer to it as the Mouse Trap....That is how I always remembered it too....But other sites do refer to it as the Wild Mouse....Let's just call it a draw!

  • "Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny" was filmed here!

I wish I could've gone here, but I was born in 1974 and way over on the Gulf Coast of Florida. :(

  • I saw the rock group "Spirit" at Pirates World. Great memories. Thanks for posting.

  • I also loved the (what we called) the "round slides"- once I got over being scared of them, anyway! What a fun place that was. Too bad it didn't last; it would have been South Florida's great amusement park by now.

Anyone else remember Funland which was on 79th Street?

  • I'm 49 and I used to love Pirates World! I was scared of all the coasters at first but gradually, one by one, I got on all of them. I loved the steeplechase and that was one of the rides I would ride right away. It did have a bar to hold onto but not much else. The one at PW (originally at Steeplechase Park in Coney Island) had horses that straddled the track but the one in the UK has horses that are on a pedestal so actually ride above the track (way more scary that way).

  • Went to see Grand Funk Railroad, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and many others. Tickets were $5, could enter at 5 pm, ride rides, then go to the pavilion at 8 pm to rock out. Reeked with reefer! Excellent and great memories!

To this day, my high school girlfriend and I remember.

  • i grew up in south florida and in the early 70's while in high school we went to the amusement park often but also for the live concerts. i saw bb king, alice cooper,

the rascals, and some bands i cannot remember offhand (i wonder why...). thanks

for this wonderful walk down memory lane.

  • I saw my first concert there in 1971 when I was 15 with The Chambers Brothers.

  • I use to skateboard there when I was a kid, growing up in Dania. We took our boards there, after it was closed & skated the whole park! It was 1 when it closed.

  • i went there to see batman and robin, turned out that it was the same day as a joe cocker concert.I still can remember my father saying f*****g hippies all day

  • I remember clearly, remember the freaky house that was all out of whack. The doors where smaller the windows crooked etc. made you feel like a giant. Very cool place I always went. jb

  • Thanks for posting that vid Andy, it sure brought back memories of all the times I visited PW and all the concerts, my younger brother Reggie worked there.

The first time I saw BB King was there, then the time the cops sprayed mace on the people that just wanted to hear the music and started a riot !

  • @rickbeam dude! i was there that night too. fantastic!

  • Thanks for the memories...I used to love that place!

  • I have pics of myself at frontiier village, at boot hill and near the tee pees...

  • anyone remember Frontier Village (west of Pirates World)?

  • log flume, wild cat, the mouse, steeple chase, crooked house, monkey Island (the monkeys still live in the area) I'm 48

but remember it well, even the mean ass high schoolers who they hired to play pirates

  • @bozozoo I'm 48 also and still live here. My dad took me to Pirates World many times, still have nightmares about the Mouse rollercoaster and the Steeple Chase, surprised nobody got killed on those things.

    Good Times!!!

About 6 months ago I was driving down Dania Bch Blvd. at about 7AM and sitting/standing in the middle of the road were two large Makak monkeys, I thought I was seeing things. There definitely still there.

  • Thanks for the memories. That and Trails End were great places to go back then. Our kids will never have as much fun as we did back then.

  • I hear ya! Try 56!!!!!

I saw the Who there...on a Friday night...DATE NIGHT it was called. Of course went to a Royal Castle afterwards or sometimes Jaxsons Ice Cream.

Broward was a cool place in the late 1960's early 1970's!

  • My best friend dated Tommy Judge the DJ for his fathers radio station, WSRF-WSHE and we got so many free tickets and back stage passes to name a few.bands, Johnny Winter Edger Winter Jeff Beck Led Zeppelin (Twice) Canned Heat Grand Funk Railroad and a lot more. Those where fun times at Pirates World and I think we even saw a rodeo there. God I hate being 55 years old, IT SUCKS.
  • @RoyalArse1964 i am almost 55 (oct 30 is comin' up fast) - but don't be sad, it's all about the memories and having a good quality of life in the present.

  • the steeple chase came from coney island.urban myth was a rattle snake bit someone at pirates world

  • I have Googled and searched YouTube for a pic or vid of the steeplechase

there's one in the UK now

[Steeplechase Roller Coaster Blackpool Pleasure Beach England]

that I can use as an example, but it's not the same as PIRATES WORLD !!!

Lived in Miami and this was THE place to go back then.

  • I can't believe you didnt get the Steeplechase :-(

  • The Steeplechase was scary with nothing to hold onto, but nothing like the Wild Mouse. We would get high in the Skyride before heading over there. The coaster was on some sort of pivot. After the last drop, the wheels would turn to the left but the body would continue straight for a second before turning. It felt as if you were being launched into space. Great concerts!

  • I remember the steeplechase well, and in retrospect, realize now how dangerous these attractions actually were. Times have changed! Lived in Philly but drove to Ft. Lauderdale each year for family vacation. Pirates World rocked!

  • My late grandfather was the Mayor of Dania when this place opened. They got VIP passes to go there before it was officially opened up to the public and they gave them to me and a friend of mine. It was awesome. I lived about a mile away. I could hear the concerts at night in my backyard. I was there almost every weekend and attended many rockin' concerts, including the last one ever being Steely Dan and Chicago.

  • yes, before disney world PIRATESworld was the coolest place for a kid is south fla., thanks for sharing your story....you were one lucky kid!!

  • I have a longer version somewhere that I will find and post.

  • how i loved this place as a child! Thx for posting! Now i have to find video of the steeple chase!

  • Does anyone remember the slant house in this park? I thought it had a ghost figure on the roof of it, but I'm not sure..if anyone does, leave a message.

