It's sad that by this point so many of the lyrics are nothing but meaningless names to most people my age. A class could go an entire semester just listening to this song and looking the stuff and come out with a much more comprehensive grasp on modern history than 99% of their peers. If I ever become a history teacher I'm totally doing that.
See how it turns from 1950's all beatiful n all then in the 1980's it's all fucked up like chinas martial law, korea, terrorists, jfk dead, john lenon killed.. WOW
@dooku111 It's a drug. It was given to women in the 50s to ease morning sickness. Tragically, it also caused horrible birth defects. Thousands of children were affected worldwide.
--Okay- pull this song apart-- beetles mentioned- john was killed- by guy who read catcher in the rye- children of thalidomide - thalidomide was written by plath a poem- rosenbergs in first for paragraphs in Bell Jar-- the guy from Psycho had aids.. hypodermics on the shore- were infected with aids.. this song un-ravels itself.. you just dont know where to look...
Charles Raymond Starkweather (November 24, 1938 – June 25, 1959)[1] was an American teenaged spree killer[2] who murdered eleven people in Nebraska and Wyoming during a two-month road trip with his 14-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate. The couple was captured on January 29, 1958. Starkweather was executed seventeen months later, while Fugate served 17 years in prison
@kacplaymyst What I find interesting is I'm sure this was a VERY newsworthy item in its day and of course all serial killers, all massacres, etc., find their places in history but if I were to ask anybody today about the Starkweather massacre, they'd all scratch their heads on that one I'm sure. Why isn't this one more well remembered?
Outstanding.