  • sure I remember the slanted house...but dont recall a ghost figure on the roof.

  • it used to make me sick

  • I was 12 in 1972 and lived in Miramar. I went to Pirates World and remember the Slide that they gave you a sack to slide on. Also remember Alice Cooper playing there. A great place to go...

  • Pirates World....great memories in 72. Came down to Florida from NY stayed at the Glen Dory Apts....Thanks for sharing!

  • my pleasure!

  • I remember Pirates World as a 12 yr, it was the best!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I was 10 years old here in '72...this was before disneyworld opened.....other than the seaquarium, it was the coolest place for a kid to go...

  • @rebleny Andy....thanks for posting the video...hey it's 3 years later but thanks, better late than never.

  • My brother Jim and I rode the Steeplechase together.Me up front holding the "reigns" and him behind me holding on to me for all he was worth and screaming on the top of his lungs. We're both pushing 50 now and STILL talk about that ride around our young'uns!!! That was one dangerous ride but I'd do it again in a second to see if I could get the same rush I got as a 14 year old!

  • I only wish I had footage of that dangerous ride that was once on coney Island. Im now 46 and I was 11 when I went to PW.

  • OMG me TOO, i was with my cousin on my tenth bday, and i thought that was the end of me! LOL too much fun! would do it again in a hearbeat!

  • Thanks so much for this blast from the past! I was in high school in North Miami Beach at the time. Saw David Bowie, Ten Year's After, Humble Pie, Fleetwood Mac, Richie Havens, Country Joe and the Fish, Deep Purple, and so many more at Pirate's World. Also went to the Sportatorium for shows. Thanks again for this treat! Jan

  • 72 was a great year in my life...loved Pirates World! Even the song by 3 Dog Night is from 1972!

  • Pirates World was like nothing else before it in S. Florida. I have fond memories of going there. As a teen, I saw several concerts, the first being the Rascals, and the Allman Brothers, Sweetwater, Rare Earth/with Blues Image who blew Rare Earth out of the park, so to speak, etc. It was fun for the times.

  • Thanks so much for this. I saw Led Zepplin's first tour there...wow...what memories. Even had an affair there :)

  • Damn I was at that concert too.Sat about 15-20 ft in front of Page.He ROCKED!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video. Brought back many memories of yesteryear. The Mouse, the slanted house, and of course those "dangerous" dark slides. This park was underrated.

  • I loved that place! Do you remember the Steeplechase?

  • yes, the steeplechase was the most dangerous amusement park ride Ive ever been on. there was nothing to hold you on. I think it was closed a lot of the time.

  • Haha, it was looking back. It was originally a long time attraction at Coney Island. I was young when I rode it and loved it.

  • really? it came from coney Island? I remember at Pirates world the rumor was that a girl was bitten by a rattlesnake that was inside one of the "horses" that sat on a track and seemd to slide down a slope, I remember there being bushes all along that ride that were overgrown, so you could believe that a snake got in there!! weird how I remember that stuff 35 years later!

  • I remember the snake bite , that was when they shut down that ride.

  • wow how i wished i went to pirates world when i was kid i saw the commercial constantly thanks for sharing

  • This was way before my time but I'm 2nd Generation Hollywood I'm sure both my mom and dad ended up at this place a time or two.. wish it was still around, my memories consist of Six Flags Atlantis... I'd give back Oakwood plaza in a heart beat...

  • thanks for posting this i was so sad when it closed down. i was born in hollywood in 1961. great memories revisited

  • yeah so many cool attractions from the 60s-70s are gone....pirates world, Six Gun Territory, Circus world, the Biscayne Kennal Club, Trails End teen disco, Skateland USA, Tropical roller rink, Hialeah Roller Rink, Kings Pony Farm......the list is soooo long...well we have the memories at least.

  • yeah I remember al those places...also remember the Polar Palace Ice Skating rink, and Hialeah Speedway (my sister used to take me there nevery saturday night inn the early 70s), remember old Crandon Zoo, there used to be an outdoor skating rink there...ohhh also Opa Locka had an outdoor skating rink too...yeah good memories

  • Comment removed

  • your comments about the steeplchase are 100% accurate-I still cringe, 39 years later, just thinking about this ride-it would be shut down in about 2 minutes in today's regulated world. I wonder if rides were like this 100 years or so ago- check out lostparks on the web- flordia's lost tourist attractions- you might find it interesting. thanks

  • thanks for sharing that-I had a lot of good memories there--HOWEVER- Pirate's World was in Dania,Fl- about

10 miles up the road from the FIU Interama campus in North Miami Beach- I grew up in NMB and there was NOTHING in Interama in 1972-Interama has a whole interesting history-it was a financial debacle for North Miami and many others-the site lay vacant for many years because no plans could get off the ground.

  • you are right, thanks for the correction

  • Wow - great memories. I loved the log flume. And I remember being squished by my sister on the Himalaya. The place closed down when I was in high school and I think they put condos on the property.

  • as I recall the steeplehase was the scariest ride because you sat on the horse like on a merry go round with no straps or bars to hold you on, and that thing would fly down a track on a decline. I went with my freind scott and they put us both on the same horse and let me tell you...we were barely able to hang on...there was a rumor that a kid had been bitten by a rattlesnake that was insideone of the horses as the tracks were over an over grown brush area.....ah the memories

  • not only that, remember the slanted room??, the pirates ship and the mousetrap?? ahhh memories....

  • wow! this clip really brings back great childhood memories...remember the wild cat and the steeplchase and the crows nest...never thought I would see a clip of Pirates world...thx for sharing! william Miami
